For an interruption test I would suggest some small bushes/leaves in front of a target to simulate real obstacles you might want to shoot through. Water just has way too much stopping power (it stops real bullets fairly quickly too).

I’d do a few pages of paper or cartons. You need some kind of standard and putting brushes or leaves seems way to random. But I agree water might be too hard cause if it already Stopps real bullets you’ll probably loose a lot of detailed info with bbs

I agree that a wind tunnel would be a nice way to measure dispersion. It would be the most similar to actual usage effects, but could be difficult to make long enough unless you have a homogenous high flow rate of air. You could create a tunnel to isolate from the external environment and use a kestrel (maybe you could get a sponsorship, learn how to make a clone of one, or borrow one from a shooting buddy) or something to measure wind velocity. You would need to make sure there is no wind on the back of the fan to cause varying windspeeds.
@Gnievv4 жыл бұрын
Maybe not the "interruption" thingy, but you can use ballistic gelatin in order to measure the behavior of different BBs! Great video guys!
@4UADSmartAirsoft4 жыл бұрын
Gnievv we actually did that for the pre test, it was really fun to see different weights of bbs would have a different depth when it hits the jelly, however we took that out because it really took too much time time to make jelly. For future mass production tests we won’t be using the jelly, however I think we can make an episode for it! Still thanks for the suggestion buddy! Really appreciate it!
@jtmcfarland35124 жыл бұрын
Jelly can be made to different densities. Standard ballistic gelatin follow an FBI protocol for density based on live targets. Lighter densities can be used as a medium when not attempting to recreate effect on live targets. However, gelatin is more dense than water in general and the BBs would penetrate even less. Fun idea, but this would be hard to measure due to the short penetration depths.

Awesome video. I've seen enough firearms shot at water to know that there was no way the bbs would made it through the "interruption test". The first box would probably stop some actual bullets. But hey, at least it clearly shows shows how heavier bbs *retain more energy* . So it's a successful test, just not testing what you were aiming for. I'd suggest simply shooting in an indoor range with a small fan generating a side breeze, that should test how different bb weights deal with the environmental issues.
What material is that black mat you threw away at 2:30

The problem is that air has a density about a thousand times less than water. a BBs that crosses 7 cm of water would be equivalent to about 7000 cm of air (70 meters), and without counting the energy lost when crossing the first foam barrier.

The BB Ballet in the interruption chamber was mesmerizing. Definitely award winning cinema. I was right with you for the ride and then, no conclusion. So, I'm thinking my BBs are usually interrupted by bodies. I'd be interested in knowing: At what distance for a given FPS does a BB impact an object with enough force to affect that object. "Call your hits!" "Did you hit me?"

You can get Joule calculations based on BB flight distance. I use a free app from the Google Play store for this. Unfortunately, factors such as apparel and body armor, friendly fire and ricochet rules, adrenaline, and more will have an affect on the "real-world" results. With field limits often based on the Ballahack studies, there's not much we can do to ensure safety while simultaneously ensuring targets feel and call their hits. Unless we start regulating how thick your clothing can be and taking some of the fun out of the game, it seems like a rabbit hole to me.

Also accuracy in correlation with range is the real benchmark if 0.4 is able to perform well on 30 meters and beyond and the others are not, the answer would be ez 'yes heavy BB for the win'.. Did you use 11.1v lipo? And we would like to see the chrono before every test.. Last but not least, It would be even better if each bb weight was shot with the exact same joule - obviously.. Make a box with the right side missing. Use the right side to increase the airflow at 90 degrees to the bb's trajectory and parallel to the ground. Only make the box as long as the width of the airflow is. Do not make it too big because you want the BB to be under constant pressure through the box. You can use a fan or a hairdryer but again a hairdryer will be harder to use since it has a small surface area. A fan will be better because it provides a longer airflow which is not uniform. In real life throughout a BB's flight path through woodland or open space, it will experience different directions of airflow so it is realistic to do the experiment with a fan. It would be good if you then placed the fan so it was pouring the air from above and then from below. My guess is that when pouring the air from above the BB will travel up.

