A 4X4 Chevy Truck was stuck in this swamp for about 4 weeks, several tries to pull it out failed. so we brought the wrecker over to get it out.

You are on the right track. The cable, when it snaps is realeasing all of the energy it built up while being stretched. The point in which it snaps is where the energy is released. The blanket absorbs the energy and basically causes both cable halves to fall to the ground. The blanket would have to be made taught in order to accelorate at the same rate as the cable. It is kinda like punching a board versus a couch cusion. All kinetic energy is absorved before movement can take place.

Many years ago a fellow on my shift at the mine took his new F-250 down in the river an got it stuck up to the door handles. He walked over to the stop where the mine bus picked and went to work. While at work he organized a rescue mission for after work. When we arrived at the river with men and trucks we found two fellas who had winched the Ford out and were cleaning up their tools, straps and winch. Seems they had gone down to the river found the stuck truck and thought it a great opportunity to use their new winch. It was a tense meeting at first which thankfully turned into a bonfire and beer party.

Years ago, a friend of mine was lied to by someone stuck off-road in the mud in order to get him to go into the woods with his wrecker. They got to the truck stuck in the mud, my friend said, "I'm not getting muddy....here, you hook it up". The guy asked, "What do I hook the cable to?" My friend replied, " Hook it to the part you want to come out"😉

I used to drive a Ford wrecker and we would have done this a lot differently. First I would have chained a snatch block to the front of the Chevy, doubling the pulling power of the winch by running the cable back to the Ford and shackleing it to the rear deck. Also, I wouldn't run the cable over the crane but through a fair lead on the deck. It's not only safer in case the cable parts,but allows the cable to pull straight and lessen the load on the chassis. We also rear wheel chain plates...

Goodyear Wrangler MT's... They're 37x12.50x16.50 off of a Humvee. You can get a set of 4 for about 400, but they're used. Can usually get them from Trailworthy Fab with 90-95% tread per tire.

Been there but not a month, 24 hours max, lots of jacking up, friends getting rocks from anywhere they could and build a rock road out if that shit, yes you must go in and under, it's worse during the winter and you break threw the ice and get stuck in the hole. Can only hook to the frame part or you will tear off shit. I went swimming one night in ice cold water and it was 5 degrees out, thank you for beer, felt like 25 degrees, hair was wet and all. I hooked up the chain so well, it was the best hookup I done, I guess I didn't want to go in a 2nd time. We got out in a hour. Heavy Chevy, I'll never put mudding tires in again, always dug and got stuck, my all season tires that's 32's in 15 inch rims went threw everything in my 1969 Chevy. Put Mud Kings on, got stuck everywhere after that. My cousin went everywhere in 2 WD in his Toyota with 39 inch tires, super swampers go anywhere. Not cheap back then. Started breaking parts on his new 1987 Truck. Just 2 years old. Void warranty.

The front of the wrecker has a lot of extra weight, the bumper/winch is about 375lbs, and the Hummer tires/wheels on the front with the bead locks and run flats add about 200lbs each. not sure if want it any heavier :(
@offroadrecoveryteam12 жыл бұрын
The winch is hydraulic, with a belt driven pump, I was watching the bumper VERY close the whole time. the winch cable is 7/16" galvanized 6x19 with a steel core. I didn't use a snatch block because the winch wasn't even close to stalling out, I just needed to hold the truck from sliding.

I’m guessing the reason the other trucks failed was that the driver of the Chevy had no idea what direction his wheels where turned and had it full lock to the right, which explains why both front tires where flat and the right side front wheel was packed with mud. The twit didn’t think to steer in the direction he was being pulled.

I think of a few things before I punch it through a mudpit. 1. Can I Make it. 2. Will I Get stuck 3. Can my friends get me out. I've heard of people getting stuck, ditch the truck. come back 2 weeks later and find your truck on it side stripped of dana 44's and everything else that is of use. Too cool though nice wreckin rig.
