Answering some of the most commonly asked questions I get about my truck and the 5.3L to 6.2L engine swap. This is a 2012 GMC Sierra 1500 with the 6l80 transmission.

thats bad azz i have a 2000 gmc sierra 5.3 and in about 5 years i was thinking about doing the swap to a 6.2 ls3 when it becomes a classic

Pretty cool truck , i put a transfercase and front axle on my mothers handicap fullsize van , i got the 6l80e and the 6.2 LS9 to replace her 5.3 4l60e when its ready , its still running decent so far ..

I did the same with my 2009 crew cab but went with a actual LS3. I paid 3k for the low mileage engine, and about 3k for my shop to install it with a btr stage 2 truck cam. My 5.3 had 180000 and luckily a guy paid me $1700 for it because it was aluminum block and he was having trouble finding one so I came out pretty good. My 6l80e torque convertor burnt out quickly after the 6.2 install so I just got done spending $5100 on Perforformance build tranny and a circle D 2800 triple disc billet convertor. It runs like raped ape now and gets a great 11 MPG. 😂 I would like to thank These guys for the inspiration to get the swap done.

That's awesome to hear! I sold my stock engine to a couple of guys building a drag car for $2200 since it only had 58k miles on it. I wanted to go with an actual LS3 as well but was too intimidated and decided to go with an engine that was in the same truck. My truck is now putting a very healthy 380hp to the ground, do you know what yours is putting down?

mncarguy cool man mine is putting down 376 hp and 373 torque with a mild 91 octane tune, BTR stage 2 truck cam, 1 3/4” ARH long tubes, cat less Y into Corsa cat back and K&N CAI. Plan on adding the flex fuel soon along with a LSA blower and 410 gears. The only thing we did to make the ls3 work is swap out the ls3 intake out for one off your model 6.2, plug a vacuum port on the valley cover that the ls3 has and the other engines don’t and take my 5.3 4x4 oil pan off and put it on the LS3 engine. It’s only got a slight compression bump and lighter valves though compared to your truck engine so I would of been happy with ethier one but was aiming for a ls3

Buy a tuner and delete AFM as soon as you can or do the cam / lifter / spring swap to fully delete

I’m currently building a 6.2 for my Silverado. Texas Speed forged internals for a roots supercharger and yes I’m going to be bullet proofing the heads. Thanks for the extra boost of confidence for a bolt on fit. Now my wife believes me that it will just bolt on 😂

Have done the came swap in my avalanche. Upgrade ur fuel system before u do the supercharger. I did a whipple n even with 35s I got 630 hp on a mustang dyno so that's a lil low compared to other dynos

My buddy wants to do a connect and cruise ls3 kit. Would he need to worry about transfer case? Should he just get a new stock trans, upgrade the the torque converter,and forget the connect and cruise part; just get the engine. His truck has 140k on it there's no way he's keeping the original trans.

For sure man! I searched on car-part.com and found a used 6.2 with almost the same milage on it. Don't remember if there was a core charge, but I think the engine was $3800 back in 2017.

What do you mean 190 is near the limit the trans cooler lines run thru the radiator at least in older years so at the same as engine temp is normal

I was going to upgrade the 5.3 but figured I'd start with a better foundation. The 6.2 already has almost 100hp more than the 5.3 from the factory. Throw a cam and supercharger on it, easy 600hp.

GOOOOOOODD GOIN............ ! thnk the sierra had a 4l60e and the 6..2 is set up for 6L80 right....... Did you have to change the Torque conveter because the converter wouldnt mount to the flex plate??

Mine has the 6L80. And no, I upgraded the torque converter because of the cam.

The whole point of the swap is to have a bigger foundation to work with. I'm already putting down the same amount of horsepower a supercharged/turbocharged 5.3 would and it's still N/A. Not sure why you're so concerned that you had to comment that on 3 of my videos..

@@HotDogg-on4hf ya that's the way to go and on your spare just check the bearing and maybe replace so.e seals and set ring gap and I think it would be worth getting some flat top pistons for more compression if you are going to be turboing you already have to run 93 or e85 and you use to could get a set 4.8 pistons and rings for like $150 on ebay but they are probably up now and a cam I mean the pistons are kinda unnecessary because turbo but more compression is supposed to be more efficient
