I know it’s the look of genuine surprise on his face that gets me every time I watch this scene, it’s like he can’t actually believe she is really truly in love with him. Before Elena I don’t think Damon really believed he deserved to be loved so completely and unconditionally by anyone, Elena changed that for him and she gave him a love that he had been looking for his entire life.

@@elleiahjx3718 how lol? bonnie always put everyone before her. she died/almost died like a million times trying to protect her family, friends, and random strangers. she let Damon escape that prison world without her and in the end, she risked her own life to protect all of Mystic Falls. On top of all that, she still lost Enzo. tbh bonnie deserved better than what she got in her storyline. Damon is also selfless because he let Elena and Stefan be together and tried to make her hate him (Damon) so that she wouldn't fall in love with him (Damon) and break Stefan's heart. remember that scene where Damon brings Elena back her necklace that Stefan gave her (the one that symbolized her love with Stefan) and told her he loved her but then compelled her to forget it because he didn't want her to have to choose between him and his brother. He didn't want to hurt Elena or Stefan. Elena and Damon only dated once Elena accepted her feelings for Damon, not to mention that Damon was willing to take the cure for Elena and live out his life as a human with Elena, not because he wanted to be human but because Elena wanted that. Yea Damon made some pretty bad choices that killed people but so did Stefan, Caroline, Elena (pretty much any vampire on the show). Overall, imo both Bonnie and Damon put others' needs above their own, which I think is the definition of selfless.

After so many years i get it. This is what my mom would say. There are two types of love from which you'll have to choose: the easy love without any problems or conflicts, which on the contrary has less passion and adventure. And then on the other side the real, true and passionate love that not many people have because they prefer the 'easier' way. This is in this case Stefan and Damon for Elena. Its not about being for the "toxic" relationship. Its about fighting for the love of your life,accepting their flaws and grow together to something better. In the past when I was 11 years old i stopped watching tvd because i was for Stelena. But now with 19 years i totally get Elena.

E R Because it is in the middle range of PG13, it is not something I would let someone under 13 or so watch. I think until they are around that age and begin to be able to make wise decisions their viewing of things like this that displays highly questionable decision making as ok should be censored. Things was more passionate with them because Damon excepted who he was and who Elena was as a human and Vampire. It's not about the relationship being toxic it's about they loved each other when other people seen them as something else. They had real love. What Stefan wanted with Elena was a fantasy. They loved each other too but Elena was never truly in love with him the way she was with Damon

Choosing Damon was the best and worst decision Elena ever made. He made her feel more than Stefan did: passion, danger, adventure, etc. he’s not a good person and she knows that. She could have chosen Stefan and been happy easy, but she chose Damon because he challenges her and makes her question everything about her, which can be hard and frustrating, but it’s also beautiful and amazing, and that’s what Elena wanted: passion and adventure. He changed her and she changed him, by making him want to be a better person for her, and when he chose to be human later, it showed how much he loved her, more than being a vampire because he was open to the chance of it not working out and being miserable, which is a choice he isn’t willing to make here, because he hasn’t experienced enough to feel that
