Great Video - all in! Instead of a winch, a grab hoist can also be used; easier and attachable to all sides of the 4x4. But it also costs as much as a winch ... Best regards and Cheers, Alfred

Nice shopping list... So far I just have some old rope and a spade and shovel. The spade got used on Wednesday as I got stuck in snow up the Cam High road near Hawes - the drifts were up to 5 foot. All the times I have really got stuck, a front winch would have been no good, only a rear winch or Tirfor, but each time I have got a friendly (but expensive) farmer to help with a tractor... I don't fancy getting a snatch tow rope as I have seen too many spectacular epic fails with them breaking off the tow point of the stuck vehicle and sending it through the rear window AND the front windscreen of the towing vehicle....

The synthetic ropes seem much better at first, but I realized there are many downsides. They are almost as dangerous when they snap as the steel cables. It's a myth that they just drop when they break. They get sand and grit stuck in them(the more expensive ropes do have a protective coating for this) and between that and the abrasion from sliding across things, they loose their strength over time. The UV from the sun will also slowly degrade the fibers over time (the protective coatings available also help with this a lot). They get damaged much easier and they slowly degrade over time and with use until they snap and are possibly more dangerous because people think they are in no danger if they break The main advantages of synthetic are weight, they float, and they are easier on your hands. I think I can live with those downsides for the added dependability

I would suggest having an impact wrench with a fully charged battery. You never know who is going to get a flat and some wheel bolts are a bastard to remove with bare hands. Havent had to use my wrench in the field yet, but, you never know.

Good advice for somone starting out but i go nowhere without my trusted hi lift jack which you can use to lift your rig to put tracks under the wheels or as a winch with the use of shackels and stropes if the worst should happen.Ive got the same winch as you on my nissan terrano 3.0l but i also carry a winch ground anchor just incase there is nothing around to attach your winch too.All the best stay well and safe Justin

Love content like this, you could maybe incorporate clips from previous videos showing how and when you used certain items, like the max tracks in Portugal sands etc. I have nearly all the same gear except the tracks, now you mentioned levelling that might be a better option than carrying levelling blocks. I'd love to see more content on your fridge and cooking arrangements etc. with some real world videos between. Anyway keep up the good work and have fun 👍

Maybe it doesnt fall on the recovery gear category, but a saw, and axe or a machete (or all of the above!) might come in handy in some recovery situations, or to avoid them! I've seen 4x4 turning back around, or trying some sketchy lines just because they couldnt clear a falen tree and stuff like that. And those tools serve dual porpuses! 😉

I’m sorry to say that this is a prime example of mis information, the winch 13500lbs = 6T+ pulley blocks rated 8T, need at least 12T so underrated, shackles 3.75T on straight line pull ? Using the recognised 2>1 safety factor yes maybe, on the pully blocks NO, you always need at least 2 bow shackles then add soft shackles as these can’t be used in any situation that has sharp edges example the pully blocks, rear pull with front winch is a myth, about all you can do is change the ground your on for possible grip, if you use a kinetic strap/rope never ever use as a winch strap. Over all you produce some good videos that I enjoy watching, but of late your more technical viewings are starting to let you down. You live a life that you enjoy and I suspect gives very limited income, but I’m sure some training courses would not go amiss, the river crossing with someone tied to a winch rope was so close to a drowning if they had slipped

If you find any good quality winch rings please update us all. I can’t find and good value for money ones as cheap Chinese ones are just going to brake and the ones that are branded are stupid money and cheaper to have a winch block. Don’t think 🤔 worth upgrading yet as there nothing wrong with the block lol 😂 Never thought about having 2 winch blocks or 2 winch rings b4 and what you where saying is a really good idea 👍

Good stuff great video :) Think we’ve used some of this gear once or twice 🤣. I’d keep the bow shackles over the soft shackles. Your never snap one but the soft shackles tend to snap under there braking strain. But never use shackles of any kind to join straps together.