@Moondog2A4 жыл бұрын
@@4UADSmartAirsoft Since you already had the camera, target-stand, and gun set up, it would relatively easy to just run the same experiment 2-3 more times per weight to get an average. You wouldn't even need to film all test runs, just a still frame of the end average. Certainly easier than building a water tank. Great job on building that BTW, even if that ended up being a rabbit hole of unexpected outcomes. I'm actually in the process of repeating a 22lr accuracy test I just filmed last week. After I reviewed my footage I realized I should have randomized the order of which brand was shot within the test runs, so as to average variance in barrel warming and fouling as the experiment progressed. I have always preferred .32 vs .28 on a 1.5j setup(rhop though), I thought the heavier the better, but on your testings .28 performed better than .32s, is there a reason why or it could be that .28s got lucky on the tests?
@4UADSmartAirsoft4 жыл бұрын
Paulo Zaak ya this part wonders is too, we thought 0.32 would have a better result. We think it could relate to the design of the hop up rubber. But guess that is something to mythbust!
@nicktam28114 жыл бұрын
@@4UADSmartAirsoft Common wisdom that heavier BBs would require a hop rubber of higher hardness rating to achieve a consistent trajectory, the recommendation for 0.28g is only applicable to whatever hardness of hop rubber that was utilized in your 552. To further compound testing of heavier BBs, you need a bolt-action that shoots a much higher velocity to achieve said consistency. There's a reason why heavy BBs are usually marked for sniper usage only as your average AEG / GBBR simply could not utilize the heaviest BBs.

The trouble with using the same box is the airflow will be effected by your shape and surfaces, thus not giving a uniform result. If there is not sufficient flow of outside air to equalize pressure, you'll end up lowering the air density and thus getting the opposite results from shooting through a medium. This is why so many physics studies try to get conducted in orbit to minimize the effects of gravity and achieve a vacuum.

So based on your experiments... What BB weights do you consider optimal for Indoor and Outdoor airsoft? It looks like .25g for indoor for sure.. Fast moving projectile and really nice group.
@4UADSmartAirsoft3 жыл бұрын
Ya usually for indoor games based on the test 0.25 is really ideal and if your engaging distance is less than 20m you can use 0.2 as well. I personally run a 0.2 since it doesn’t hurt as much lol
@jtmcfarland35124 жыл бұрын
The density of the water correlates with the weight of water above the impact point. Therefore, you will get different trajectories based upon vertical dispersion of the BB holes. To minimize this effect, you could make the box as short as possible, but will have to consider the magnus effect in your height. To minimize the magnus effect and really study the way a medium effects flight path, you should turn your hop-up all the way off. Also, shooting from a closer distance (such as 2 meters instead of 5 m) can have a noticeable effect on retained momentum. Please read about Archimedes’ Principle for more information. Great work! Much appreciated!

Nah, based on this you can't draw the conclusion that 0.28 is the best, you'd have to repeat the test several times. And even if the results would be consistent, they'd be only true for this specific power level with this specific hopup setup and with this specific brand of BB. Interestingly, the last bottle of BB I bought was a 0.3 ASG Devil, in my upgraded LCT G3 it produces DMR level accuracy, in other guns it's just meh. Too many factors to just state that one type of BB is the best.
@4UADSmartAirsoft3 жыл бұрын
I have to agree there are way too many factors, the result is based on the current environment we tested, and the result can change instantly if anything changes. So I would say we found out 0.28 was the best under our test standard. As mentioned there are way too many factors, we can only lower the factors as much as possible. Still thanks for the in put man!

How about ballistic jelly (home made) to show interruption of BB path?
@4UADSmartAirsoft4 жыл бұрын
Matt Mills I wish I can share photos here lol but yes we did try out Homemade jelly in which we used jelly candle. It was really beautiful and yet a real pain in the ass. We thought about using it for our video long term, but the reuseability killed it. But for the sake of the effort will make a video for that!

Why not use nitrogen instead of water? Water is far more dense than air. Just purge the air out with a tank of nitrogen for each test
My mtw shoots 50-70 meeters easy.. 20m seems a bit to short to test... But w/e Also depends your jule rules I guess. I mean AEG/HPA is 1,7J Jules in Dk and snipers are 4-6 Jules.. most pistols also have a range of 40-50meters. But very nice video!
@Mondochiwan4 жыл бұрын
I think for this level of accuracy testing, your AEG might reach 70m but at that range the shots will be all over the place. With heavy BBs you're talking about like 2 seconds of travel, so much air interference along the way
@4UADSmartAirsoft4 жыл бұрын
Thanks buddy, ya like my SRS a1 can reach up to 80 meters because in the future we want to actually compare pistol accuracy and rifle accuracy, this way we would know how much of a difference in between a pistol and a rifle~

@@Mondochiwan the air interference with heavier bbs is minimal for every gram you go up even tho the velocity is lower. Also heavier bbs allow for longer ranges with accuracy because your applying more hop up

Yep we were scared to shit…. When people shows up we pack our shit and hide. note this was our company’s manager car parking area, at least not as many people would show up during weekends….. thanks for noticing though.

this test is flawed, measuring in squares is wrong because 2 diagonal shots are way off 2 vertical or horizontal shots, the shooting standard is measure the distance between the 2 fartheresg shots
