I thought as much it seems like the houses in Hyde park are made of Gold always have ridiculous pricing the estate agents are making houses unaffordable in this area for example there's one house that's been on the market for over three years the price is R150 million still not sold up to now I mean most people retire With R5 million so if I had R150 million I can build myself my dream house with far less instead of buying another persons dream estate agents thinks R40 million is R40.

@@elvissmith3846 I agree with you. It's pretty expensive. You can get better at half the price in Westcliff double the stand size in a gated suburb and have a gorgeous view of JHB North all the way to to the Magalies mountains. I must say though that the house is exquisite.

We are a Canadian and American expat couple and we also have a large house (4 bedroom with a small apartment) that we bought for 5 million rand which is only $283,778 USD. We are next to Hyde Park in Craighall Park. We have a large park across the street where we walk our dogs and can see the most beautiful bird life. Parakeets and Love birds frequent our yard. Life is good here and not so dangerous as the internet would have you believe about Johannesburg. We could NOT afford what we have here back in the States or Canada. We are a middle aged couple so more settled. A younger person might be bored here, the culture here isn’t like we had in NYC but art & culture can be had here. Plus we only have to drive several hours to see the magnificent elephants, lions etc. wild, in their own habitat. We do earn the equivalent of our American income in South African rands which buys you a very comfortable life here. We are blessed truly.
