I have wondered that this entire series, I think Andrew is very independent, I just had a similar discussion with a mate, he bought a new new to him second hand 2012, V8 and had some brand new Enkei wheels he has had lying round for another project for years, expensive and rare, finally got the intended car and then went cheap on tires, tried to convince him otherwise, can’t see it, sometimes people just do there thing. Ya can be helpful that’s the intent, we all at times can be lead to water but often we won’t drink the water when it’s good for us. Still it’s been a great series and learnt heaps, ai can never understand though why they out dirty parts back, or don’t clean rust and other crap off housing etc, Im anal about shit like that.

Agree with you completely on lubricant's. But I've take it one step further. For older vehicles additives for the engine oil , power steering, Coolant, Transmission (auto), and possibly transfer case are a must add unless the vehicle is well under 100k miles on the odometer. As for carryings extra lubricants also agree carrying extra additives is not necessary.

Would be great to see a bargain build overland. Say for £10k buy and build the truck. It is easy to build something great when you get free parts but trying to find good budget parts and do it on a shoestring that is a real challenge. Would make a great series and possibly make over landing more accessible for people on a budget.

I think this a great video series, particularly for folks to get an overall idea of how to examine, maintain, and fix a used car and get it prepared for the bush. The only thing that is unfortunate is that I can only imagine how much the total cost will be between buying the vehicle, spending days in a shop, and then the price of all of those parts (for someone who isn't sponsored). Good build to watch though!

As a mechanic this is something that has always baffled me.. why would you schedule something that could possibly make you hurry?? Do you ask your heart surgeon to hurry up?? Lets bring our car to the mechanic 2 days before we leave on a 2000 mile trip, it then becomes the mechanic problem if something doesn't go right. That's when huge errors happen. DON'T RUSH YOUR MECHANIC YOUR JUST ASKING FOR DISASTER!

Diesel starters must be rated for continuous duty. If I ran a gasoline engine starter that long like they did in the preview for next episode it would have the starter so hot it would fry the grease inside and the cables would be overheating. Could be why my starter costs around $40 and that starter probably around $250.

What Rimula engine oil is that? You say that is 12lt of oil to the sump, so, there are differents 1hz with diferente sump size?? I have a HZJ73, always use Rimula R3x and always have the info that is 9.5lt for my engine.

@@alberttresslevic914 it's all a misconception that toyota is king of reliability etc. Fact is they are just as susceptible as any other vehicle if used off road and not maintained. I work on them and find these exact same problems if they've been used off road. Most days the workshop is full of them requiring all the usual repairs. People love them because they believe they are the greatest and continue to throw money at them.

Andrew, after adding thousands and thousands of dollars worth of brand new parts, why would you compromise to recore the old radiator? It does not make any sense to go to all the trouble and then fit a rebuilt old radiator. Only new original equipment from Toyota should have been used and I know you know that. Don’t even try to start explaining of it having metals tanks instead of the OE polymer tanks. You know there is absolutely nothing better than Toyota original radiator and you know you took a short cut on a critical part!
@lachlanhum5092

Why did you use dot 4 when it is common for dot 4 to cause damage to seals in brake systems of Toyota's where they specify dot 3. I understand dot 4 has a higher boiling point with better specs but Toyota is one of the few manafactures that reccoment only dot 3. This vehicle is not a 1970s car that came with dot 3 that can be upgraded to dot 4 as it is later technology, this is from 1999+ and Toyota say use dot 3.
@lachlanhum5092
@lachlanhum5092 5 жыл бұрын
For a marginal increase in temperature it's not worth the risk regardless of manafacturer. Let's be honest In the 1hz when you take your foot off the accelerator it practically stops, with selecting the correct gear and speed for the situation and replacing the brake fluid regularly so it doesn't increase boiling point from the moisture content dot 3 is fine. I think it's a 50 degrees difference with boiling points around 400 degrees.
