**A nice Lavalier Mic with dual Android/iOS capabilities**
TL/DR: This mic kit comes with receivers for both Android and iPhone. I found that it worked flawlessly on my iPhone, although on my Android phone I needed to use a camera app that supports external microphones. The sound improvement on my iPhone was very noticeable when distant from the phone, on the Android the improvement was noticeable both close up and distant.
Pros:
o Both iOS and Android support
o Two receivers
o Two microphones
o The usual adapters you are going to need for various devices
Cons:
o Would have been nice to include a carrying case for all the pieces
o Manual is very unhelpful
o A little pricey
When I'm making videos on my iPhone, I have pretty good sound as long as I'm close to the phone, but if I have to take a distant shot, the volume goes way down. I can jack that volume up in iMovie, but the resulting sound quality is not as good as I like.
I also have to do some video recording on an Android phone, and that phone has poor sound quality both close up and distant.
I was hoping that this Lavalier microphone set would fix my problems on both phones. It's one of the few that advertises support for both Android and iPhone, so I grabbed it and tested it out.
On the iPhone the performance was great - using it is seamless, you just plug in the receiver, turn on the mic, and you are using it for your recording - couldn't be easier and the results were great. I can now be ten feet away from my phone and I still sound good.
My Android experience was a little more difficult. First, the USB-C connector on the bottom of my phone has a rubber plug to cover it up for waterproofing, and it gets in the way of the receiver when I try to plug it in. I'm able to make it work but it's a little difficult. This is definitely not the fault of Keyoxy, it's a problem caused by the way the Android phone was made.
A second problem is that the default camera app in my phone doesn't seem to know how to use an external mic. What happens automatically on my iPhone doesn't work at all on the Android. However, I was able to snag an external app called OpenCamera that allows you to configure your microphone source, and when I use that the Lavalier mic works just fine.
The result was that for the first time ever, I got great sound out of my Android recordings, both when I was close up and distant.
These mics are a little more expensive than a lot of Lavalier mics out there, but I think their flexibility and quality justify the higher price. I'm happy giving them five stars.
