Hand sanitizer. hmmm.. I started using it when it started trending but then I begin to notice how dark the water is when I wash my hands when I get home. hand sanitizer made my hands a magnet of all the dirt I touched or accumulated through out the day. Stopped using it but use it as last resort to sanitize my hands but still look for water to get rid of the greasiness. Preferred is soap with water to remove dirt and microbes.

I make my own eye glass cleaner like you said except I don't add any dish soap its not needed. My daughter and husband wash their glasses about once a week with soap and water because they are both very oily, I don't have that issue so I just use my solution but I use it daily.

Thanks for the tips! I would also mention that rubbing alcohol can remove or damage factory finishes on metal handles, finished stainless appliances, and any painted and varnished surfaces. While this may not be noticeable in the short run over time it will dull the finish and then remove the coating in blotched sections.

Vinegar 5 gal bucket, 2 lb apples decored and cut in to four. 2 cups of sugar 4 gal of warm water. Leave it closed for a month and you have cheap vinegar. If you have access to wild apples, it will cost you only for sugar (around 2 bucks for sugar)

Quick tip for disinfecting: if your rubbing alcohol isn't already diluted to 60-70%, don't use it without diluting it. Many bacteria and viruses, especially the ones used to "wild" outside conditions and not the comfy stable conditions of your body, have the ability to lay dormant when dehydrated. After all, they're not always going to find themselves in convenient puddles of water and have had billions of years to adapt to dry land colonisation, even if it's only temporary. Using a higher percentile or pure rubbing alcohol just dehydrates the cell/viral capsid without being able to get to the machinery inside it. It'll still kill some, sure, but it's not effective in the slightest and the ones it doesn't kill will go on to reproduce resistant offshoots. So it'll get less and less effective. When you use an alcohol diluted to 60-70%, you attain a perfect balance - just enough water so the alcohol molecules can actually pass through the membrane and into the cell, and just enough alcohol to properly kill once inside. My microbiology and genetics labs, which must be spotless for precision's sake if not for safety, use this dilution in a spray bottle on every surface that can't be autoclaved.

Max so whats the best alcohol to buy 100% or 70% as it comes in those two forms? I use it to clean MTB brake levers etc after brake bleeding and what are some other industrial uses for it? the other eye glass cleaner and window cleaner are good ideas. prepping for survival and first aid sanitisers are other good uses and cleaning electronics. any others? does anyone know if rubbing alcohols are used in cigarette lighter propellants and bicycle disc brake cleaning sprays?. im sure rubbing your brake discs with RA will work fine and not leave any bad residues to damages and pregnate the disc brake pads , contaminating and detroying them causing your brakes to sweak? well the only way is to try it!

Rubbing alcohol can also be used to remove Command strips with no paint damage! Dip a straight pin, safety pin, or thin knife into rubbing alcohol and run it between the sticker and the wall. The alcohol will help dissolve the adhesive and you should be able to pull the hook away with very little damage.

Here's some info u may want to consider, I used rubbing alcohol for many years, but I thought it was rather pricey, even tho it does do a really good job of cleaning. However I discovered it was much less expensive to buy the biggest bottles of "hand sanitizer I could find at the dollar store, & I use the hand sanitizer for cleaning tons of surfaces. It works really well, a lot less costly, plus less odor. It cleans streak free, & cleans stuff I Didn't think I could clean, before I discovered the magic of cleaning with hand sanitizer. Did u ever write on the lid of a plastic container (such as Tupperware) with a black permanent marker? And afterwards u wished u could clean it off?? Use hand sanitizer, dab just a few drops of hand sani on the permanent marker on plastic container. Let it sit for a few minutes, then wipe it off. If it doesn't clean all the permanent marker off immediately apply a few more days, let sit 3 to 5 min & wipe it off again. The permanent marker will all come off. It won't work on anything that absorbs the marker, but it works really well on plastics, glass, & most metals.

