We might have a great idea soon, @javiervazquez7122. If the team signs another affordable yet talented player, it's highly likely that they will trade their first pick. If their intention was to draft Caleb, they wouldn't be so cautious with their spending. Instead, they would be going after a big-name free agent.

@@Nobody-su9kmIn the case of Russell Wilson, he wasn’t intended to start his rookie year. The Seahawks just signed Matt Flynn to a starting contract. Wilson was simply better and won the job. I think that illustrates the point, the plan shouldn’t be for rookies to start, they should start when they show you they are ready. Teams would be better off planning for a year of development even if they start earlier, and not assume they are ready week 1.

In the "experienced 25 year old QB" vs "rookie 23-24 year old QB" debate, I think the thing working against Fields is we don't have any idea how QBs like Michael Penix or Bo Nix will translate in the NFL. It's all potential and hypotheticals and upside. Fields has been a starter for 3 years now, you have a good idea what you're getting, and what you're getting is not great rn.

You have a point. Teams would rather give up 2 first round picks, 2 second round picks and DJ Moore to draft Bryce young because of his “upside” which is basically thinking because he hasn’t been drafted yet he’s going to be something he isn’t Justin is a good quarterback that has mostly been put in a very terrible position, but most of the NFL media isn’t really educated on there or realizes that a situation can actually make a quarterback better
@LordPichuPal
@LordPichuPal 5 ай бұрын
Generally speaking you're spending less to get a rookie QB to develop behind someone seasoned, too. The Bears probably want too much for Fields because of overhyping how good he is, not realizing it's scaring off any potential suitors because they aren't desperate to get him and see how badly Chicago wants to move on. It's a major loss for Chicago because nobody will take him off their hands, they've already burned the bridge with him so he won't give them full effort, and if they keep him and draft Williams, you've created tons of drama in the locker room and city until you get rid of one of them.

He can't make reads. You can time his thinking in the pocket with an hourglass. Fields does what he does because he can't figure things out quick enough to do what he's supposed to do. But it's fun to watch him run, so Yeehaw! One of the great things about football is you can have a low two-digit IQ and think you understand it. That's also one of the worst things.
@Kaigiro
@Kaigiro 5 ай бұрын
@@charlesfaure1189 couldn’t agree more. I made a collection of advanced stats and it’s actually insane just how much harder he makes it on himself. He literally has the highest time in the pocket in the league at 2.8 seconds, but he somehow has a fucking 26.5% pressure percentage. He’s last in the league at time to throw at 3.23 seconds. Outside of pressure, he’s 28th in the league in OnTgt percentage at 73%, and his receivers have a 3.8% drop percentage, which is the 5th best in the league. His receivers also are 9th in the league in YAC and he took a lot more check downs this year, but he’s like 21-28 in every single efficiency stat.

@@Kaigiro Because Williams sucks too? He couldn't win anything in a weak Pac-12, cries in the face of adversity, and can't read a defense to save his life. He's maybe the 4th best QB out of the Pac-12 this year. There isn't a "great" QB in this draft class. One or two might make a Pro Bowl as a reserve some day. But that's about it.

Possible reasons Fields didn't get traded: 1 - No one was particularly interested and/or didn't offer enough to make the Bears interested 2 - Bears plan to keep Fields and trade out of the #1 pick for a bounty of more draft picks 3 - Bears will hold onto Fields until some team loses their starter and is desperate 4 - Brandon Perna shaves his beard and scares his family I like Fields but agree that he really seems to have troubles in the biggest moments of games. I'd actually be fine with him being Seattle's backup but Seattle needs to be able to get him for a pair of 5th round picks at most. He could be high reward, but it seems more like high risk to me.

His all 22 is some of the most painful film you can watch. He's just bad. He gets to the top of his drop and panics if his first read isn't there. Hes a "see it throw it" guy and that doesn't work in the NFL. If you see it open you're likely already late and thats the story of Fields career so far, he's late in throws all the time. Even worse, he knows hes gonna be late now, he'll see a concept come open but because he can't process fast enough nor does he have any anticipatory ability, which is why he panics so much at the top of his drop. The Lions game we lost was probably his best game of the year, according to most folks, yet in that game, folks fail to reconize him turning down open players to bail out, and yeah the bailouts look cool when they work, but he was just making the game harder on himself. The line was serviceable, the offense looked more fluid with an undrafted noodle arm QB because that QB was able to actually make anticipatory throws on time. The guy just isn't good but his playstyle is cool sometimes so he gets all the excuses. Folks act like we had no weapons, Moore, Kmet and Mooney are legit. Fields activity refuses to throw to Kmet if he's not OSU wide open. Same with Mooney, same thing we've been saying about him since he was a rookie, he can't reconize NFL open still. Jones, Jenkins, Patrick, Davis and Wright were servicable all year, had a couple bad games agaist good teams in Green Bay and Cleveland, but their Dlines made alot of teams look bad, this line was even down right dominant at times this year, agaisnt Detroit 2 times, Washington with all 4 of their original starters, Tampa, Denver and Vegas. Fields just isn't good. The Tampa game was his worst as a pro, the play where he turned down 3 open players who all would've scored on a busted play was irredeemable. Folks complain about all the screens down the stretch, did yall see how lost Fields was in that game? All they could call was a screen at that point, Fields looked lost all day in Tampa. Simply watch his all 22 and see just how bad he is, he's not an NFL caliber QB, it'll be fun watching him in the XFL here in a few years tho.

As a cardinals fan I remember when people thought we'd get the 1st overall pick and be in this same situation but with Kyler on the trade block, and it was very humbling to hear fans from every other team let me know loudly and strongly how much they did not want their team to trade for Kyler. It feels like the same situation is probably happening with Fields, his team and fans over value him, everyone else under values him, and that disconnect makes agreeing on trade terms difficult. It also doesn't help that there's so much QB talent available this offseason. The Browns only got a conditional 5th for Baker, just a year removed from a great season and a play off win, in an offseason where the second best QB option was taking a gamble on drafting long shot prospect Kenny Pickett. This year had multiple starting caliber QBs hit the free agent market and has 3-4 QBs being projected as going in the 1st round of the draft.

I’m telling y’all as a Bears fan. We are not trading Justin Fields.

As a Lions fan, Perna/TGS is my favorite nfl media anywhere. I do appreciate that he has sort of adopted the Lions as a secondary favorite though......we see you Brandon & we appreciate it. (Grossi is actually my #2, which is ironic considering I think his Packers are also a steaming pile of #2.)

I’m still holding on to hope the Broncos will trade for Justin Fields. It would bring joy to my heart as a Chiefs fan.

Why didn't the Broncos trade for Fields??? Payton is on record saying that he wanted to pick Mahomes in the draft... Similar traits 🤷‍♂️
