I'm from Reunion Island, and we have a lot of endemic bird species, including a White-eye (Reunion Olive White-eye), so was scared for a minute before you said it was from the Mariana Islands, because I thought that one of our endemic birds went extinct. Our native mussels are so interesting.. and creepy. They mimic certain darters (for bass) and bugs (for darters) and when the fish tries to eat it it'll latch onto their face and pump baby clams into it. The larvae then clamp down on the gills and feed for a while before dropping off.

Mosquitofish and rasboras, despite their name, aren't dependant on those. Same applies to other birds who eat bugs, they're not completely dependant on mosquitoes. Come to think about it, a specific diet to just 1 species isn't a good survival strategy.

@@bewarious8348 More food availability for animals is better than less food for them. We humans already lowered many animals survivability chance in the wild because how we fucked up the Ecosystem. And an extinction of Mosquitoes just makes their survivability chance even lower. Heck, even Mosquitoes extinction would affect plants growth as they're categorized as pollinators. Some plants may go extinct due to this. Bees exist, but their population has been declining since 2018 by 40%. At this point, anything will do to help some animals or plants survive in the wild. Any extinction of an animal really saddens me, as they're what makes this planet special.
