Thanks for posting this. On June 1, I will be commemorating the 2nd anniversary of the Springfield, MA tornado. Destroyed a neighborhood that was built before the civil war. Houses for 1820's lost forever. Still hurts to remember..

I trust you are not saying that out of envy. It's just a climate thing. The Sahara desert doesn't have very much rain. The tropics seem to have lots of rain. It never seems to snow in Mexico, but Switzerland gets a lot of snow. The north pole never gets hot.

Just to be certain, I also referenced the Oxford Dictionary. It is both a noun and an adjective. I would say we were both right, but you said I used it incorrectly in the first place, which would make you wrong. No more arguing, if you can't accept that you were mistaken, then you will never learn...

I admit that Oxford lists the word as a noun, but it does so only because the word's meaning has changed since its inception back in ancient Greece. People began using it as a noun for various reasons, but its roots clearly indicate that it is actually an adjective. Oxford also lists "truthiness" as a real word, despite the fact that its not. Dragging dictionaries and condescending language into an argument doesn't prove you are correct.

I am not admitting error because there is no error. I simply don't understand why you seem to think that the etymology of a word is less important than the modern definition of the word. The etymology of something is absolute, whereas definitions change from generation to generation. I already admitted that I am rejecting the modern usage in favor of the origin because I feel it is more appropriate. Dictionaries do NOT dictate "proper" use, only "modern" use. In that context, I am right.

Merriam-Webster is defining the word based off of how people use it but the word itself has Greek roots and its translation is literally "without belief". That translation is not a noun but rather an adjective unless you believe that "without belief" is a person, place or thing, so yes Merriam-Webster is wrong, and no there is plenty of help for me despite that. So, yes, there is such a thing as an agnostic atheist, as well as a gnostic atheist, agnostic theist and gnostic theist.

Wikipedia the term "agnostic" and scroll down to the section: "Defining agnosticism" AND "Etymology". I think you will understand our disagreement better after reading that. And, to your earlier point, no- condescending attitudes are NOT necessary. They only waste space by adding nothing relevant or new to any argument.

Too bad tree rings and ice cores don't show the timeline differences between additional carbon and temperature fluctuations, all they do is show carbon levels, at an approximated point in time? Have you read the tea leaves, what do they tell you? I haven't checked my tarot cards, maybe there is something in there. Just kidding, I don't have tarot cards. I guess I have to repeat myself, correlation does not equal causation. And currently, carbon levels and temperatures are at odds with you.

If separate from the parent trunk tornado tornado cloud is gone. To do this, the Soviet Union developed special guns that were to shoot this barrel tornado. If you look at the tornado from inside it looks like a bearing. many twisted into bundles of vortices in a cut form the bearing separate the strands of fueling their parent cloud we stop a tornado.

Sorry, but that is incorrect. This isn't a courtroom where the burden of proof is on somebody. Atheists do not believe in a deity, theists do. Both sides create an argument just by choosing their respective positions. By being an atheist, that person makes a stand which they must justify. The same applies to the theist. With no evidence for either argument, the only logical choice is to be agnostic. Does this help?
@GraphicGranite11 жыл бұрын
"Agnostic" is an adjective whereas "Atheist" and "Theist" are nouns. "Agnostic" basically means "uncertain" so calling yourself an agnostic makes no sense unless you define what it is you are uncertain about. Me, I'm an agnostic atheist which means I am without belief in God whilst still admitting the possibility of his existence, however unlikely. Now, can we get back to the tragedy of this tornado? I think theists, atheists and agnostic "whatevers" can at least agree on that much.

Lol, I don't think you can be farther off, Chuck. I am agnostic only because I truly don't know, because nobody knows. I used to identify as athiest, because the idea of a loving God that allows children to die in horrible ways is too ridiculous to begin to entertain. But I can't prove that there isn't a God, anymore than I can prove there is one, so that leaves me with agnosticism. I must say that I am content in my beliefs.

Interesting that your position is what it is, as CO2 vs Temperature graphs show that historical temperature increases happening BEFORE CO2 levels increase (happening on average 600 years before). Weird that science would disagree with you. Is it possible that science disagrees with you because you are just repeating what people tell you and not actually looking at this data yourself? I think it might be. When you are done repeating people, look up sun irradiance effect on temperature. Enjoy
@spliffbear25011 жыл бұрын
To summarize, you have a one-track argument, and nobody, including climate scientists, can agree that there is even a train on your track. I also find it amusing that you rejected my proposed theory on solar irradiance out of hand, by calling it internet science. You really should read the book "State of Fear" by Michael Crichton. I know you probably won't, research doesn't seem to be your thing, but I think it would really put some things into perspective. Gotta think for yourself, dude...