Having been a UA for the Army I see what continued use of mass produced hand sanitizer does, not to mention it's strips your hands/ your body from fighting naturally, bad bacteria. I like to make my own with simple Tea Tree Oil, and water. As an extra, I use a foaming hand soap container and add to it about 20 drops of tea tree oil and then fill it up with Castile soap. My go-to anti-bacterial hand soap

I love the convenience of a hand sanitizer. Early on l learned a "crude" but effective formula using alcohol and baby oil as the only two ingredients. I am a retired CNA/HHA, so l always had to be prepared for the unexpected. Soap and water is my preferred method of handwashing, but when it's not accessible for whatever reason, either your own formula...or a "safe" commercial formula is a good option.👩🏾

After researching, I found that 70% isopropyl alcohol (30% water) is optimum for disinfecting for household cleaning and first aid , as the microbiologist has stated below. Higher or lower concentrations of isopropyl alcohol (IPA) will not do any better. The water helps open cells in cuts, to get the ipa into the cut.

I like hand sanitizer when my hubby and I go thrifting. Stores in our area rarely have public restrooms so hand sanitizer does the trick after searching for all the bargains. I also use hand sanitizer in my craft room for cleaning stubborn messes off surfaces. It doesn't dry as fast as pure alcohol so it has more working time to desolve those stains and spills.

As a professional window cleaner, I have to say that we never use pure alcohol to clean glass. We only add some to the water when it's cold to keep the water from freezing. No alcohol, just a simple soap and water solution, and a good squeegee, is all you need. Also, as stated above, it can etch some glass, take the coatings off, and eat into some window frames. I don't mind a little for a spot here and there, but our go to is just a correct amount of soap in the water.

For my version of (EO-inspired) hand sanitizer: A scoop of melted room temperature coconut oil is good for soft hands. Whip or mix really well if the coconut oil hasn’t dissolved and dispersed enough (it can feel a little gritty until the oil melts). And I learned what works best is definitely clear aloe vera gel found in the sunblock aisle - I thought pure aloe vera juice would be better but it got all weird when I added the alcohol.

Hand sanitizers make that we absorb bisphenol A from receipts even more directly into the bloodstream. I would also avoid rubbing alcohol on the skin or even breathing it in because of what they add to it. At least here in France it's horrible! I have a colloidal silver generator and a water distiller and that makes the best smell free hand sanitizer un a little spray or pump bottle. Add essential oils and aloe gel if you must but it works without aloe too.

I don't use hand sanitizer all the time but it is handy. I keep mine by the sinks after washing my hands coming home from stores and handling meat. I keep a bottle in my purse and some wet wipes cause you never know... When I'm sick or my kids are I have a small spray bottle of alcohol by the bed for spraying pillows and the bed when I change sheets. Especially in winter... Thanks for the recipe for it. I have all the stuff to make it and now I can fill my bottles back up for the fall and winter. I never knew hand sanitizer was so simply made!!! It's a new game now I realize I can add essential oils to my alcohol bed bottles now. Thanks!!!

I keep a small bottle of hand sanitizer in my car because after pumping gas, everyone touches the pump. Also, opening doors, buggies at the grocery store ect.... I always wash my hands with soap and water as soon as I get home.

I teach two year olds at a preschool, so if a sink is not nearby at the moment I definitely use hand sanitizer until I get to a sink and can wash thoroughly. LOL other than that i'll use it after I put gas in my car cause who knows whats with all those fumes and on that nozzle LOL! Hand sanitizer works great if there is not a sink nearby period! I definitely don't rely on it for a thorough disinfectant though. Haha! Soap and water is always a must! Thanks for the video Melissa!! Loved it. I took lots of notes =). YES!! Please make more cleaning hacks videos for sure!! =)

My hand sanitizer use varies depending on the situation. I'm sick with a cold, after I touch my face/blow my nose and dispose of my tissue. While camping and using portable toilets, that's usually the only option (may follow up with a baby wipe or walk the half mile to mile to find a sink). Spot clean reptile cages (with paper towel), quick use before moving onto other things.

CVS has small spray bottle of 91% rubbing alcohol which can easily be refilled. We have one in the kitchen and one in each bathroom. They are labeled so when we’re permitted to have visitors there’s no problem. At this time we’re also have one in our car for our hands. It is the best thing I have found for cleaning a whiteboard. Much better and much cheaper than the commercial products. Thank you so much for your help around our house.

