The Tonor BM-700 microphone kit provides tremendous value for the price - but how does it sound?
Or as the Amazon page calls it: the TONOR XRL to 3.5mm Podcasting Studio Recording Condenser Microphone for Computer with Adjustable Microphone Suspension Boom Scissor Arm Stand and Microphone Kits .....what????
Product Links:
- USA: amzn.to/2jQuDq7
- UK: amzn.to/2itNfA2
- CA: amzn.to/2iyxume
Product sent free for review.
This is a condenser microphone with a XLR connector, but works with 3.5mm jack via the XLR to 3.5mm cable included. If you choose to use it via XLR, your interface will need to be able to provide phantom power.

the mic he is using in this video sounds pretty bad though, lots of ringing(.mp3 file digital ringing like), probably a digital mic, i hate usb mics for that reason. i like it to be fully analog all the way from the mic to the pc. The audio for the video may also not be uploaded as a .wav which is what it sounds like is compounding the problem.

Phantom power would reduce the amount of white noise you hear on that first test with no processing and make the mic much louder, but only an EQ adjustment would give it that nice v shaped talk show radio sound. I use a program called Reaper for post processing

I bought two Excelevan BM-800. Just used one to record a client doing voice over for a training video (plugged into my Tascam DR-40 for recording and phantom power) and it sounds REALLY decent. Sure, it's no Neumann SM69 or U87 but those mics are 10K and 4K each so .... yeah. :) In terms of pop filters, I don;t like the ones on flexible arms and preffer the ones that secure using rubber bands since they take up WAY LESS space. Great video.

Ik this was posted a while ago but I have some questions. I have tried so much to make my mic sound better but for some reason I cant get that. I recently bought the AT2020 XLR Microphone which I have plugged into a Focusrite Scarlett solo. When I hear your 'raw' microphone test with the mic, it sounds 100% better than my mic does. I don't know why the quality of my mic is so bad compared to others, as it leaves in a lot of background noise and does not sound the best. I am thinking that it could be the volume mixer I use, me being in a bad recording environment or maybe my voice is just not clear enough as I still have a high voice. The only solution I have found so far was this program voicemeeter or something where I can kinda trim out bg noise and slightly enhance my live voice. If you might know what the problem is, please help me, as I have gone through many other microphones as well. Also what effects do you use to make your voice sound better, what levels are they set to (EQ, Compression), and what program do you use. Oh my god I cant believe I wrote that all and I applaud you if you read it.
@EposVox
@EposVox 7 жыл бұрын
I mean, good microphone quality starts with sound treating your environment. Condenser mics pick up a LOT of background noise compared to dynamic mics, so you gotta work on that.

@@chrommaa I know this comment was a year ago but if youre plugged directly into your motherboard there could be some interference from electrical cables nearby... try adding an toroidal magnetic FE-Ballast to the microphones 3.5mm cable a few inches from the jack www.amazon.com/VSKEY-Anti-interference-Telephones-Equipment-Appliances/dp/B075G2P5SW this should help to remove hiss and RF noise on any mic. Thanks man. Not sure if I want to get a dynamic or condenser mic but seeing vids like your's on the budget end of things helps me compare some features (and hear them). That was the InnoGear 1- Channel 48V Phantom Power Supply that boosted the quality up about 50% or so? One of the two major issues I have is that I am close enough to train tracks so that it will be noticed on an omni directional pick up. The other is living a block away from a hospital that has a helicopter ambulance. The cats messing around would be a minor issue :p I do plan on using post processing with Audacity. I'm wanting to get started with something that a bit higher quality than a cheapy WalMart mic and windows sound recorder.

For everyone deciding about getting this mic, let me tell you my experience. I may have gotten a bad product, however the mount fell apart quickly... after about a month or so. the mic for me only worked well when plugged into something to change the sound of it. It is a very quite microphone however if the proper settings and gain are appliled it will work ALRIGHT. I definitely think that there are better options for this price point... however at least when I get another mic Ill have the pop filter and wind screen XD

here in philippines anything if you want to get from amazon, you have taxes to have it delivered here and its more than the price of the item itself. So if your item is $100, the tax is $110 or MORE! $210 IN TOTAL! i hate our corrupt government

@eduardoavila646
@eduardoavila646 5 жыл бұрын
@@missasyan It least its not as bad as the brazilian one. You buy something worth $100, you have to pay $50 of taxes (half the price) and if its eletronics, you pay 100% of the price in taxes, so a $100 product ends up costing $200 not counting shipping, and waiting 6 months to it pass customs. So if i wanted to get, for example, a xiaomi pocophone, i would pay around brl R$1200-1400, but then, i also have to pay more R$1200-1400 of taxes, hope that it doesnt get "lost" (robbed by a random guy at the customs, no kidding!), And wait about six months to arrive. Then it doesnt worth the hassle, the waiting, but also not the price of buying something and importing it, because it ends up being the same price as a overpriced local product. Like a galaxy s8 wich costs around brl R$2500-3000. Yeah, a damn over protective country :/

Truly loved this review! Broken down very well, also enjoyed the processed and raw differences. Very helpful. Just wish you elaborated a bit more in why not to use the USB card provided and what an alternative option to gain better power would be. I've read that a 48V Phantom Power adapter will be needed if this kit is purchased - true?
@EposVox
@EposVox 6 жыл бұрын
I mean, the USB card only giving me a useless static mess as I played in the video was all I could really say. It literally didn't work xD But thanks! Phantom Power adapter only needed if you're running to a mixer/interface that doesn't provide it or your motherboard mic-in port doesn't have enough boost. But most desktop PC mic in jacks will work fine w/ the included cable.
@Hellthrasher
@Hellthrasher 6 жыл бұрын
haha, ok, fair point. It was indeed low volume/hissy. . I'm very close to getting this kit, just didn't want to be left with. . damn, should have gotten a Phantom Power adapter. . --been looking into the Blue Icicle , the reviews seem promising. . I don't have a mixer/interface, it's all gonna be ran via laptop. I know zero of this world an learning as I go along . Just trying not to waste too much time/$$ when I could have avoided it all together. Thnx!

tonor sounds better raw than your mic at the beginning of video and the processed version. Your processing in the first half is adding very annoying ringing artifacts that sound like a bad mp3.

in the specsheet from your laptop or just plug an elektret condenser mic like the tonor mic in. if you get a pretty good quality then it provides enough for your mic but if you have to crank up the inputvolume and theres some very noisy static hiss and even your voice gets picked up to quiet, then it may not have enough pluginpower sry for the bad eng. greetings from germany

i hate people Nothing. They sound incredible, especially for the price, whether BM-700, -800, or -8000, the main difference among which is the style (flat-sided, round/capped, and pill). The pill-shaped BM-8000s may be the "best," with more sound from all angles, and the BM-800 is "better," with side input being 360, as opposed to the two flat-sided head. Some elitist bitches just like to troll.
