Thanks for the review. Everything I previously saw in this bag made me want to purchase one. If it wasn't for watching the auction sites trying to find one at a really low price I would already own one. Fortunately for me... I came across your review of the Rush 72 and learned that it was uncomfortable for a 6 ft. tall man. Since I'm 6'2" - 220lbs I don't think I will be buying on now. Again... thank you. Thanks for the gear review. I appreciate that right in the beginning of the review you covered the cons of the pack, for example the height restrictions on the waist belt. That was my biggest fear, I myself being 6' and having seen technical bags before where the waist belts ride too high for them to be effective in relieving weight from the shoulders. I really wanted to get this bag because of the other features to use for backpacking trips over the weekends but if I can't carry the weight it's a deal breaker. Thanks again for a great review and not dragging the review on endlessly.

I’m 5’11” (ironic that I also like 5.11 gear) and I love my Rush 72 I added stuff to the MOLLE on the back, side, and both shoulder straps and my gear totals to about 36 lbs. It is very comfortable for me, I had to move the sternum strap down one MOLLE stop from what it came in, but after I did that, it as comfortable as can be.

awesome review. im 5'9" and it fits perfect. i would recomend adding a folding shovel and maybe consider some vacuum bags. i bought some from harbor freight, put my change of clothes in there and other various items, vac it down and its very compressed and keeps them fresh.

Thanks for doing this review. I’m 6ft and intended on buying this bag. I also intended on carrying a bit of weight in it. I won’t be buying it now. It’s a huge bag and doesn’t make sense to pack it lightly. I already have smaller packs for that. I also have a hiking pack that is padded and fits me so I guess this one isn’t needed.

This is probably the best review of this of this bag anywhere. All reviews should use this as a template for how to explain and demonstrate an item meant to be worn on the body. I'm 6'1" and own one, and couldn't figure out why it was so uncomfortable. You give an excellent break down of the pouch/pocket sizes and abilities, again, something for which there is precious little actual info floating around, as well as providing a very good load out and commentary. Well done!

At 5"7 with a 30 inch inseam, this is great...Glad they love short guys. Have hiked for fun and conditioning with this pack and it is awesome. Hope to do some section hiking on the AT, Benton McKaye and Bartram this coming spring and summer with it.Great load plan for backpackers and preppers.

Within the first few minutes, you make a hell of a point. I'm 6' and I weigh a lot more than you. This bag sits very high on my shoulders. But I still love it. Haven't figured out everything I'm going to put in it yet, so I haven't had a chance to walk with it for a long period of time. But you're probably right about all the weight being on the shoulders.

it's good you mentioned the lack of shoulder adjustment and how uncomfortable it is in the beginning (when I set the weight on my waist I have to loosen the shoulder straps enough that the pack hangs off my upper back so much that it's pointless). It's the main reason I wouldn't recommend it other than for what it's worth, eg a well-organized short distance A-to-B kind of pack. Good review btw

I'd what he's talking about with it being made for smaller guys. I'm 6'2" 200# and it fits me great. The waist strap does what it's supposed to on me. My $0.02

Hi Thomas Bowden, What you are talking about is the little sternum strap that you can adjust. There is no yoke adjustment. Thanks for watching.

You could try putting the blanket in a waterproof sleeping bag bag and fastex clip it to the front/top or bottom of the bag. It will give you plenty more space in the bag and it will stay dry.

Great review. I currently have the the ILBE large pack (70 Litre ?). Its gargantuan, but I love it and find it fits perfect, but I was considering the 5.11 Rush 72 for another, smaller pack. I'm 6 foot tall myself and thanks to your review about the inability for that pack to fit our heights properly, I'm going to have to look elsewhere. I've owned this exact bag for over a year, walking around for about 2 hours per day with it, and it is definitely not designed for load bearing. It is designed for organization. I am 5 foot 8 inches tall. It is comfortable over short distances with a light to moderate gear pack. It makes a great book bag for school, though its overkill for EDC applications. I don't recommend this bag for an INCH or bug-out application. I've walked 5 miles in the heat with this and its bigger brother, the ALS 84 (the paramedic version) and my back and shoulders are KILLING ME after 2-3 hours walking in 90 degree heat with a 50lb load. Not bug out-able. It is my hybrid EDC-GetHome bag.

