You know what the truth is , Damon was always a selfless person, you remember to what extent he went to save Katherine. After becoming a vampire too he was really a good person. He respected her choice to be with Stefan even though he loved her, he stood by her no matter what, unlike Stefan who acted like a 5 year old when she chose Damon, acted like she was only supposed to he with him forever, like choosing damon meant something was wrong with her and she needed fixed! She loved Stefan, nobody ever denied that but she fell in love with Damon too, she didn't plan on it and she didn't want it but it happened and she shouldn't have to apologize for being in love and happy. I feel like Damon really does not believe he has good in himself,even when his actions often argue the opposite. His demeanour,his sarcasm and dark and self deprecating humour, all indicative to it. So much so that it tends to convince people of the same,and you know how people can tend to stick to first judgements. At one point of time, when Stefan was just as cruel or even worse so in, and callous in his deeds, he had Lexi to reassure him, to give hope for a better living. We see Stefan struggle, but I feel like his struggle is always glorified to be that of Honourable, and Damon's good intentions are hidden away, and only the final product is shown. Damon is the villain. And Stefan is the struggling Hero. I do *not* think on Stefan's part it's a act he puts on, but that is the way it ultimately transcends. There's a depth to these characters, and you have to look beyond whats portrayed, Beyond WHEN is portrayed.

He’s a clear example that actions speak louder than words. He thought so poorly of himself and everyone around him kept telling him just how bad he was. Yet love changed him, love for his brother and for Elena. If he hadn’t loved them both so deeply, he would have never become the better version of himself. While other characters change too, in my eyes, he’s the one with the greatest transformation. He’’ll forever be one of the best characters ever written for tv. Ian portrayed him so flawlessly that it was easy to forget he wasn’t real. He was the first character from TVD that I loved and what kept me glued to the show. He sacrificed himself so many times yet he called himself selfish. Underneath it all, he was an unconventional hero. Stefan even called him the better man in the end but I honestly believe they were equally good and bad. They both risked their lives to save the ones they loved. They both brought a lot of pain and suffering onto innocent victims. They both went to hell and back for each other, that’s why the way the show ended was absolutely perfect. They were each other’s saving grace and found peace, together.

Of course he is selfless. I saw it from the start. I saw his intentions. I saw his behavior. I saw his inner character. He tried so hard to manipulate everyone including himself into thinking he was selfish, but his actions beg to differ. He’s not selfish, he never was. And all these moments show it. Let me explain something to you. Damon is something special. He had a lot on his plate. Even when he was human. He Had a traumatic childhood, traumatic teenage hood, and when he was an Augustine-dont even get me started. And he went through all of this with no one except the only people he held on to, which was Stefan and Katherine but they let him down. And at some point He just stopped caring about the world. And at some point that will numb your feelings. Because there will always be a point where you will break tired and come to a final closure that nothing matters anymore. He had to survive physically and mentally through this crucial period. But then he met Elena who looked like Katherine but was the complete opposite. He loved her but He obliterated it so his brother would be happy. Even when he told Elena how he felt he erased it so it wouldn’t effect Stefan or Elenas relationship. And don’t forget Stefan was the one that forced Damon to be a vampire when Damon didn’t want that at all, but you wanna know what Damon did.he completed the transformation so that Stefan wouldn’t be alone. But atleast he got his happy ending...he got the girl!

Damon wanted to trade places with Jenna on the altar, but he couldn't because he was bitten. Only Katherine would know this. Elena was only supposed to see Stefan make that offer at the altar because he's the one who likes to play hero. They would hand Damon another selfless moment in 3x1, and that moment would be a private one... for Elena herself.

