If you drop either the ecoboost engine in or the fox body SVO engine from the 1980s (if you can find one and afford it), you have a MONSTER and a total sleeper!

This wasn't mentioned in the video unfortunately _-maybe fortunately-_ but the 2008-2010 models of the Cobalt SS switched over from the supercharged engine (LSJ) to a turbocharged engine (LNF) which made 260 hp & tq from the factory. The SS sedan shown at 3:13 is actually a turbo sedan model. I'd say the easiest way to tell apart LSJ models from LNF models is to look at the wheels, the 05-07 models usually had a bulky 5-spoke wheel design whereas the 08-10 models usually had a wheel design similar to the ones on a C6 zo6.

Another Pontiac; the Pontiac Grand Prix GTP. The fwd SUPERCHARGED 3.8 v6 is one of the most bulletproof and underrated engines of all time. The engine itself was a spiritual successor to the grand nationals twin turbo v6 (believe it or not). You can buy them for pocket lint and toe nail clippings, they got a similar reliability reputation of a 90s Corolla, and the 3800 v6 has a surprising amount of potential for horsepower. But because it’s a fwd car, the clout bois turn their head at this car.
@matrinezkevin114926 ай бұрын
GM also made MILLIONS of 3800 series V6s over every single brand that had GM badging on it so parts are everywhere and, if you need to make rare repairs, the engine bay is quite roomy and has easy access to any accessory drives etc. It was a great engine which means GM was obligated to kill it and replace it with a shittier successor.

I'll add another Pontiac to the list: the 6000 STE. It has a smooth ride (it came with self-leveling suspension in the rear), pretty good design (if you like 80s boxy stuff), a really nice exhaust note, and the best part is the digital dash. Only problem is GM never offered a 5-speed for the STE level, only the 3-speed auto, but if you really wanted you could probably swap one in there.

Ngl, I got hyped when the Cobalt was in the video. The funny thing for me was that the Cobalt SS was one of my childhood cars. I was exposed to it in NFS most wanted where that thing was a fwd terror if you could max it out in the campaign. Plus it had a fun way of torque steer. It could go into the torque steer and the fwd would pull it back into position compared to rwd fish tailing in the same scenario. I had such a good paint setup for it in most wanted as well. Hard metallic blue with red metallic stripes hugging the fender end with a color shift to the same blue. Gave off a really cool opacity to the red stripes without molding the two colors to a purple. I would love to replicate that paint job if I ever get my hands on one of them. At least, I would but I can't fit in one well so rip. Being big and tall sucks.

Was fortunate to own a 70 GTO 4speed, a 69 GTO Convertible (auto on column), 74 Charger, 65 F-85 (2speed power drive) and 72 Grand Prix - someone painted it bright yellow and it was known around town as the "big banana". Had two Panasonic Thrusters (Floor standing speakers) in the back seat. They'd rattle the windshield). I also had a 73 Scamp, a 79 Monte Carlo (after I was married in 1991) then in 1992 a 1991 Grand Am. I now drive a 2024 Mustang GT convertible. This is a kind of homage to my late wife who I met when she was driving an 85 Must GT 5 speed and I had my GTO Convertible.

A good european car not ruined by clout is the peugeot RCZ, a sporty little fwd nugget with the styling principle of "what if a very rounded citroen and an ND miata had a drunken one night stand". That's the RCZ, also being fwd removes it from the drift tax category, the engine might be not all that powerful but it is one tiny coupe, the backseats might be designed like modern, dystopian, flat, space saving plane seats, but they exist, plus considering it's not really from a brand that's known for cloutbois, not to mention just how spacious the trunk is for something that sleek, they really did snort a line of coca-cola when making it but it was clearly very high quality coca-cola cause they did something awesome, combine the docile stylings of a "your moms hatchback" car and the general driving experience of a semi-sports car, something great to carry your groceries to and from home, while still enjoying the experience, the peugeot RCZ definitely deserves a spot on the list of european cars that mostly flew over the radar in the U.S. in favor of more exotic european cars.

