I don't think I've seen any American make mashed potatoes quite like that! My folks don't bother peeling them or pushing them through a sieve, and we definitely don't use quite that much butter for such a relatively small amount of potatoes. Yours look heavenly, though, like everything else you cook!

I think so too. Even in Japan, no one uses that much butter at one time lol I think it is because he used mashed potatoes instead of sauce this time.

this is an old comment but the mashed potato he made is a french style mash. They make it extra smooth and go HEAVY on the butter.

Mashed butter with potato stirred in is truly the best mashed potato.
7:32 Holy cow, man, those are some tiny russet potatoes. IDK how big they are on average where you live, but down here in the southern US, the average russet potato starts off as big as your entire hand from wrist to fingertip, not just the fingers. Even yukon golds or red potatoes start as big as those you have there, if not bigger. A fair trade, though. Our green onions/scallions start VERY tiny compared to how big they get over where you live.
