@@HunterM430 Not hard but time consuming, I'd pull trans and motor as an assembly, Bell housing bolts are a pain and require dropping trans down to get to them. Rock Auto best place to order your parts.

Nicely Done! Ive been trying to figure ut how to pull my LS engine from my 2007 Silverado. Didnt think I could do it with my 2 ton HF Crane but you did. Removing the oil pan for clearance a great idea....and I didnt think of that..because??? I'll pull my tires and maybe put on some junk rims to lower it more or maybe sit the hubs on blocks of wood. Nicely done, will watch the rest.

i read the comments, about 30 minutes and 15 or so bolts you could have pulled the center upper cross member the radiator bolts too and not even touch the hood, with the center section removed the front would have been wide open, remove the plugs and just zip tie the headers over to the side and it will slip right out with out having to raise the boom so high.

Lol had the same thing happen to me. Went to pull the engine in my K5. Engine hoist wouldn’t go high enough. Ended up letting the air completely out of both front tires. Way easier than removing the oil pan and flywheel!

Lol I thought about doing that but wasnt sure if I had enough sidewall to drop it down far enough. Think I'm just going to take the wheels off and lower it down on jack stands when I drop the new engine in.

Me two" 6" suspension 3 inch body lift, 93 Chevy had to take wheels off completely and set on some 4in concrete blocks, tough part is no shop, concrete pad outside just big enough to put cherry picker on, then ratchet strap truck out of the way once motor is lifted, Can you imagine the comments if I made a video.

For future reference, just remove the front wheels and lower the front end to get the engine to clear the radiator support. Quicker and easier than pulling stuff off and having to put it back on while its hanging in the engine bay.

When you mentioned not being able to clear the radiator support with the lift, you should of let the air out of your front tires. Just a tip that is usually overlooked.

Sorry for the late reply but you can most definitely put a 5.3 in a 2500, everything swaps right over. I would use the alternator from the 6.0 for sure, thats what I put on my engine. You are going to lose a good bit of power going through that 4l80 transmission with the 5.3 though.

Took me a bit longer because I didn't have everything completely ready, if its just a swap and no modifications 6-8 hours. Set 10 hours aside incase of seized bolts and fun things like that.

Wheels are Hostile Alpha 20x12 and the tires are Nitto 420s 305/50/20

Were the chunks pieces of lifter? Had a 2010 that exploded pieces off of lifter around where the roller is, looked similar

I'm almost 100% sure that those were lifter chunks. I need to do the tear down video still.

@@MitchCarveth yeah the needle bearings in the roller on mine gave out and the roller had about 1/8" of roll out, at which point the roller decided to clearance itself within the lifter housing 🤣🤣

If you would took the 2 front tires off your truck you probably could of dropped it 16 inches... when I pulled my 2004 Chev 6.0 I lifted it and did all the bottom removal then dropped the lower A-frames on a 4x4... really low to do all the top work...

Mine is worst case and i kinda did it to myself by not changing it out when i first started hearing it, plus i was smashing on it pretty good going up hill when it seized so im sure thats why it exploded lol If yours starts to become more consistent after being warmed up i would maybe remedy that before it gets too bad. That being said i still got a good amount of life out of mine while it was going bad.

I had to use a flex head ratcheting wrench along with my fingers. The one that kicked my ass the most was the bolt the trans dipstick was mounted to.

Nothing from the 4wd, the engine just has a small harness that runs along the oil pan to the starter and a couple sensors.

Looks like a bitch solo. Removed pan also, removed the 35" tires on our 05 with a 6" lift, then had to climb and lift up on flywheel while son jacked it up and pulled it out. Everyone cut a piece of plywood to cover and protect the radiator before pulling.

You could've just jacked the front up, took the front wheels off and lowered it onto Jack stands instead of doing all that Xtra work just so the engine would clear the rad support
