Smart man. I live in east Kentucky where tornadoes are relatively rare but the last few years of major tornadoes hitting west Kentucky have convinced me more and more to build a tornado shelter. I’ve been thinking about it for years and every year I’m more scared that our luck will run out. Doubt I can get it done by next spring but I’m gonna do he dirt work this summer and start getting the materials ready over fall and winter.

@@charlesbrown4483tornadoes have always happened anywhere east of the Rockies. Anyone between the rocky and Appalachian mountains should be aware of the weather and have some plan for tornadoes. But local myths of tornadoes not hitting from the terrain turn people away from that. People say there’s no tornadoes because of the mountains. As of this weekend there has been 3 significant tornadoes in the area since 2019. And this is the first one that’s killed people.

@@thebjm1967 And what’s even scarier is that this season COULD have been way worse. We actually got very lucky for the first 2 big storm systems early in tornado season, one in the Ohio Valley and the other in tornado alley. Both were HUGE systems that could’ve produced major outbreaks but mostly just fizzled out. End of the season picked up big time but still as strange as it is to say this year could’ve been much worse.

When the house AND the basement is blown to bits, that's an EF5 for sure. Glad these folks had a storm shelter.
@chrismaverick9828
@chrismaverick9828 Ай бұрын
EF-5 requires foundations to be swept clean of bricks, beams, everything, along with even the ground being scoured mostly clear. At most they'll rate this a 4 but more likely a 3. It's not uncommon for a house to collapse into a basement in a tornado.
@codyraines6908
@codyraines6908 Ай бұрын
Lol, literally had a debris signature on reflectivity that was on the extreme end. Correlation coefficient showed debris being lofted 30,000+ ft, and the velocities had the spiraling apperarance during peak intensity. The tornado was on the ground for 1 hour or more. The tornado didn't hit any heavy population areas but it was definitely at least an EF4.

I live about an hour north of here in Southern Illinois and at about 7 PM (sun still peeking in and out) my lights started to flicker which I thought was strange because storms hadn't really entered our area they were just kind of getting started. Then lo and behold as I'm watching a KZbin weather Watcher they start posting pictures from literally 10 miles up the road from me of a huge tornado which looked very close to the size of this one I couldn't believe it! Apparently it was only on the ground for just a minute or two but from the pictures of it that I saw it was huge and I'm still trying to see if anyone another 20 miles up the road from me suffered damage from that thing because it was a monster. Once those storms started popping up they weren't playing and they started dropping tornadoes right away. I'm still sitting here in the dark some 9 hours 12 hours after the storms came through hopefully we'll have power but these folks my heart just goes out to them.

I have question if someone could answer: My family and others I know can take some wood, no matter the type, and build something with it. It is sad to see trees go through shredders after storms like this. Is there any resources for these storms to "recycle" these trees? Can be used for those who have to rebuild. When I hear people say, and many times, they built their own homes or even their safe room for the storm. It would be shame to let those trees just go to waste. Years of standing and taken down in a minute... Growing up in Illinois, my grandparents-and this was years ago-made something as reminder of beloved tree that stood for years and also to rebuild stairs...and even a house. It is a sad place we live on now. 400 tornados in such a short time. I am 64 and I got scared to death when I was a kid and there were 2 at once. 2. Love to all.

I was born and raised down the road about 15 miles away in CALDWELL COUNTY and that entire area is under a CURSE ! I moved to MONTANA and it ain't much better weather wise . I believe storms are ramping up more as time progresses !😮

My dream is to be uber rich where i can follow these disasters around and help folks out. The scale of damage is so big though, and im still not wealthy but hey thats why its my "dream." That would be so much fun, i can think of nothing better. Id have the worlds biggest dog sanctuary plus do what i just described. Come on powerball!!! 😂
