Hi. New to your vlog, not new to grinding live cash games (MTTs bother me; sitting with any less than 300bb pains me). Fantastic production and editing. However what I like most is finally seeing someone vlog who plays similar to my style. It’s an easier watch and I find myself proud of your thin-value overbets. I appreciate your graphic template you have setup for hands that weren’t streamed. Although appropriate, it’s still funny how your template is set up in a heads-up format. If possible, it would be helpful as a viewer to see stack sizes, or at least eff stack sizes on these recreated hands. First thing I look at when entering a pot against any opponent is stack size. Having this info for the hand-breakdown is paramount information IMO. Looking forward to more of your vlogs. Run well sir.

Bart is probably thinking that with 2 nines and 2 tens accounted for, he's blocking a bunch of the combos containing an 8. You would have to have specifically T8 or 98 of diamonds. Or 88. Or 87s, 3 combos. 11 combos total. And with the spade out there being a king, it cuts down on the number of backdoor spade combos you could have such as KQss. I don't know if he thinks you would ever play a one-pair hand in this way, but if you did, he could beat those-- maybe you have a partial of AA you decided to raise-call and now you're trying to squeeze value from his broadway hands. But I think the blocker effects are more important, if he isn't calling off with this hand, what better calls can he have. As you observed he rarely has an 8 to call down with, and he won't have backed into too many flushes either. Once he calls the turn he's also unlikely to have a king unless he has KK. That specific king is unfortunately a hard card to fire a third barrel on because either you give him great pot odds with a small bet or you have to fire large and polarize yourself to something better than one pair. A pair of kings is not a hand you would expect to be good very often if you make a bet and get called. King-queen is a decent double-barrel candidate but would you range-merge by firing big with one pair on the river, trying to get looked up by QQ or JJ? The fact that it's a spade is important but the fact that it's a king is sort of bricky. In Torelli-land, I would say, what is your value, assuming you are polarized? 98s, 88, T8, and various flushes. So like, 11 combos of straights and ten-ish combos of flushes. 21-25 value combos, to be generous. But how much missed broadway containing the ace of spades do you have? 3 each of AQ and AJ, plus 3 combos of busted QJs not diamonds, and any other crap you show up with that you decide to bluff with. (pocket fives!) Maybe you start up a bluff with Q9s, pick up equity, and decide the nine is no good. He needs to be shown a bluff 30% of the time, and you are right around there even if you don't add in any of that other creative crap. And if you would ever go ultra-thin value with one pair that's even more reason to call. Of course he's probably going to call you given his specific holding and its blocker properties even if you choose a large size, but because you have the nut advantage in having all the straights and even more flushes (he has more big pairs that by definition can't make flushes, and more AKo because you 4-bet that) you might want to leverage this nut advantage by really dropping the hammer on the river. That lets you have more bluffs and still be balanced. If you make it $10,000 is he calling? this is easy for me to suggest that you do, since I make $10/hr playing $1/$2. You go bluff Bart Hanson with a massive size, you pussy.

It's just unfortunate for Mariano that Bart happened to have what he had, a hand that blocks a lot of 8s. That said, if he shoved instead of just bet 5k, Bart would probably have to fold but who knows. T9 is like the best hand to bluff catch with there.

He could bet less, say $8.5 K, but in the end he puts villain in a very tough spot, if he moves all in. Given the circumstances, table image, this move should be considered, yes.

Think the AJ hand is perfect spot to jam, you block nut flush and QJ, the size you bet isn’t really all that effective against any sets or 2 pair Bart has and jamming kinda just bins those hands.

That’s not how poker works. Ranges do get narrower with every action, but this has nothing to do with the credibility of the story. Sure, sets wouldn’t value bet the river with this large size. But he is uncapped, whereas Bart isn’t. Great call by Bart, calling with two pair is not easy here. Vs population in general it’s a mistake, i’m sure.

I did not say you are a bad poker player by the way, i just pointed out that your reasoning is flawed. No need to get butthurt, let’s discuss strategy instead. Your original comment makes no sense. Mariano was playing his range here, as all good players do. By the river he was only really representing a flushdraw that got there, you are right about that. Maybe he could value bet a straight there, given Bart’s light call it’s probably not a bad idea. IP you can put a lot of pressure on the 3bettor on this board so there is no point in checking with a flushdraw here at any point. Thus, the story is more than credible. River spots are highly polarized anyways. I highly recommend checking out CLP. Bart himself said in the analysis of this hand that the real mistake here was sizing. Mariano should have bet the turn larger so he could get the money in easier by the river. Or just overbet jam the river. Bart stated that he only called because of the relatively decent price. And Bart is definitely capped here. Not preflop, but his range does get more and more capped every street. There is no way he plays the top of his range as pure x/c x/c here. He does make sure that his call down range is reasonably protected, for sure. But when you compare both ranges and the lines taken it’s clear that Mariano has a higher % of nutted hands here.

@@MarianoPoker Here's the math, tell me what you disagree with: 1.) You had 23% chance of filling-up on the river. 2.) However, only three of your outs were a (virtually) guaranteed win. The jack. 3.) Consequently, 16% of your equity (which is comprised from filling-up with the 7 or the 9) loses 23% of it's value (because your nemesis has a 9/40 chance of having a ten in his hand.) 4.) After you take that into consideration, you REAL equity going to the river is 19%. Basically 4-1. 5.) Yes, "real odds" going to the river would require about 30% equity, (2k to call, and there would be 6.5k in pot, after you call) but implied odds, with the 7k remaining in his stack, gives you 7-1 (assuming you're going/calling an all-in every time you boat-up.) 6.) Okay, but sometimes, as we've discussed, when you "boat-up," you're STILL going to be behind. So, now that 2k just cost you an additional 7k (the remaining chips in his stack.) -9k net, 16% of the time. (Chances of you having 6's full of 7's, or 9's, and him having 10's.) 7.) But, 84% of the time, your full boats will be good. So, that 2k just won you 14k. 84% of the time, when you fill-up, that 2k wins you 14k. 8.) Now, you must subtract your losses from your winnings x ( Equity.) Like so, 14k(.86) - 9k(.16) = 10.3k That's 5.15 to 1. In that specific situation, I think the implied odds are almost certainly going to be the remainder of his stack.
