Good tips. I started collecting Barolo and Barbaresco more than 10 years ago, en primeur. I had a feeling they were going to start rising in price. I am currently drinking 2011s and '12s whilst awaiting the '10s and 13s to mature. My buying strategy has been to select reasonably priced half cases from good years, so 2015, 16, 18, 19 and 20. I shan't buy any more now as I am 68 and have enough to see me out. I recommend: Nadia Curto; Silvano Bolmida; Ciabot Berton; and Produttori del Barbaresco as well-priced producers. The Wine Society in the UK is an excellent source for these and many other domains.

Just to add to those, I drank a Giacomo Fenocchio Villara, 2011 over the weekend and it was excellent and vgv.

For me, Arnoldo Rivera Undicicomuni is a cellar defender for me when I want an everyday Barolo. It was recommended to me when I was looking for a Barolo to try. Blended from fruit from 11 villages. 3 weeks fermentation in stainless steel, 26 months in botti, 6 months in concrete. For the sub $30 price it is a very good value based wine. Thank you for another great video.

I just got a bottle of the 2019 G.D Vajra today based on your recommendation, can’t wait to try it! I have really been getting into Nebbiolo this year, what a great find!

I hope You enjoy the style as much as I did. But I am also a crazy Nebbiolo fan! 😅

@ I have been branching out into a lot of different Italian varietals this year, but Nebbiolo is so consistently good! I also have a Valtelina in my cellar I’m waiting to try!

Very nice episode. I’m a big fan of Nebbiolo and very much disheartened by the recent run up in prices. It was not inexpensive to begin with but with the recent trend it is more challenging than ever to drink it on a regular basis.
@NoSediment9 ай бұрын
I completely agree. It is a small region, and now that other regions are becoming unattainable, they are focusing on Barolo’s and Barbaresco’s and that naturally drives up the prices. 😵💫 Unfortunately.

Thanks for the video and the tips. As a non-collector that simply likes to enjoy wine every so often instead of bourbon is the typical price range for the US somewhere around $35 or are there a few Vinyards that have a good product for a bit less. Never tasted one of these until recently at of all places a small Pizza restaurant and couldn't get over the cherry taste that I experienced. So anything that I could drink now or within a few years would be nice to grab if you had any other suggestions.

In this case I think looking for Langhe Nebbiolo labels would be much better. I just opened Paolo Scavino Langhe Nebbiolo (and for sure Vietti as well) - all fabulous wines! And most certainly have earlier appeal. 🍷

@NoSediment Thanks for the reply. Just picked up a Produttori del Barbaredco 2022 nebbioli for around $27. I'll look for what you suggested but not a lot of selection around my area.

This is clear, you love Langhe wines!!😁 Anyway it was interesting, some producers that you mentioned are for me a discovery. There are so many out there that for no professional wine lover is difficoult to taste all of them. Sometimes I find too nice surprises even at the supermarket. well done Agnes and thanks for sharing. Cheers

I do love them, yes! However, I think there are other regions that I also would like to explore deeper nowadays. And definitely, great finds at good prices can be founs at supermarkets’ 🥂

Oddly enough, I am drinking a Paolo Scavino 2008 Bric del Fiasc as I watch this. I think it is extraordinarily good value and I love the 'fiasc' in the name. Surely coined with my life in mind. Nice selections and the 2019 vintage is a wonderful year that provides power with approachability and those tannins are things of glory. Do you not think that when opening for yourself it is the risk taking that is fun and the chance to really learn something? A very good video, thank you for the effort. Perhaps worth encouraging people to look to auction for Neb, as the tannin profile can be confronting in any of the young Nebs, even the 2019's? Tootle pip, it is back to the hard labor of drinking wonderful, aged Barolo for me. It's a dirty job but...

I think that is one of their top labels and certainly costs quite a bit, yet still affordable if compared to Burgundy and premium Bordeaux. I think opening any wine will offer some knowledge, if we are open enough to pay attention and listen (smell/taste)! 😅 Cheers to You and that lovely wine! 🍷
@sinclairwhitbourne20908 ай бұрын
@@NoSediment Tsk, tsk; hardly expensive. It is the Scavino's favourite, but not at the top of their price range. Agree, even the top Barolo is still well below the top Burgundy (especially) and Bordeaux.

I'm absolutely agree with "Produttori." Real bargain. What is interesting is the fact that all of their single vineyards cost almost the same price, which is not so common in Piedmont. However, there are at least two single vineyards, which are sold out quicker than others and more difficult to get🙁(I'm sure You know which ones I'm talking about 🙂). I have also liked their "basic" Barbaresco, which is of excellent quality and great value. Vajra is another great producer with still affordable prices. In addition, I would add Paolo Scavino to this list. In my opinion, most of their wines are also quite affordable.
@NoSediment9 ай бұрын
Yes, I agree. Paolo Scavino is really lovely. And I was considering to add it to the list. I didn’t only because very recently it received the spot in the TOP 100 by Wine Spectator.

“I usually play it safe when I choose bottle of wine for myself” I am opposite and thats probably the reason I think Champaign and Burgundy are worlds most overrated style and overpriced wine out there😂 Barolo/Barbaresco on the other side… one of the best money can actually buy😅
@NoSediment9 ай бұрын
Barolo is heading where Burgundy is. And Burgundy offers great wines, it is just that prices have risen, and in many cases because of the intermediaries. Champagne will always be on my list as one of the greatest wines to share with people! 🥂🍾 Cheers!

It's kinda funny to me when i see people in US and Europe saying that some wine is not affordable while here in Brazil wine is so expensive that if i told you how much we have to pay to a single bottle of barolo or brunello you would call us crazy.
@NoSediment6 ай бұрын
Is it because of the taxes?
@jordaoruas75806 ай бұрын
@@NoSediment Mostly. 60% of tax on alcoholic beverages and currency translation. We pay about 10 times more (proportionally) than americans for the same bottle.