I will just for the sake of peace admit that I am being a bit anal about this. However, I think there's good reason for it. In the same way religious people cannot come up with a single definition of "God", atheists cannot come up with a definition of their beliefs that narrows down what it really means to be an atheist. It can be done, though, only if we use the word "agnostic" the way it was originally intended. That's why I am the way I am.

I disagree, condescension is an inherent human characteristic most often employed when dealing with children, or in this case, a stubborn person. The real waste here is of my time, and having to explain things to you over and over as if you were mentally challenged. My favorite part is how you completely accept the THEORY, and it is only a theory, of "global warming" as fact, even though climate scientists, which you say are all in agreement, are in fact at odds with each other as to the cause

"global warming" is in quotes for a reason. Yes, I was wrong in admitting I didn't use the phrase- I did use the phrase because you used the phrase. You used it because you differentiate between climate change and anthropogenic climate change (what you and the media call "global warming"). My point was still valid- not that it matters. You're obviously not interested in debate. I've seen your other comments on other videos to confirm my suspicions. Respond again if you wish- I'm done.

Must be easy to go through life never being wrong, huh? What's that like? I wouldn't know, because I find it easy to admit my mistakes. I don't let pride get in the way of fact, and the fact remains that I am correct in my use of the word "agnostic", just as the fact remains that you were wrong to call my usage of it incorrect. Neither Thomas Huxley nor Merriam-Webster are responsible for providing correct language usage. The origin of the word itself is what actually matters. Huxley began using the word (incorrectly) as a noun simply because he was unsure what to call himself. He did what you are accusing me of: inventing language. I am doing what you (incorrectly) say you are: hanging out in reality, being rational. The word is an adjective- reread my comment prior to yours to find out why.

I know what you meant. To add to my comments below- ice cores and tree rings do not agree with your hypothesis. Again, you accuse me of repeating- except I am not. I advise you NOT to look at data, but rather metadata, which is much more reliable. Metadata and proper statistical analysis leads to anthropogenic causes, not solar. This is what experts are saying. Naysayers will show graphs "proving" otherwise, but look at the metadata and you will see problems with their analyses.

Well, this quote is not going to convince me, it is also the most potent force for christians ever conceived. But in your post I referred to you started out with the overwhelming evidence that God doesn't exist bringing examples of rising Sun. Now you are saying it is the people, but neither of it is disproving God. Yes, there were a lot of misconceptions (and still are) made by religious people,but you get that view on christians, because (I guess) you are only recognizing the wrong statements.
@GraphicGranite11 жыл бұрын
You're referring to the hypothesis that sunspot activity has contributed to most if not all of the warming. The problem is twofold: 1) there is no way to measure sunspot activity backwards in time prior to the telescope, thus there is no way to validate this hypothesis. 2) the data doesn't fit it despite what you say. You accuse me of "repeating" and not looking at the data- except climate scientists look at the data- and they are all in agreement. Just not with you. Perhaps you are "repeating".

This "burden of proof" thing is very silly to me. If you choose to deny God (and I don't say this joyfully), then so be it. At death, or the coming of Christ there will be a judgement day. Either eternal salvation in Christ, or eternal separation in everlasting contempt. I'm glad I turn my heart to God one day (back in 1986), and will do what I can to share that hope with others.

You are arguing with the people who are responsible for providing correct language usage to everybody who wishes to speak English. You are also arguing with all the people, including Thomas Huxley (who coined the term), who identify themselves as agnostics. If you think you are more correct than all those people, than I cannot have a discussion with you. You are beyond reason, and I wish you the best in establishing your new language. I'm going to hang out here in reality, seems rational.

@spliffbear25011 жыл бұрын
Well, here I must disagree, dragging dictionaries into a discussion about the proper use of a word does indeed prove that I am correct. In fact, that's the only way to prove who is correct. I don't care if you think I'm condescending, I feel that you are wrong, and are trying to end the argument without having to admit your error. You were wrong, admit it. Moving onto your new gaffe, atheism is defined as denying the existence of any and all deities. That's the definition, case closed.

About 20 tornadoes occurred in the immediate vicinity of Moore from 1890 to 2013. The deadliest one was in 1999. Of the 20, five (5) have been in the past 15 years. We are in the last days. Romans 8:22 "For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now." I'm not sure this verse is actually speaking of earth, but it makes since to think God's crown jewel of creation is man, who sins against Him is creating all this mess because of rebellion. Just a thought.
