Here's a fun story, when i went to see Cannibal Corpse live, and the roadies were setting up the stage, the DJ at the venue was playing an entire Six Feet Under record through the PA. A Graveyard Classics album no less, no clue which one. You could see that the dudes setting up the stage were almost bursting into laughter and headbanging as a joke.

The criticism is that their songs have parts that he likes, but they are in really long songs with a lot of parts he doesn't like, and the parts of a song have nothing to do with one another. I have not listened to dream theater at all, I checked them out, heard clean singing and turned it off, so this is not my opinion but his opinion.

The point is that it isn't coherent at all. Their songs aren't songs, it's just technical flexing for 9 minutes. An 8 minute progressive death metal track I really like is The Funeral Portrait by Opeth. All the ideas are clear, the transitions are smooth and that entire 8 minute song really feels like an 8 minute song and not lots of different bits of songs. If you like dream theater, you should just listen to Watchtower because they're almost even more insane.

Bands I used to love but hate now: 1) Metallica.. kinda obvious, but whatevs. People are like, "New Metallica album kinda sucks..." it's like yeah, bro we know. It's been like that for 30 years. 2) Mastodon.. they were one of the best bands ever, then the bassist of System of a Down cracked Brent Hinds over the head at the VMA's and they released their opus - Crack the Skye - this was their best and last good album... then the CTE started to kick in, and they've been getting worse and worse and worse and unlike Metallica when Mastodon comes out with a new album, I'm like, "Oh God... did they get it together?" No. 3) Fleshgod Apocalypse.. they were one of my favorite bands so naturally I checked out their newest album and apparently they now suffer from "Roadrunner Syndrome." It's like, bro I don't have a girlfriend to hold my jacket for me when I'm in a mosh pit... stop trying to write songs for our imaginary girlfriends to enjoy. I'm very fickle with formerly brutal death metal bands suddenly injecting "clean vox' - I call it "Roadrunner Syndrome" (because tons of awesome bands start sucking after they sign to Roadrunner).. 4) Opeth... (read above) 5) Slipknot... like, there's just no point. They can't do "the thing" anymore.. The take modern mainstream metal bands have on metal is bad for obvious reasons, but I think what happens is they make a certain amount of money then become lazy. Kind of like UFC fighters! Most of them will do so well until they make a certain amount of money and they're simply too comfortable to push themselves into "greatness" territory. Same with Metallica. They just can't do it anymore, and really it doesn't matter because they'll be rich the rest of their lives touring off their old material regardless. My advice? Just listen to Nile. Nile freaking always slays and Karl Sanders is 60 years old.

I absolutely understand you don't like Dream Theater. Altough I'm a big DT fan (and prog rock fan in general), there is sometimes the feeling that its almost too perfect. Some albums (like Scenes From A Memory) are absolutely fantastic, while for example The Astonishing is just too much of everything. Like my brain is melting down when I listen to The Astonishing in one run. Etc... :)

Its funny … carach angren was one of the first less known bands i listend to … so i went back through some of my metal magazines and i had hardly seen that band in the magazines - but then i was in a shop and found one magazine i had missed out on - and it had stuff about carach angren ! And it talked about how much metal heads had such a problem with them lol - just by almost missing out on one magazine i had almost skipped a chapter in metal history! Lol.

It's fine that you dislike Dream Theater and yeah they do have some pretty long songs, however I think the appeal of Dream Theater, at least older albums do this, is that they're story based. I think Metropolis Pt 2: Scenes from a Memory is a master piece. I'm not a huge fan of the new stuff though. Side note, On the Backs of Angels is not 20 minutes. It's about 8 minutes.

Carach Angren to me are like the Cradle of Filth/Dimmu Borgir of the new generation, meaning cheesy and commercial black metal for non-black-metal fans. And I actually like a lot of super synthy BM like Summoning, Limbonic Art, early Nokturnal Mortum, early Emperor, Rotting Christ, Vordven, Elffor, Elysian Blaze, Nortt, Dolorian, etc. It's how they use them to aid atmosphere rather than just make everything all warm and syrupy sounding.

I feel like everyone hates Carach Angren, but I love the shit out of them especially because they were what opened me up to liking black metal years ago. At this point I just laugh because I expect to hear it. 😅 It's so rare for me to shit talk etc music I don't like but I must say Ghost is horrendous. Their branding was successful with people who love wearing merch they don't listen to, but that's about it. SFU is extremely disappointing, although I do like some of their old stuff. Haunted especially.

After seeing them live and getting goats blood splashed in my face, accompanied by the smell of rotting pigs heads, mixed with incense, flaming tridents, and the devilish break neck guitars, drums, and bass. Not to mention Erik Danielssons vox and demonic stage presence. A redheaded hipster girl was vomiting in the pit behind me because of the smell, blood, or combination of the two. As a diehard Dream Theater fan, I can certainly understand the issue with the fan base. The Mike vs Mike debate got old very very quickly, and 13 years later still goes on regularly. On the backs of Angels is just shy of 9 minutes, so I'm not sure which song you were referring to.

