I've been riding since I was 3. When I red LOTR and came to the chapters involving Rohan I was hooked. Painting miniature Rohan riders and their horses is such a cool hobby

Really liked both the speckled ones! Definitely made a difference seeing them with painted saddles on, as they looked a little odd up until then. Saving this for when i get round to revisiting my high elves

I try! I've got quite a bit of Rohan content coming up in the coming weeks :) Are you starting with the new box set or some other miniatures?

Great ideas coming from this tutorial. Definitely more convincing the white-patched horse rather than the brown, but you never know if you don't give it atry so... Really nice content as allways!!

Literally just what I was looking for, was struggling to come up with ideas other then brown, grey black, and white horses.

Great video. Thank you!! I need to work on my Rohan army. To answer your question, I have ridden a horse before I moved. It was fun, I miss that.

OH NICE!!! Thats awesome, What colours are you thinking?

@@SwordsandBrushesThinking some of the light gray along with some brown/tans. Methods 2 & 4 are really speaking to me with my color scheme. I’ve been trying to find schemes that compliment the the samurai armor 😅

Beautiful job 👍. I have several horses that I've been hesitant to paint because their riders are part of the sculpt and I'm uncertain which makes more sense to do first, the rider or the horse?

I like how you use real reference pictures. Most tabletop horses I find really dissapointing because of the unrealistic uniformity. I have been a horse lover and rider for nearly all my life, and in miniature painting I enjoy painting horses the most! P.s.: The color of the morgan horse in your video is called "cremello". This horse is genetically a chestnut but inherited two "cream genes" from his parents. "Creme" dilutes the original color. One creme gene makes a Palomino, two creme genes make a cremello (even lighter with pink skin and blue eyes). If you are interested in other unusual colors, try perlino or silver dapple :-)

Not a fan of the first two horses. Why would the tail hair be colored but the hair over the body is not…
@SwordsandBrushes4 ай бұрын
Not sure what you mean, looking at horses, they have a big variety of different colours and shades. You even have horses that have different coloured tails than the mane.
@wolftrem42064 ай бұрын
I mean he did show some inspiration images and it has largely do to with genes and anomalies as for example the Buckskin horses have genes that give it a cream colour but leave the points (mane and tail) black. white horses such as the first two painted here are very rare. Most white horses are actually grey due to age, which is a process and colours the horse white over time leaving room for mane and tail or even other parts of the body to be non white/grey.

Ah thank you for the added info my friend :) But yes, when browsing for this video i do try and find the more unusual ones, or something that stands out to me - that way each time i paint a batch of horses, they will look different to the one already in the army - so hopefully one day when i have a HUGE army of cavalry, they will be all sorts of weird and wonderful colours! Especially if i get a few photos of them charging the ranks of those pesky orcs! :):)

@@wolftrem4206 Not quite... White horses are not rare at all, this depends on the breed. Totally agree on the rest. They are called "grey" because they are born in any possible horse color and gets whiter and whiter as they grow plder. So the whiter a horse appears, the older it is. Grey horses have dark skin, exept on the places where they had white markings. If the horse was a chestnut when born it is very typical for them to have a yellowish mane and tale for a while, if they where born black, they would appear more grey, appear dappled or with black manes. And yes, there is the so called "dominant white" horse as well - these really are very rare! They have light eyes and pink skin and are born white. As far as I know this gene has something to do with white markings and it can be found in the knabstrupp breed or Appaloosa...