Also I should add that the stitching on the neck collar of the shoulder harness, one of the diagonal stitch lines which links the cordura with the lighter/smoother nylon back padding material has come undone in only 1 year of moderate urban use with a relatively heavy load. My INCH and bugout setups now use the Eberlestock bags for load-bearing GTFO scenario packing.

Great review. Liked how you did the side-by-side with the smaller version. You're accent is funny, in a good way. You didn't mention that the sternum strap is vertically adjustable. This is important, as many bags have the strap too high. Still great video. I like how you edited it, instead of keeping in the parts where you probably rambled on. 0:55 Good point re height/torso length, etc. but not all guys are built alike. Some have longer legs/shorter back and some the other way around. The best thing of course is to try one on.

Hi, Thanks for a great review. Like many tactical packs the hip belt is high to accommodate a military belt kit. I know this doesn't help the fit but it is a fact. Most 'civilian' packs will be lower if adjusted/sized correctly. Respect from a UK viewer.

I have the same problem with this pack not being tall enough. I'm 6'2", and the waist belt needs to come down about 4 or 5 inches. Awesome bag though, so far that's the only issue I've had

If you read these comments, here is one that might just help, they make compression bags, if you can't find one the right size take a poncho ( military ) will work and some Para cord and wrap the blanket with the poncho and squeeze the air out and tie it down.

Brilliant review. So many bags out there are designed for the average man for sure. Not much flexibility. If you loosen the shoulder straps to lower the bag so that it rides on your hips then the sternum strap chokes you.

A lot of backpacking backpacks have these thin straps that go from the top of the pack, to the top of your straps. They really help pull the weight closer to you. I was wondering if you a. Attached those (simple mod), them wore it lower so the waist belt fit at the right spot, (maybe) it would fit close to your back, whole stool being low with so the straps fit. Either way, thanks for the review. I'll be making a trip to my closest store to try it out before pulling the trigger. (I'm 5'10, maybe with a half in there)

Why don't you lower the straps until the waist belt rides on the hips? You can adjust the sternum strap to make up for lowering the bag. Am I missing something?

Thanks for the great review! Do you have a proportionally long torso or something? Because 3" more in height does not equal 3" more of torso length, normally that is distributed between torso and legs with larger portion being in the legs. But there are people with longer than "normal" torso proportion. Maybe you fit into that category? Would you recommend the 72hr bag over say a bag with an internal frame? Hey, thanks for the comment and question. I am a 17" torso. I have purchased a kelty internal frame pack that is awesome. It is the kelty 4000. I will be doing a review on it soon. It is night and day comfort wise between it and the rush 72. However the rush 72 is really hard to be when it comes to organization. Plus it is a very tough bag. i still use it for short trips on a 4-wheeler or to rough around with, but never to carry on my back for a long distance.

If you actually have a helmet in it, i think it would be sticking out a lot and might be uncomfortable for you. If you don't have much stuffed in the helmet pocket i think you would be fine.

+Ruggada Hey. There are several good alternatives out there. One particulary that I have enjoyed is teh Kelty falcon 4000. Look through my videos and I have a review on it. It is a little bigger 65 liters, but an awesome bag. You can take the top off and it is even smaller. The other bag I have enjoyed is the Kelty Redwing 50. I am going to do a review on that one soon. It is not as tactical and is not cordura but has been really tough and it is inexpensive.

The rush 24 is very comfortable. It does not have a belt strap. It would carry easily what you are saying. Depending on how many mags and forearms you are talking about. It is roomy. The 72 will do that and more because it is bigger. The 24 for the price is hard to beat