Here are the bands I hate (In no order): 1. Hatebreed - I've listened to a whole bunch of Hatebreed's songs but I can't grasp the context of them. And the fact that they are labelled as metalcore really bugs me considering the fact that they have no metalcore characteristics whatsoever. One thing I really like seeing in a band's songwriting is the use of similes, metaphors, onomatopeia, etc., but as far as I know Hatebreed doesn't do that. Deep down, I really want to like them, but I just can't. However, I will say the only Hatebreed song I like is Perseverance, mainly becasue it talks about fighting cancer, which I can relate to since I lost my aunt and papaw to cancer. Other than that, fuck Hatebreed. 2. Limp Bizkit - The main reason I hate them is mainly because of Fed Durst. He is a complete douchebag. All he sings about is how he's better than this person or that person and how he can fight them easily. Plus their cover of Metallica's Sanitarium is just God-awful. 3. Memphis May Fire - There are plenty of Christian bands I enjoy, but not these guys. Their songwriting is predicatble. They have no creativity, and it all points down to Matty Mullins. He has to be one of the most down-trodden Christians I know. He's so attatched to his beliefs that he has to let everyone know. Now I am a Christian myself, but I have no time for Evangialism, contemporaries or anything they stand for. Get this through your head: NO ONE GIVES A FUCK ABOUT WHAT OU BELIEVE IN. Your life does not consistently revolve around God. 4. Fall Out Boy - Fall Out Boy has some of the most boing rock music I've ever heard. When I heard their song "Immortals" I was bored halfway through the song. Plus, their singer is just annoying. If anything else their fanbase really gets on my nerves. 5. Bon Jovi - Bon Jovi is probably the first band I came to despise. The first time I heard them was in my English class junior year. We were studying transcendentalism and my teacher (to my suprise cuz I never thought she liked music like this) played their song "It's My Life" and to me it was real cringy. I tried to se if they had anything better, but to me they just don't. 6. Emmure - They have done absolutely nothing special with metal. They're pretty much all the same. What pesters me the most is Frankie Palmeri's vocal style. The way he growls from a growl or a scream to a sort of speaking style is really cringy. A few of their songs are ok, but if they make some improvements in the future, then I'll reconsider my opinion. 7. Liturgy - Watch CountBlagorath's "Bands I Hate" video for the reason. Now keep this in mind: This is only my opinion. If you like these bands, then awesome. Listen to them as much as you want. I am in no way attacking those who like them nor am I looking for a response war.

Don’t get the hate for Megadeth in the comments...one of the few bands that knows how to take a song to the next level with a guitar solo. I like your list though.

Poser.... Good video! It's actually kind of hard for me to think of bands that I have a strong dislike/hate for. I might say Revenge and Death Worship, but that's not so much dislike as it is their reputation vs my own inability to get into them.... Dream Theater is okay for me, just never really spent a whole lot of time with the band outside of the one album I bought forever ago. Six Feet Under, I sort of dig a little bit. I enjoy the groove/stoner aspect to the band. Barnes vocals are certainly unique. They're definitely not a top favorite band or anything though.... Thanks!

I definitely hate Six feet under (specially the TNT cover). But there is a band I saw last summer which blew me away for how band I thought they were.. I’m talking about Sinistro from Portugal. I just remember myself wanting to fucking go to sleep (btw the only reason I was there was because I was waiting for Anaal Nathrakh to come on stage). The members are mostly wery big and hairy Latino guys but the lead singer is a tiny woman who was basically just talking while the guys were playing some crappy songs. Sinistro gets my number one definitely!

Not to mention Kendrick Lamar, Brockhampton, Big K.R.I.T., Injury Reserve, and Ghostemane. LOVE Deathgrips and Danny Brown. And Splendor and Misery is a contemporary Sci-fi masterpiece. Country has some great acts too. Sturgill Simpson, Colter Wall, Tyler Childers!, Chris Stapleton, not to mention Zac Brown Band has a pretty kickass metal song called “Junkyard”. I think much like metal, mainstream is usually shit, but when you dig deep, you can find some gems. Good Luck!

Here's 5 Bands I hate 5. Shrine of Malice. The only song of theirs that I can mildly tolerate is Lord of Flies, but that's just also because I was enjoying the anime music video for it. Otherwise, I dislike it all. 4. Mayhem. Regardless of my upbringing and views on political, social, and religious topics, I tried to give Mayhem a chance for the music alone. I couldn't. I've tried numerous times and they just bore me at best and I don't like it at worst. 3. Within Destruction. I loved these guys before they decided to add trap metal, rap, slam together. I don't understand why they switched to such a dogshit combination. 2. Limp Bizkit. There's not a single song I've ever listened to by them and enjoyed, just cringed instead. 1. Lorna Shore. I absolutely despise the way their songs sound and the way they approach Deathcore. What's worse is that so many people seem to love them that many bands are pretty much mimicking their style leaving me with less and less bands that I like the sound of. I'm sick of Lorna Shore and how the community won't stfu about To The Hellfire, ik it's got a heavy breakdown... that's maybe THE ONLY good part in their entire discography, but even then I still hate it all. Funny though how some bands that have mimicked them, have done the approach significantly better. I understand they have talent, but they suck musically and Will Ramos is way too overrated compared to other vocalists like Alex Terrible, Dickie Allen, and Ben Duerr. These are my opinions btw
