I just bought one of these little 4wd auto 2 door trackers this summer for our dingy. 1996, 83K miles never seen salt until this week here in the midwest. Nice little suv for 3500.00

That exhaust reminds me of the 67 Dart we did back in HS. Rocket sidepipes on a 170 slant 6. (courtesy of the scrap bin in back of Midas on North Druid Hills rd at N Dekalb mall) Just makes sounds that should not be there considering what is under the hood. Sounds and looks great! I know what you mean. We just completely rebuilt a 2000 Caravan trans. makes no sense other than we now know what we have and we own it. That makes the most sense ever.

I'll be flat towing in the near future and have been doing some research. All I've heard is that you should always put your transfer case in neutral and your auto trans in PARK because you don't want your auto trans gears moving with no fluid pressure.

I owned a Tracker the first year they were introduced. Loved it! The only real issue I had with it were the brakes. I was constantly having to get new brake pads and machined rotors at about $300 a pop. I still miss it from time to time but just recently purchased a Jeep and can't wait to hit the road with it. I wish you well with the Tracker. :-)

Years ago I bought a used Isuzu Amigo. I really enjoyed that little SUV, but it had a chronic wiring problem and kept jumping time. I finally got rid of it, when I felt like I was spending more time with it in the shop, than I was driving it. When I did drive it I put a lot of miles on it, and it gave me great fuel mileage. I wish I had been able to remedy the timing/wiring issues, and kept it, but I found out the problems with buying an older import vehicle and parts supply/mechanics available who are competent in making repairs.

One thing I swear by is my every 6 months ( or when needed ) treatment of using Berryman's carb / injector cleaner in one full tank and then the next tank full using Marvel Mystery oil . That combo seems keep the engine clean and sharp running , no problems with colds starts and no top end clatter or knocks . My uncle who was a mechanical wizard told me that back in the late 70's and I've used it religiously . It would be great for a vehicle that has sat because it's good at lubing and restoring seals and gaskets and it's excellent for the fuel injection . It will also unstick rings and help the valve train . Marvel Mystery Oil is exactly what it says ... great stuff . PK

One thing about buying used vehicles up in the Midwest, is all the rust on it due to our salted roads during winter months. Hopefully you don't have that issue down there and don't need to worry about its affect on a vehicle. Any time I'm working under mine, I'm usually covered with dirt and rust debris after crawling out. I look forward to retiring in a warmer southwestern climate.

Flat towing, I didn't even think of that when I bought it, I have an RV and used to pull a s10 4x4 truck. It didn't like the larger tires. Sometimes I would have to get out and turn the steering wheel on th truck, like when going out a driveway. The bigger tires kinda sterred it weard.

I didn't realize you owned Samurais! I drove a red '87 JX tintop (bought new) for 5 years, had to trade it in on a minivan after our son was born (all of his "baby stuff" wouldn't fit, lol.) A fun little truck but needed more power for the highway. Plus the Missus prefers an automatic. I always liked the Sidekick/Tracker too. A logical upgrade from the Sammys. Your philosophy on buying used is very sound, we had the same thought with buying our 2005 RV for less than a new subcompact car, as any major issues would still keep it all affordable (knock on wood.) Looking forward to your new adventures with the Tracker!

at 30 mph you can increase gas but not speed. The engine revs much higher without forward movement equal to to it. If I ease thru the gears at that speed I can reach 55 to 65 easily. If I push it I just rev. So, before I do serious damage I am having it seen about.

I guess I got lucky with my 1987 Suzuki Sammy lifted 4x4, standard. Just needed to replace the tires and transfer case so far, nothing major. But now, I'm sure I've cursed myself and will need to rebuild the engine or ? I do have what I believe is a vapor lock. Every once in a while, the engine sputters and shortly thereafter, stalls. It takes a few minutes of sitting and then it starts up. I bought a new fuel filter but haven't put it on yet - because it's too f'n cold. But will get to that and see if that helps. Might just be a clog. But, all in all, I adore my Suzuki. Great toad, light weight and gets you out of anything - well just about! The thing I like best about it is I understand the mechanics, i.e. carburetor, standard transmission, etc.. I don't understand fuel injection and subsequently can't fix myself and that was important to me when I was looking for a dependable toad. May you always drive with the wind at your bumper! Smile :) & be brave!
@CampervanKevin7 жыл бұрын
I bet a fuel filter as well. I really like my Samurai's for sure. The Tracker does everything a Samurai does but is just a little more road/highway friendly. I was looking at both when I purchased Tracker. My blue one did have a 1.6 in it- best of both worlds.
@sewashburn05297 жыл бұрын
Really nice Tracker, and you've made it even nicer. Take the top off for air conditioning, right? Do you have the rear camera installed on the RV yet? Thank you for sharing the pictures of your older Trackers, Sidekicks, Samurais, etc. What causes the waviness on the edges of the videos? Is that from post processing from uploading as a result of the GoPro's fish eye lens?
@CampervanKevin7 жыл бұрын
Camera not in yet. Very busy here at Basecamp. The waviness is caused from the editing software. Sometimes it shows itself as it tries to remove bumps, jerkiness in the videos. I do not have a gimble to help me steady camera. Usually I am pretty steady. This one got by me.

they made factory purple trackers. Been a long time since I saw one. They made pink, yellow among many others too.

Kevin, I came to your channel after test driving a pretty clean 1994 Geo Tracker ($2500). Manual transmission, 4x4, 1.6. Any advice what to look out for? 130,000 miles. I'm considering buying it

front wheel bearing seem to be an issue, has timing belt been done? if no proof figure $300 to pay someone in price- water pump at same time....Clutch done yet? $350 or so.

#348 Hello, Kevin; Good that you did your homework before laying out the cash on your Traker. I purchased my RV brand new and I had ten (10) punch list items that needed repaired----all covered by warranty! About $5,000.00 and the whole month of February. Now it runs like a charm. And I am very happy with it. So --- if you buy new or use --- be prepared to find stuff.

It's no surprise that I vehicle of that age needs an exhaust replacement. It is in very nice shape for its age. If it were mine I would much prefer a standard transmission to an automatic. I guess it's probably because of my age that I prefer the standard transmission because most young people probably haven't even used one.

I'd prefer standard too, but nice trackers are getting scarce. You have to look at overall picture.

allan fulton - the clutch cables snap in the 5 speeds easily - too much play. I replaced 3 in 4 months time - I wasn't abusive with it either.
