WRECKED BMW E39 M5 Headlights Look Better Than New For Only $140!!

I got a pair of headlights for my E39 M5 from Pick N Pull that had lots of sun fade and wear. After a little bit of work and time got them looking like new once again. I bought used xenon facelift headlights on ebay because my junkyard didnt have any. mine were pretty sorry looking too and had broken adjusters. I had to replace my adjusters the hard way bc they were 2003 production lights. Had to go in through the rear with the new adjusters which was very hard and frustrating but once I did the first light the second light seemed easier bc I learned the tricks of how to get them in there just right. i did the same thing with wet sanding but instead of clear coating them i decided to just buff them after wet sanding and they look brand new. I just wanted to share my story. Nice work - yours look beautiful as well.

Thanks for sharing your experience. You can save some time by buffing them at home and installing back on the car really quick. Either way I found out you don't need a perfect pair of headlights for this car as long as they work and have no cracks from damage you can easily make them look like new again!

Noticed that car is a Californian car. Well it had passed all its emissions tests up until 4/16/17. What pick n pull is that with such a variety of e39s unmolested? I go to the Oakland and Richmond p&p and even 2 day old ones are almost completely gutted.Shouldve taken the rear light housings and vanos solenoids too. Last time I went to a pick n pull I took a valve cover to replace my warped one (that I believe to be the source of my phantom vacuum leak) and they rang it up as a timing gear cover!!😂😂🤣 I was like, "yeah, timing gear cover." $25

Sorry man can’t disclose the location because I still need e39 parts haha jk It’s the one in Rancho Cordova. It’s true though I noticed there’s a decent amount of e39s that still have plenty of parts on them left here in our area compared to the Bay Area.

How did you take the lens apart to scuff them down?

Couple screws on the back. Heat up the headlight so sealant is softer. Pry carefully around lens and housing area. Should be pretty easy with no force. There is a production stamp on the back of headlight that will let you know what type of sealant is used. There’s a sealant on some of these headlights that you pretty much can’t take apart.

They are not too dim and not too bright. Somewhere in the middle there and that’s what I was looking for.. maybe I’ll post a pic on ig soon
