I was born in 1990. My dad bought a blue 1991 Z28 with the 5.7 TPI also had the blue window louvres. It was our family car until I was 9 😂. Remember always sitting in the back. They were also friends with a couple that had a 90 and 93 C4. Yes being an only child to young gen X parents in the 90s was great lol. C4s and Irocs are some of my all time favorite cars.

Great video- very informative. We're proud owners of a 1989 IROC Z, 5.7 350, 134,000 miles (all original except an upgraded ignition and exhaust system)....great condition inside/outside and underneath. It's all about being meticulous with proper maintenance and continuous TLC.

Not only did it drive great it was extremely fast I think it would of hit 145 easily. He wouldn’t let anyone drive it. Not even me the 2’yrs he had it I drove it twice

Had a deposit on a beautiful burgundy one that they had in the showroom. Went to pick it up at the Stealership and they tried to jerk me around on the price. So I went to another dealer and bought a new Corvette. The next day I went back to the first dealer and the salesman said I thought you wanted a Camaro yesterday. I said I did yesterday. Then I did a huge smoky burn out in front of their show room door. 😂😂😂

awesome car, brings back memories. my mom had one of these when I was born, and got rid of it when i was 6 or 7. I remember they had put a turbo in it that had all sorts of problems. seeing the interior is nostalgic. i was small enough to lay in that back window and look at cars behind us while we drove around the US. though I think hers had a burgundy interior color. everything else was pretty much the same from my memory, from the paint and dash, the rims...hers also had black horizontal lines in the back window. we'd blast meatloaf and billy idol in this thing lol.

Nice IROC!!! I purchased my '87 IROC in 1991 and owned it for 17 years. It was a red 5.7 hard top with the A4. I went crazy with the modifications to make it go faster. I ended up with a 396 ci stroker motor small block (I used a 3.875" forged Lunati crank, not a 400ci crank with the 3.75 " stroke) and a Paxton supercharger. Obviously, I had many other goodies to support the added power. Has anyone seen an IROC with T-tops have the 5.7 emblems on the outside of the car but the sticker under the hood say 5.0? I saw two of them and was shocked. Regardless, they are beautiful cars. Reading these posts and threads brings back memories and the kid in me.

Nice Camaro! I had a brand new '89 IROC-Z Camaro back in 1989. It was a 350, TPI, Automatic. The Camaro was red with black stripes and graphics, and it had T-tops (I really miss T-tops). The '89 Camaro was a cool looking and fun car, but it was way underpowered, and it turned into a rattle-trap after about 2 years. I ended up trading The Camaro in on a new '91 custom Chevy Sportside truck in 1991. Although I do miss the '89 Camaro, it was my least favorite of the 5 Camaros that I have owned in my lifetime. Those Camaros include a '68, two '71s, the '89, and currently a 2020 2SS Camaro. As you can probably tell, I am a huge Camaro fan. 😊

My only critique is that the front bumper is starting warp a bit at the contact points. Can't be helped for a 34 year old car and I'm not going to knock it for that. Besides that, great example of a mid 5-digits 3rd gen Camaro. My friend has an '89 RS 2.8 that needs some dire work, but he's not that keen on investing a lot of money into a V6 RS.

The IROC-Z had a timeless design. Glad GM finally made the 5.7L available after the Mustang beat the 5.0L in '85 and '86. Too bad they never allowed a manual trans or aluminum heads since they wouldn't let it hurt Corvette. Likewise too bad the TPI system was designed for the 5.0L so when the decision was made to add it to the 5.7L it was a not ideal being a really low RPM wheezer as the design characteristics were to help give the 5.0L some grunt. The Norwood made cars were arguably the best until that plant closed, and then the '92s became arguably the best due to the most power output and all the body glue used to reduce the creaks and rattles plus paint improvements over the late 80s.

I ordered a loaded '87 in late 1986 with the 5.7 and the #3 IROC package. Owned it 18 years, sold it in 2005 with 20,200 original miles. In '89 you could get the 305 5-speed with the N10 package ... that gave you a true dual-cat exhaust. You'll notice is when you sit on the passenger side front seat, the floorboard is different.

The 92’s had the same power as a 91 and a 90….89’ iroc 240hp/340 tq. Then in 1990 they went to speed density and a different piston (flat top?) it gained 5 more ea. 245/345…for 350 motor…the cool thing was if you grabbed a 89-92 with the 305 5 speed -(only) you got the 350 cam in the 305…so the 305 was putting out 10 less hp @235 then the 350!, and you had a manual !!! Only downfall was you lost 45 ft. Pounds of torque…300-305.

The funny thing about this in the late 80s and early 90s the main thing you would talk about is how crazy fast these cars were. Now they hardly mention it. 240 hp and 340 lb ft of torque was a big deal in those days. But now we live in an era where 0 to 60 in 6 seconds can be achieved or exceeded by many vehicles that aren't even considered high performance, such as the Toyota Crown sedan.

My 89 Formula 350 took care of some too, and many a 5.0, as they were like flies on the streets of H-Town back in the good ole days. This was in 92-93, and my car was far from stock of course. So I'm just razzing you. Truly fun times. The guys that got so pissed when they couldn't do anything with you were always the GN and corvette drivers. They thought

It's an aftermarket t-top job then with the 350. None were sold from the factory that way. They stopped the 350 t-tops at the end of the 1989 manufacturing.

Yep and if you got the 305 with 5 speed you still couldn’t get tops unless that 305 was with a auto cause the 5speed cars ( only) got the 350 cam and were only 10hp less than a 350.. you also got n10 dual cats j65 dual disk brakes , g80 posi and the awesome g92 gear. No tops with g92 hardtop only… so when 1990 hit and no more 350’s with tops… guys were like I’ll get the 305 5 speed and get tops - well nope got screwed cause the 5 speed cars got that bigger cam and g92… so you really got screwed.. a 305 auto is equivalent to suicide lol
