James Larson with Audioholics recently reviewed the 1723 towers and gave them a 5 star rating for bass extension. He said he didn't think a subwoofer was necessary.

you can place any speaker for more bass or more soundstage. and room type or size also matters. the it depends on the bass extension you want or are used to.

that's because these clowns plugged the ports and complained about weak bass. LOL

Look at the frequency response provided by Arendal on their website and it will tell you everything you need to know about the bass response. Unless you think Arendal 's measurements aren't accurate.
@GianiPerr-gj5nd
@GianiPerr-gj5nd Ай бұрын
@@DailyHiFi "Frequency response does not reflect maximum output but shows its true response in a anechoic chamber. Typically you will see an elevated response in the bass response below 40Hz in room due to room gain, which can add around 6dB pr. octave under 40Hz depending on the size of your room." You clearly have an agenda against Arendal Sound. Perhaps they didn't pay to play with your channel?

I have a new pair of Arendal 1723 Towers and despite my room being less than ideal, I am getting bass down to 30hz before it starts dropping off although it is still audible at 20hz. Note, I have one port plugged.

I purchased a pair of OG Prime Pinnacles since they are on clearance, and have been impressed by their honest low bass capabilities and smooth top end. They also project a decent size soundstage with depth to boot. Way to go SVS! You should take the OG Prime Pinnacle towers for a spin Erin. They just might be better than their latest series.

Why don't companies like SVS have their own measurement equipment? I know it's not cheap but seems like they could afford it if Erin can. Seems like they should have all the measurements that Erin has and they should have dyno test results for amps.

There seems to be some apprehension around not giving SVS the glowing review. I'm glad Erin has the integrity to tell it like it is. I mean obviously he's allowed to have a favorite. It just seems like the group is tentative when it comes to svs. I mean they say they don't expect svs to respond badly but you can tell there's something there. As far as the bookshelf goes, the cheap audio man says he loved them. The next tower down was reviewed by Andrew Robinson and he loved those. It would be interesting to hear SVS's response to Erin's review. I think they wasted money with a cabinet design that only some people like so it could have been cheaper but bad measurements are bad measurements.

Kef has slow bass in their full lineup. It's slow, as in time. It lags behind the rest of the presentation. How come no one talks about that? It gets nothing but praise from everyone. I'm not a the fan of the slow bass on them. SVS gets a bad name, Kef should get one too. They have many underlying issues too.
@sudd3660

@@dicmccoy i think that most reviewers have not heard time aligned bass, it is all ports, radiators, subwoofers with dsp delay and so on. then the speakers are built to have more bass so the reviews get good score, not for pure out sound quality and less bass, because more bass gives the impression of better sound.
@DailyHiFi
@DailyHiFi Ай бұрын
Because any sub that uses DSP does have delay. They're expected to be used with a system that can properly delay the main speakers to accommodate. Only REL doesn't use DSP, but they also don't dig very deep. If you can't delay your mains, then use REL. But for everyone else, use something else.

The problem with Mofi for use in home theater is they don't have a center channel

You flip a source point 8 on its side and it is a center channel. Andrew Jones considered the speaker on its side for Center channel usage during design.

Who bent speakers first? Anyway, don't these companies get their own data before sending them off to guys like Erin only to find less than stellar results? Really enjoy all of your channels and this one for sure. I have 25yr old B&W DM-602 on stands, lol! Sounds great! Want to borrow one for some data?

I wouldnt buy the 1723, when the 1528 is right around the corner. Not that anything is wrong with 1723, but its gotten 2 price increases, due to inflation and its priced it self out of budget of what it was designed for, in my opinion. If considering the svs titan, with its 2024 price tag, then I would only cross shop the 1528 new tower thats coming out and priced for 2024, rather than an old product.

I recently got a pair of 1723s. I was also looking at SVS Pinnacles but they are imported by a third party into Australia so after exchange rates and importer and dealer charges, the SVS were $11,499aud RRP while the Arendals came to just under $7000aud. Also, Erin's review of the SVSs made the choice easier.

@@brooklynknightss Isn't it true that there's a difference between being honest about the pros and cons, and setting out to overhype the cons as well. I don't see any of their products as horrible. Maybe overpriced depending on the product, but not outright garbage. If they were, then I would have no problem saying they're trash, but I don't think they are. Most of their products are pretty good. Especially their subs. Their speakers are too bright for my taste because I think there's a directivity issue related to surface-mounting the tweeter, which I've told them about already.