When damon tells Rebekah to runn....That just showed how selfless he was i mean he risked his life for someone he didn't like , who threatened to kill the women he loves many times and he did it anyways. I mean i cried so bad in that scene , i mean he could've let her die but instead he chose to help her.. I just hate people who watch tvd and complain about damon being so selfish and evil but the truth is he wasn't . He risked everything for people he cared about .. i mean in the 60's decade dance when he learns that bonnie was going to die you could tell that he was worried about her , even though he "hated" her. I honestly believe that damon was always good he was just so much hurt and so was stefan . They had been through to much , they said that they hated each other. The truth is they never truly did. The brotherhood between both of them was just so amazing. The last episode of tvd was just so sad , but i just want to make sure everyone understands stefan's sacrifice. STELENA FANS HE DIDN'T DO IT BECAUSE HE LOVED ELENA HE DID IT BECAUSE HE LOVED DAMON. ❤ ok he gave his life for his brother , so that he would be happy. TVD wasn't about elena and damon or elena and stefan. It was about two brothers who hurt each other more than anyone but who would risk anything for each other .It was about fixing their bond , it was ..about family.👨‍👦♥️

The sad thing about Damon: he is not selfish, like he keeps on telling others. He is impulsive and does stupid (selfish looking) things out of it. Give him some time (or just a few seconds) and he realizes how dumb it was. I adore Damon since the very beginning of season 1 but I haven't noticed that before in such an intensity... I get into so many arguments about how Damon is the most selfless character - because he gets no credit for the good he does and does it anyway. I love this video. Another of my favourite selfless Damon moments is when he tells Stefan: "You are not allowed to feel my guilt. You are not responsible for my actions, I own them." Damon professes in the same scene to still hate Stefan, but then gives him that gift, helping to ease Stefan's burden of guilt over turning his brother into a vampire.

Damon first met Elena and ended up with her at the end. Elena was the first person to ask him what he wants and was Damon's only true friend ever since the beginning. Damon doesn't sees Katherine in Elena because Elena cared for Damon and Katherine didn't. Damon always says that he's the bad guy and that elena should pick Stefan over him cause his the good guy but Elena didn't. She told him that there is a part of him that is nice or that he has his humanity. Elena changed Damon to be a better vampire and to always think before making a decision and always care for his brother. I love how Damon and Elena was the endgame cause they changed each other in a good way or in a better way

I miss this Damon. Somewhat reckless, but very mature deep down and aware of it. The latest seasons he became a caricature of himself, and just accepts sheepishly whenever any off the "good" guys is a jerk to him. The show was good when it respected the grey moral of its characters, but now it is just sad to watch what it has become.

Damon's role is the real hero. He is not afraid of anyone he faces, but he will be weak by "elena's love". Damon struggles more to help those around him even though he's a little rougher (but behind that there are deep feelings of love), but all he does is do his best. Amazing character for Damon

He had to watch as SE were together even though he loved her, he was still there even though she chose Stefan. Um didnt they make a deal? When Elena chooses someone, the other one would walk away so they would be happy? And Stefan was hurt but he knew that he practically drove Elena to it' and understood why she went with damon. And Stefan couldn't do nothing when it was his fault she was a vampire. Damon kept blaming him and he wanted to fix it so he tried to. And in season 5 he admitted he wanted damon to screw up but then stopped. And he supported damon and Elena together. When "elena" Kissed him in the motel, he said this is wrong you and damon just split. And he was selfless even when Elena didn't need him for example in season 7 when Elena was not there,he still saved damon? And then left cause he didn't want Caroline or Alaric and his kids get hurt. And in the end he sacrificed himself for damon and Elena. I'd say that was selfless

I hate when people say Damon is selfish. For me one of the biggest differences between Stefan and Damon is that Stefan is selfless for people to like him and Damon is selfless when nobody is watching. Stefan is like „hey look at me, I’m selfless, I sacrifice myself for Damon and Elena this is big please tell everyone“ and Damon is selfless without people really noticing, just by saying or doing the right thing. Also: Damon wanting to save Elena even if it means that she will hate him for it is probably the most selfless thing a person could do.

Stefan often did not mention how selfless Damon was for him in there human years defending Stefan and Lily from Giuseppes rath knowing that by doing so he would receive abuse in all forms or almost all forms by there Father. As well as Damon wanting to quit the army due to wanting to get home to help Stefan and because he did not think he was on the right side. I am surprised Damon did not want anything to do with Stefan anymore period if I were Damon I would have broken things off with Stefan for good or mostly good at the point in 1864 were Damon asked Lexi to help Stefan.

Damon is far from perfect, but he works at his flawless & he sets everyone's happiness and savety above his own, which makes him the most selfless person in Mystic Falls.
