Robe sounds similar to Stockton Beach (NSW) where I go to most times for my beach and sand dune driving. My go-to tyre pressures for Stockton Beach is 18psi for my 80 Series. With that pressure, I can drive on the beach and dune all day with no hassles.

Gday mate I’ve never been to Stockton. I’ve heard the beach driving is pretty good as well. That’s a good all round tyre pressure mate. Works for your 80, that’s the go. Cheers tim

Been going to Robe for 23 years and love it. Easily the best sand driving I’ve done. The Beachport run is always a favourite high or low tide, love it. As you would have seen each beach is different and different driving is required. Long Gully, German point, Millicent buggy club are so different to each other but equally amazing. Great fishing and cold beers with a mates is all great times. If beach fishing isn’t your thing there are the fresh water lakes, there is something for everyone. Winter time it gets as cold as a mother in laws kiss so go to the Caledonian pub to keep warm. Love the place😀

Gday mate This was my first trip to Robe and it won’t be the last. It could turn into an annual trip about the same time of year. The beach we turned back to Robe looked a great beach for fishing. I’d like to bring the surf rod for sure on the next trip. Amazing beach driving and the tracks along the cliff tops. Thanks mate for your feedback Cheers Tim

Stayed at Southend for the Cup Weekend. 2 days on the beaches in my stock Triton with road tyres. Had to have a couple of go's at some of the dunes but had an absolute ball!! Mate with his Patrol had to pull me out once and could of used some extra clearance on a couple of rocky areas. We had a group of 12, experience at the front of the group leading us and at the back to help with recoveries. Found the sand dunes easier than the soft beaches in places.

Sounds like a great trip you had mate over Cup Weekend. Going out with a group is well advised in that area. It’s a great area, I’ll be back for sure next year. Thanks mate for your feedback Cheers Tim

One of the most common sense videos I have seen about going to this location tbh. I've seen people say how it's "easy" it is where in reality it can be extremely changeable and lots of vehicles have been lost on those beaches. We went along with a tag a long operator and sounds like we did about the same distance as you guys did. He was a local guy whose family had been in the area for many many years. He showed us some amazing places and it's an extremely beautiful area. Eyre Peninsula is amazing as well.

Thanks mate for your feedback. I also have heard about how challenging the beaches can be to drive in the Robe area. Going with a 4wd tour guide is a great idea when unsure of an area. I'll get up to the Eyre Peninsula next year for sure. Thanks again. Cheers Tim

@@timbates4wdadventures No worries mate. I've been meaning to get back to the Eyre Peninsula at some point as well. The varying shades of the water and the wild nature/remoteness of the place is quite stunning. Leave yourself some time to do it as even from where we are just out of Adelaide it's a fair old haul to get there. Pretty decent fishing as well.

Thank you for the beach driving tips. I live in Northern NSW and am just getting started in on 4wd and camping. I get very nervous when driving on sand as I am not used to it and haven’t had to recover myself or anyone else much. Got lots to learn and we have some nice beaches that I have driven on a handful of times. Also the national parks are a nice weekend away for me. I can do the basics but will not drive alone on beaches due to inexperience. I have tagged along with a few people who have been fantastic with their experiences and advice. One day maybe. My little Suzuki Grand Vitara needs a small lift with upgraded suspension. I would love to get to Robe one day. And the beaches over in WA are super nice. I have a few friends in Adelaide so a trip down there and back with a few catch ups looks like it might be on the cards in 6months to a year depending on work and university.

Very wise to be wary mate as my first experience beach driving was down that way and it was a nightmare. Listened to someone I shouldn't have and didn't listen to a local who warned us and I very nearly lost a near new vehicle in the Ocean. Fortunately I had 4 Max Trax and my vehicle is capable so we got out but it was very close indeed. Not sure why I listened to the person that I did as I'm usually very wary but that won't be happening again. The main issue, imo, is that sand can be very very different and there's some reddish colored stuff down that way that's extremely soft and there's also gradients down to the water that can suck you in. Wind blown sand can change the conditions very quickly as well. If you do go and don't have anyone to go with you can Google the tag along tour that we did and he will take you around the area. Costs a bit of coin but then so does recovering/replacing a vehicle. It's a lovely spot so hopefully you make it and enjoy it there. Cheers.

@@timbates4wdadventures Cheers Tim. My brother and a good friend have been with me on all my visits to the beach. I have been very fortunate that they are both experienced 4wders. I have learnt so much. I have met a few really good, kind local people who have helped me with recovery in particular. I met a young family when my brother and I went onto the beach to practice recovery a few months ago. It was pretty great driving conditions though. I got bogged (it was deliberate so I could feel the tyres spin and stuff). The young guy came running over (maybe 75metres probably more) to help. We all had a good laugh because it was an extremely good, solid sand base to drive on. When I finished digging and using the max track. We ended up having lunch with them and spent an hour talking about recovery, best ways to drive on sand, entries and exits especially from hard compacted or cement bases onto soft sand. It was a great experience. As they had grown up in the area and knew the beach really well. My first big investment was recovery points on my car. I’ve learnt that no matter how good you are as a driver or how capable your vehicle is you must be prepared. I have also invested in snatch straps, shovel, max traxs, and some personal protective gear and a weighted blanket (can’t remember what it’s called) for the snatch straps. Thank you for your videos. They are very practical and informative. I also like the ones we’re it’s just you doing stuff around camp. The relaxed nature is something I really enjoy. I like both beach and bush as the sounds of the wild life and nature (surf, birds, dew, smoke from campfires and even the temperature range). The lack of control you have over the elements and the only thing you have control over is you, your attitude, the self reliance of planning, safety, equipment etc.

@@oldbloke204 Thank you for sharing. I will look into the tag along you mentioned. Experience in all conditions is important. I also like to know how things work. I have more confidence if I have used something or know how it feels. I’m very much a hands on learner which is also something that I have realised is somewhat difficult when I am inexperienced. Having someone who is experienced with vehicles, driving, recovery and the area is invaluable for some one in my position. I am glad to be cautious now. But I also don’t want it to stop me. But yeah I will definitely look into that and keep learning. Thank you.

In NSW, we might not have the great scenic mountainous tracks of the VIC High Country, nor the breathtaking tropical landscapes of QLD, but we still do have plenty of brilliant beaches & dunes where we can still drive our 4WDs. But irreponsible 4WDers needs to get it into their thick heads that if they don't stop acting like cowboys with a devil may care attitude, and start leaving these places better than they found then, they will slowly be shut down.
