I am so encouraged by this. I humbly reached out to a letterer on instagram whose work I have been admiring, and am potentially considering going in a similar direction. She told me to contact her by email so I did. I asked questions, told her about my journey and was looking very forward to hearing back from her. She said she was in a slow season so I was sure I’d hear back. After 3 emails I guess she decided she wasn’t interested in networking, which was disappointing but did not stop me from continuing to learn all I can. There is a reason for everything. Thank you Becca for being so open and willing to share your craft and present other resources for us to learn from. Keep on!

Thanks so much, Murielle! It's great to hear from you. What is your favorite tip from the interview?
@muriellecurcio14946 жыл бұрын
I liked how you explained why AND how to lift my pen to avoid congestion, and the two color technique to focus on how each stroke joins the previous one. This has really helped me to be more aware of my letter forms.

That is so great, Adelaida! Getting down those basic strokes helps so much when you're working on the miniscules. Keep at it!

There are so many calligraphy books out there and if you were to suggest your favorite for beginner to intermediate, which one would you recommend? All good but many have ideas in it but I want one that talks more and shows lettering.

Thank you both so much. You are both so much an inspiration. I’ve been watching you and practicing my basic strokes before the class using a brush but I’m thinking of switching to a pen. Any advice?
@piecescalligraphy6 жыл бұрын
Hey Kim! You are so sweet, thank you for your kind words. I'm assuming you're referring to a paintbrush, right? I personally love the marker pen better than the paint brush because 1) you have a bit more control with the tip being firmer than a brush, and 2) the pen is similar to a regular pen/pencil, that most of us are familiar with, whereas not that many people are very familiar/comfortable with a brush. Hope this helps!

Pieces Calligraphy Hi there! I’m thinking about changing to a pointed pen. I’m using the markers. Your videos are very helpful. You are a really good teacher. Thank you again!

I am left handed and taking a calligraphy class for the first time. The instructor told us to start with market pens and I noticed my lines are all thick. Do you have any tips for left handlers because my instructor doesn’t?
@shawnie20275 жыл бұрын
I love love love how you are Becca!🤣🤣🤣im cracking -up at the two of you right now n had to stop curling my hair n pause the video to tell you that! 🤣I’m just freaking out a lil now cuz you two just said you were secretly trying to learn how to write left handed too! I am as well but the other day I sat down to practice my lettering and started to write my name “Shawnie” and what came out was backward! Like not einwahS but my letters capital S was backwards h backwards etc!! I was like WHAT THE HECK!? So thought hummm..🤔maybe it’s just my name let me try something else and sure enough I was able to write anything I could think off backwards NOT BACKWARD BUT THE LETTERS WERE! I have no idea why but it started from trying to write with my left hand and it’s like my right brain n left brain finally were introduced and had a tug of war for awhile n as the night progressed I found it easier to then again write the standard way I and everyone else in the plant (I’m guessing now lol) has been taught to write! Oh side note I was able to write upside down and backwards too!!!! That did take a sec to think of ea left yet but with the other it flowed as if I were taught that way my whole life... that was the strangest part of it!!! Is that something you all have experienced or am I just a lil freak here in Oregon? It’s probably something in the water right? 🤣🤣🤣

Hi, I'm new at lettering and think the consistency of the sumi black ink is too thick. Will thinning it with water help me to control the flow from my dip pen?

Instead of using your hand to clean your erasures, use a makeup brush- keeps oils off your cards--probably try the "Let It Snow"
