When bogged down to the chassis in sand, a hi-lift jack (standing on a spreader plate) with a wheel adaptor on, means that you can lift the wheel (axle) out of the hole, back fill the hole, slip a traction board underneath and drive off. This is often faster than shoveling, especially is soft sand that just wants to cave in. Sometimes (if you have diff locks) a line of traction boards under just one wheel, will get you double the distance once you get moving, compared to having boards under each wheel. Having myself been in a similar situation - 3 cars stuck in an incoming tide, and one with a broken CV, I thought I'd share our lessons.

I like a lot of other viewers am in disbelief at this episode and the rainbow beach episode. I used to watch you guys back in the early days and things have changed from being professional to looking like a bunch of first timers on the beach. I know in the heat of the moment you can forget things but tyre pressures and driving that close to the water in a place like there which is known for soft sand and then lowering tyre pressures to 15psi amazes me

Should have bagged those tires to 7psi. If you can’t walk on your side wall keep deflating. You only need to get out of the bog then pump up to a safer pressure.

A few years back i found myself stuck in soft sand just in the water of an incoming tide with no recovery gear and not a minute to waste, i pulled all 4 valves completely out and drove patrol up out of the water and off the beach about 50 meters away. As i got off the beach i lost 2 tyres off the rims. The patrol was safe off the beach. Was as close as it gets.

With our Triton MN on that Canunda beach we got stuck with 12psi, to get out and continue the run required 6psi. Those beaches can be a trap for beginners. I'm from the bush and now steer well clear of beaches.....along with salt lakes.

@richardwehipeihana81542 жыл бұрын
probably should have done the basics first. Stop, assess the situation, come up with a plan then execute the plan. looks like everyone was out to save themselves. and as everyone else has stated you probably best to go to 10psi and walk them up the beach. you could have used everyone's traction boards to move 1 car at a time to a better position.
@4WDTV2 жыл бұрын
It's funny reading all these comments and without going into details, there is a lot that happens behind the scenes and there's a lot that doesn't make the TV edit because of time restrictions. We did drop down to 10PSI, the truck and caravan opted not to do the climb and everyone worked on one car at a time...which is why there are people from four other vehicles working to get the worst placed vehicle out first. The recovery was run by one person who did stop, assess and get the situation sorted. It was just tough with the tide coming in, rain pouring down and the other issues. At the end of the day, everyone had fun, no one got hurt and we all got out with great stories to tell. Was an epic recovery and a great end to a brilliant trip.

Just watching this and the first thing I said, tyre pressures too high, then it came on the screen, dropped tyre pressures down to 15 psi. Got to be kidding me, dropping down to 15, should have been down to 12 psi in the first place and then down to 10 or even 8 psi. Why are people scared to drop down to very low pressures. Ok, you don't drive like a crazy man, drive to get out of a situation like this. But with all these dramas, did a great job getting out of that prickly situation.

Not sure about this vid? Nobody should be within a 50 metre radius of those joined straps while snatching. Tyre pressures ? This should be your first go to. You were lucky it was raining and the sand had some moisture in it, a 40 degree day would have been interesting. Content was good, but if inexperienced people are looking to this for advice 🤔 stay calm, dont panic, your thoughts will be clearer and you will make better decisions 👍

Anyone doesn’t think this all staged on the beach 🏝️ is delusional. All three trucks conveniently backed up to the crest of the beach. With all the camera tripods watching. Tire pressure are inflated so anyone will get stuck then deflated when needed.

Thank you for your feedback. Feel free to read through some of the comments. We were all under 20PSI but the SA sands and beaches are notorious and we should have been as low as 12. Far from staged but it was a great experience.

@@4WDTV I know the feeling getting bogged in an incoming tide, we lived 3 years permanent on Moreton Island, have been in quicksand and bogged on the beache while getting my boat out of the water. fun times. Your joking me, 15psi guys, you're meant to be professionals. Why aren't You eastern staters dropping your pressures lower. STOP mucking around, drop them to at least 10psi. I run 10psi, on my 33s 17inch, 315mm wide Diesel Avalanche rims, BFGoodridge K02s. Don't overload your vehicle. And you'll be fine. You'll hardly get anywhere in WA running those pressures. Fantastic video, but you could easily go lower.

Can i just say, this is the first time i have watched a video from 4WDTV, and i wasn't too engaged to be honest. So thought i would give some constructive feedback. You need to focus more on filming the actual driving and keeping the audience with you living through those moments. Explain the situations that you get yourself in during the filming itself. Stop cutting back to the drivers explaining what is actually happening in the videos, WAY to many cut backs to them just explaining stuff that we could just see with our eyes (plus it would be less time in editing). Also, please dont have that lady from 360 on this show again. By the end of the episode with all the talking i was completely sick of hearing her talk. Anyways, just some thoughts. :)
