A lot of people have a lot of advice on how to spend a lot of money. But a carburated 5.9 magnum with a 284 cam will run 9 flat in the 1/8th all day long on the cheap. And that will smoke an LS1 Camaro. So glad to see your progress.
@BigBadJonesАй бұрын
@wedoourownstuntz9542 yes. They are very underestimated. I might have gotten carried away with my cam for a family cruiser tho 🤣 I honestly don't know the specs on it. I purchased it for a hundred bucks on ebay probably 6 years ago. It's a reground stock cam so it doesn't have anything stamped on it anywhere. I figured I'd just send it.

Cool, looks like you are going to have a screamer.

Save that 318! Far more superior motor.... Here is the street build info to make a 535hp/535Trq from that 318.. Dyno proven. Started with the 72 318 block, checked for cracks, dipped, baked, blasted, squared the deck, bored .030, align honed with ARP main studs, balanced, Icon forged pistons/ring kit IC846.030KTD, Lunati Voodoo hydraulic cam kit 20200713LK, Scat cast steel 4 inch stroke crank, Eagle rods, Sealed Power Main bearings (set at .0025 oil clearance), sealed power N bearings (set at .002 clearance), Melling oil HV pump, Milodon windage tray, hi-flow water pump, Edelbrock double timimg chain set, Trick flows 190 heads with 1.6 Harland Sharp rockers. The quench is .043. Edelbrock Air Gap intake gasket matched and any 780 carb, with a 1 inch 4 hole spacer. For those who dont know, with the 4inch stroke and .30 over, that makes your 318 a 390. Enjoy.

I may build it eventually. As far as being superior it may be , but the 5.9/360 magnum is a very stout motor as well. I've seen several stroked out to 408 and making around 600hp or more. But I don't have the cash to build a motor at the moment so we just cleaned this magnum up with parts I got second hand or from summitracing outlet cheap.

The LA 318 isn't superior in any way to the Magnum. For the amount of money that particular build would cost (heads alone are over $2200), you might just as well do a very mild build on a Gen 3 5.7... and have the same or better power, and spend less.

Did you check the timing gears. My understanding is that nylon gears were put in Mopar engines at least from 1965 on. It was for noise reduction. Ford did the same or earlier, at least, when I worked for the dealership.
@BigBadJonesАй бұрын
@glenpolnack2398 I put a cam in it and replaced the timing set . None of the magnum engines (91 to 03) used the nylon that I know of.
@rennkafer13Ай бұрын
@@BigBadJones you're correct, Magnums never had the nylon coated timing sets.

I'm picking up a 98 5.2 Magnum (actually a complete 1500 Ram Sport) to stick in my Coronet tomorrow. I'll be using it injection, 4sp trans and all though.
