5.2 magnitude quake rattles the Southland

How do you get a warning in advance? The only thing I can come up with is distance. If the alert goes out immediately without delay the second the earthquake strikes and I reiterate the second it strikes only then would the alert be received perhaps before the earthquake wave reaches a specific area farther away……

Crazy!! Dreamed I was lying in the back of our pick up truck, looking up at the rear window. Opened my eyes to see the old venetian blinds going crazy, then my dad coming in to get me but he had to hang on to the walls to walk. Never forget that one or the Northridge quake with so many aftershocks.

And 21 hours later I'm still getting notifications on my phone with multiple other quakes (or aftershocks) since then, I haven't counted them but I've gotten at least 20 different notifications between the first one And the one I got about 20 minutes ago, I also just heard that they do a lot of fracking in Grapevine! Now I'm really curious to find if they're currently still doing active fracking at these points!!🤔

It was most likely worse than 5.2 There were several stations that were over 6. The USGS reduced it to 5.2. Some independent seismologists are trying to understand why the USGS would do that.

Santa Barbara Trader Joe’s parking lot on de la vina. They close at 9pm. I had just gotten in the driver’s seat, my phone alerted me and the ground was swaying! Luckily, no tall trees, no tall street lamps, no electric cables overhead. That’s the first thing I’m looking for - to get away from anything that could fall on me. I’ll look for that in advance before I park now! By the way, Santa Barbara had a month of earthquakes and mudslides in December 1812 AND an enormous tsunami. It went over three miles inland (they can travel 10 miles inland!). There were only Chumash living on the beach then. It was under Spanish rule. Now the beachfront has hotels, the funk zone, a college, a harbor, a wharf, thousands of tourists and locals will be caught in a traffic jam trying to escape.

Make it a routine thing: Go to your local city council and county supervisors meetings to get that answer. Take notes. Read Roberts Rules of Order...the parliamentary procedure has been around a very long time, so if you want your questions answered, you have to follow the Rules of Order...when you see how your tax dollars are being spent, you won't feel like you are being "taxed so much." Just by listening at the meetings, you might not have any questions because they might be answered in due time. BTW, 80 percent of the nation's fire departments are volunteer. They don't fight fires for free. Members who are on call or on duty get a stipend; if they actually answer a fire call they get a little bit more. They also don't buy their own gear in general. Districts raise money via a number of fundraising efforts, which includes state and federal allotments, grants, and donations to pay for everything from a fire truck to hoses to the hard hats and fire coats and pants they wear. They also get their training through tax dollars. So if you want to know where does your tax dollar goes, next time you see a building go up in flames, you can feel honored that you contributed to the lives of those who want to help others in the wake of a fire disaster.

That's what i thought the Northridge 5.8 earthquake in 1987 felt like at first, but then it became obvious it was an earthquake as the rough shaking went on for about a long minute. We had a 4.9 aftershock (lots of smaller ones) a night later that was a rolling one. I live in Oklahoma now, and we had a 5.4 earthquake about nine years ago. That was wild, considering the location. Caused by fracking.