As a nursing student I use hand sanitizer a loooot. When in doubt, soap and water. If I get some kind of bodily fluid on me always soap and warm water. Something important that I learnt the hard way is when it comes to noro virus (dont remember the English name for it, but you know... When stuff comes out of you from both ends. Lol), alcohol will not kill the bacteria! So if someone around you is sick, always wash your hands with soap and water.

Hand sanitizer is needed and well used in my home and at work.. There are so many reason why we should use it but, mainly for me if there isn't any water nearby then this will help to kill most of the germs that like to linger on our hands.. And now that I know how to make my own, I will use 91% alcohol to create it.. Thanks for sharing!

I prefer to use soap and water. Every hand sanitizer I've tried has dried my hands out to the point of cracking and bleeding. I also can't use Dawn dish soap. You know their slogan, "it takes grease out of your way"? Well it takes grease out of everything it comes in contact with. Yes, including my hands. I crack then start bleeding. I have to use Palmolive. Love that one, it's easy on your hands and leaves them soft 😁

Well my microbiology instructor told me that because hand sanitizer only cleans a certain percentage of the microbes, it leaves behind the stronger microbes so if you use that primarily as oppose to washing your hands, then you hand become a feeding ground for the resistant bacteria and a lot of times the resistant ones are the ones that cause disease. But that's not necessarily all true either so you never really know I guess. I would use it in a pinch but tend to go for washing my hands first and for most.

I love the detailed explanation by the microbiologist! Regarding discussion about hand sanitizer. Just some rubbing alcohol is much better if no water to wash is present. It doesn't dry my hands, and I have pretty fragile skin. I see many doctors have gotten in the habit of using hand sanitizer, especially when seeing patients because it's quick. However, I ask them to wash their hands. Hand sanitizer, among other things, contains insecticide........ UH-HUH. Frequent use has been reported to eliminate natural flora long enough to actually leave skin vulnerable and people have developed warts, etc.i also don't trust the sticky residual not to actually pick up bacteria that might live long enough on the surface to be passed on. I have used rubbing alcohol for years for all the cleaning mentioned. I keep some in the kitchen in a spray bottle. I really don't like the residual of insecticides, anywhere. I encounter ants every once in a while, mostly if they find a stray piece of cookie on the floor, or some very sweet salad dressing on the counter---just a drop you couldn't see, and they WILL find it! I spray them with the alcohol and they die IMMEDIATELY. Then wipe up with a paper towel. Otherwise I use a drop of the gel insecticide on the little cards on the floor, and they immediately gather, eat it, and take it back to the queen, which is what you need to kill. I really don't have a problem if food is not left out and regular vaccuming. I've also noticed they don't like the dark blue dish detergent. They avoid it like the plague. So, if i need to scour a pan, I fill it with water and a small amount of the detergent and no ants come around. I decided to try an exterminator once, thinking it might be better. The guy used a gel............But he said it was a super-duper gel........Charged me $80 and was going to come on a schedule. Nope.

I use hand sanitizer if a toilet seat in a public restroom looks icky. I carry a travel size bottle in my purse, and I'll get some toilet paper and squirt some on it, then carefully without touching anything, wipe the seat with the toilet paper. I also carry a travel size shampoo in my purse just in case the restroom is out of hand soap! Works like a charm!😄

i use hand sanitizer when i am out walking the dog if i think i might have come into contact with anything whilst picking up their mess; i always ensure though to place my hands inside the dog bag that i’m using to do this but wash my hands still when i get back home. we also have an en-suite bathroom & my husband is a light sleeper so i try not to run the tap after going to the loo & instead use the anti-bac hand gel; during the day if i have access to a sink i wash my hands but only use anti-bac if i haven’t got access or it’s night time. i should also state that i have low immunity because i’m taking prescription drugs & have done so for a number of years so i have to watch myself that i don’t get ill as most of the time i end up with serious chest infections & need medical treatment on top of other health problems ....

Remember, Isopropyl (Rubbing) Alcohol comes in three concentrations... 50%, 72% and 91%. You might even find the green massage type which has a wintergreen smell. Personally, I prefer the 91%, since you can decrease the concentration easily (just add more water) but increasing it would take a distilling apparatus, and no, you don't want to get into that. An advantage of the higher concentration is that it evaporates more quickly. I even use it on my auto windows to cut greasy build up, but I always follow with an ammonia based cleaner for the final polish.