I love the Pontiac g8 when it comes to the lineup of forgotten cars, looked great, rwd, super fun car

1980 - 1993 New Yorkers... Which is great for me because I am sitting here hunting down a 1987 New Yorker with a V8 and RWD and specifically in red and therefore the lack of clout they have makes the hunt easier

Fun fact, Crown Vics also have a recall for their gas tank bursting into flames when in an accident. Though it was due to accidents at a much more significant speed, (mainly done for Police interceptors), so Ford doesn't like the word "fire".

Yeah, and they were all fixed with armor.

I daily drive an 06 Pontiac GTO. I absolutely love it. I'm almost surprised it is in this list though due to all the G8s and GTOs that end up at street takeovers.

People sleep on the V6 muscle cars, 10k - 15k for a 2017 Challenger SXT or Camaro 1LT with 130K miles is kinda crazy.

A car id like to suggest would be the ford probe. its basically just a mazda fwd coupe with a (somewhat) practical liftback design and goes for almost anything under 10k. only hard part is finding someone that actually wants to sell it cause apparently people like holding onto them or there just arent that many left

My girlfriend and I were just talking about the Solstice! And the Barracuda is one of my dream cars(purple 1971 Barracuda and 1971 Chevelle SS gun metal gray, I want both dammit) and I wanted a Cobalt SS as my backup car(ended up getting a 05 Pontiac Grand Prix instead, got 223k miles on it but dude it drives like it's brand new, shifts PERFECT and is in very good shape for a 19 year old car I like it, and can't beat that GM 3.8 very good robust engine if taken care of). So you had like all my favorites in this video man. And yeah no Ford Pinto guys that's worse than getting a Yugo, if you're gonna get something that's dangerous to your health get a 1973 Riviera with that bubble back no way that's been ruined by clout they only made it for what 3 years? And they look sick and super unique, someone in my town has one in mint condition like must have dropped $50k+ on this resto. Just drive around with a full on gas mask/respirator and you'll be good lil exhaust leak into the cabin no big deal haha.

I'm shocked the 80s and 90s thunderbirds aren't on this list. You can get those for much less than $10,000

Cobalts also came turboed later on, contract with the supercharger company ran out, they made their own turbos, car made 250 hp stock after that

I remember the Saturn Sky back in Dirt 3 as it was my first EVER DLC car I bought as a kid. It sadly didn't have a unique exploit unlike the Mini Gymkhana or the Scion TC when you played Outbreak (aka infected),but I loved it a lot nonetheless

I unironically love all of the cars in this list. Especially the pontiacs and the cobalt ss. Tho Id like to adress one thing for the pinto, yes theyre basically a moving fire hazard, but the wagon pintos are actually much much safer because of the longer body, it added the safety that the hatch pintos lacked.

The ‘71 cuda that you showed when talking about Plymouth are ridiculously expensive right up there with, and actually beyond some, camaros and especially nonshelby mustangs

Not gonna lie the Monaro is a pretty slick car. I occasionally see a black one with Vauxhall VXR 8 badging and it looks both mean and actually pretty stealthy with the subdue styling, though not very stealthy when the owner sets off (legally) from a set of lights.

I have a suggestion for the euro cars video: E38 gen BMW 730i/740i. A nice example sets you back ~$13-$15k, you could find a slightly rough one for around $10k. Rarity might be the only issue, I don't know how are they are in the US.

Yes the Ford Pinto, because it's actually a lot better than the stories would have you believe. It was not a lemon, the engine was actually quite good and made a decent tuning platform - there were even turbo kits for them. The gas tank design that made it explode was actually very common at the time, it was just the Ford Pinto in particular that was vilified for it due to a leaked cost analysis document that found it would cost more to make them all safer than to pay the families of those affected by crashes. And Ford did later recall all those Pintos and fix the problem, so any Pinto you find today is going to be fine in that regard. Also the Pinto wagons/vans never had the exploding gas tank problem, so those were always fine. But most of all, the Pinto is actually a fantastic handling car for its time. The Pinto was the basis of the Ford Mustang II, the front suspension of which still to this day forms the basis of countless street rods and restomods due to its favorable handling characteristics. So if you want a dirt cheap classic American RWD car with decent handling, Pinto is the way to go. They're much better than anyone gives them credit for. Also you can convert a Ford Pinto engine to DOHC with ease because the Volvo B series (IIRC) cylinder head has the exact same bolt pattern!
