I’m a Jeep guy, but respect these Sprinters too. The choice of tires are obviously important & I also see people talking about locking diff(s). Have to disagree there; the Sprinter doesn’t need a locker, as based on its purpose (i.e. you shouldn’t be wheeling it like a Jeep or Land Rover). It’s the weight & wheelbase that make the Sprinter less capable off-road. This is the perfect vehicle for light trails & long-distance hauls through inclement weather.

I suspect it would weigh a similar ballpark figure to a Range Rover, and there are plenty of other heavier 4x4's, so that's not really much of an get out. I guess then it needs to be considered as a van primarily with load carrying capabilities and some light off-road work.
@4x4overlandSprinter6 жыл бұрын
Very interesting walk in the park ! Nice set up ! Well done ! I think you will agree: your Sprinter performs already very good, but if you would have a diff lock on the back axle ... that would be heaven. It's a pitty in a lot of countries the diff locks are not available. In Belgium a lot of 4x4's and/or changes to it are not allowed, but I'm lucky the Sprinter with permanent 4x4 and diff locks is available. Keep up comming the good videos! See you on the road.

Great demonstration video of how capable the factory 4x4 is. You don't see too many people on KZbin willing to put the 4x4 Sprinter through its paces off-road. Do you have any recovery gear onboard? Maxtrax, Hilift or winch? Did you install any undercarriage skid plates or nerf bars? I really like the Sprinter 4x4 van as a campervan platform for overlanding. I'm curious what sold you on the Sprinter compared to for example the Transit? Factory 4x4 is a huge factor for sure but did you consider the Transit with an aftermarket 4x4 upfitting from, for example, Quigley? I am weighing this now. I like the option of having gas for the fuel source to avoid the ULSD issue, especially abroad. Also I saw somewhere that the German aftermarket 4x4 upfitter Ighault Allrad will be taking orders for their 4x4 Sprinter conversions in 2019. The cost for this conversion is jaw dropping. To get front, mid and rear locking diffs seems like a dream come true. (when I hit the lottery).
@hustlelife3696 жыл бұрын
Nitram Midnite Thanks for watching! At the moment no recovery gear so I didn’t do anything too crazy at least not yet. Yes, locking Diffs is where it’s at however I am surprised on how the 4x4 system works on the Sprinter, there was a few situations where I thought I was stuck but the 4x4 system figured it out and was able to get out no problem. I did research on the Sprinter 4x4 system and the turning radius is what sold me. I will be adding a winch and skid plates... I wanted a Mercedes so didn’t even look into the competition. Being a real estate agent, pulling up in a Mercedes I think makes a better impression when meeting new clients. Overall I’m happy with the purchase i use it as my daily driver, it gets better gas mileage than my Mercedes C300 go figure lol.
@cristim56205 жыл бұрын
Ford Transit was my first option but the 4x4 conversion by Quigley costs 12,000 - 20,000$. The diesel engine option adds 6,500$.(I prefer diesels because they last much longer than gas engines). Lately I saw online a few Ford Transit vans with a Quigley 4x4 conversion, around 55,000$. In 2015, when I ordered my Sprinter 4x4, I did not have that option. Anyway, after 57,000 miles my Sprinter never had any problem, it runs like new, with an average of 19mpg (that is approx 12l/100km), The average was a little better but in our most recent trip we drove from Oregon to Florida and back, with 2 big kayaks on top.
