TIL 6573 was one of the seven Olympians used in "The Thame Time Traveller" tour. In the video, it was returning from the photo stop in Radley to Walters Coaches' depot via Eastern Bypass. Its condition was poor that day, with exhaust leaking into the saloon (while all sliding windows have been modified that only a small gap could only be opened, perhaps for safety reason as Brightbus used it as a school bus) and heavy steering at low speed. I chose filming at the front not only because of the exhaust leak, but also because its engine did not sound nice either.
Although the VIN plate next to front door (ON2250) is from 3BL146 (DJ1454), the shorter window bay (122cm vs 144cm) behind the centre door, the nearside engine coolant filler cap, as well as the older style of upper deck emergency door, all prove that the bus belongs to the batch 3BL42-61. It is found that MIL5574, another ex-Brightbus 3BL, carries the chassis number ON1495 which is from 3BL59 (DD3601), but the features on MIL5574 do not match this identity, i.e. longer 4th window bay and updated rear design. Therefore, TIL6573 is in fact 3BL59 and MIL5574 is 3BL146. Brightbus must have accidentally swapped their VIN plates.
Thank you for watching!
