The M&P 5.7 does not like the AAC ammo, or at least mine doesn't. You had the exact same failure to go into battery as what happens to my gun at 4:07 in this video. What is actually happening with the M&P is caused by it's unique feeding mechanism that I haven't seen on a pistol before (I'm still a noob- have only been around guns about 2 years). Unlike most guns, the M&P requires the extractor to ride over the rim of the case during chambering at the point where the slide stops. The bullet is fully seated in the chamber before the extractor rides over the rim. Most guns are designed that the rim of the case slides under the extractor during chambering. I don't know why the gun was designed in this fashion. I don't know if the AAC ammo is just a tiny bit bigger or a tiny bit of a harder metal, but I get failure to go into battery about once a magazine with this combo. I get this same failure with other ammo types also, just not nearly as frequently.

AAC seems to be making good stuff, which is a pleasant surprised considering Palmetto seems to consider its early adopters unpaid prototype testers of their initial offerings. Combined with the price, and I think these guys are going to have some pretty decent success.

Appreciate all the 5.7 content, my man. I may possibly get into 5.7 somewhere down the line when the domestic MFGs come up with more SD related loads. The way this thing performed here makes me think a sleeker, VLD style fmj (read: longer for same weight) that weighs 30-35gr or so, would be great for self defense.

I wonder how a 5.45x39 style 7n6 bullet or a similarly structured bullet would perform?
@calangel Жыл бұрын
@@elburropeligroso4689 I was just thinking about that. Make a FMJBT with an aluminum insert like 5.45 or M855, with lead at the base. It would be longer than a 35gr bullet should be, and be rear-heavy. It would easily tumble.

AR57 12in: I believe a AR15 H3 buffer (5.6oz) can be substituted for Panzer's OEM AR57 Gen3 (4.82oz). H3 is a wee bit longer. But H3 still short enough to lock the bolt back, and cycles fine even with heavier (Armaspec braided) spring. Using the heavier AR15 H3 buffer, with heavier Sprinco/etc spring, may help stop neck bumping a smidge. (Bonus: same lower setup works for Shortstroke Piston AR15 uppers too, known for tearing rims off cases with less than H3.)

So the question is for mass produced ammo does AAC have a fragmenting or defensive round or do we stick with FN/Fiocci? I don't really want a vmax round for that and obviously as discussed here fmj isn't ideal either. What is the consensus?
@BuffRANGE Жыл бұрын
They don't have a defense/personal protection round yet. The Vmax is probably the only thing at this given velocity that will perform with acceptable SD/PP properties. It may not do barriers very well, but at the velocity the 5.7 achieves it's still going to penetrate past the 12" mark.
@DRock1779 Жыл бұрын
@@BuffRANGE ok so then I guess I'll stick with either the vanguard when I can afford it or the Fiocci fragmenting when I can't lol. Thanks so much for the info as always.

@@DRock1779The Fiocchi Fragmenting is a Hornady NTX bullet, and IMO would not be something desirable for PP/SD in 5.7. I need to gel test it to see how deep it goes.
@DRock1779 Жыл бұрын
@@BuffRANGE that's interesting as I was under the impression that fragmenting was good for defensive purposes (and the packaging indicates it's a defensive load too) I look forward to your test results. I was wondering if at some point you'd consider doing a side by side comparison of the LC carbine and the 16" AR-57 as well.
@BuffRANGE Жыл бұрын
@@DRock1779 It gets a little muddy with our 5.7. In a slower moving round like 9mm, you want expansion accompanied with the proper penetration depth as the wounding mechanisms based on velocity are not there in those calibers. So you want as much of the bullet as possible in it's path to crush/rip/break stuff. When you get into rifle calibers you step across a threshold where velocity is high enough that it exceeds the elasticity of some soft tissues. Allowing the bullet to fragment apart can help send those fragments deep into the medium, while still allowing the core or a majority of those frags to reach penetration depths. Some rifle bullets that don't fragment then are going to tumble/yaw, and may in some tissued beings have WAY TOO much penetration. (think over 18-22"). 5.7 falls into almost both of those categories. The slower 40gr stuff lacks the ability in the pistol to get to that 2000-2100 fps threshold. We want a majority of the bullet to reach 12"+. So in this case something that acts like a pistol round is going to be beneficial; IE the 40gr ballistic tip or even the Speer Gold Dot. If we get into some of the 5.7 rounds that exceed 2100 fps fragmentation would be ideal, but a majority of them that can, those fragments don't reach more than 4-6" inside a medium and that is not ideal. You're left with a base that may only weigh 10-15 gr that possibly may get to the 12"+ depths. So we look at rifle bullet designs that will tumble and provide wounding that way. IE SS198LF, but it's problem it it's penetration depths. FN designed it to be limited risk, so it tops out 8-9". That's where things like T6B, BDF come into play. They are longer bullets, and lighter. They are above that velocity threshold from the pistol, and they penetrate 12"+. I myself pick those above the other available bullet choices :D

What is the chance of a R37x or F hollow point over penetrating. I tried having a discussion on different round for it and I was told multiple times it's only good for defeating body armor and generally larger diameter rounds a better for self defense or etc. What are your thoughts?
