You are correct on all points. A lot of Micro-brands that use Seiko movements are often way better than a Seiko watch.

My last Seiko: SPB117, brand new from AD. Timegrapher results: +26 sec in the dial up position; amplitude 216 deg in noon down position. I was gaining over 3 minutes, every 24 hours. I thought the 6R35 was better than the 4R’s: boy was I wrong to believe the hype. Seiko has turned into the GM of watches & we all know what’s happened to GM. Too many YT’ers are on Seiko’s pay, & I’m tired of the BS. In fact, I’ve unsubbed these false reviewers. I suggest others do the same:

I own 3 Seiko watches, my last two i purchased in January this year, a Willard and a Turtle, the Willard gains up to 2 minutes per 24hrs and the Turtle 35 + seconds per 24hrs this is terrible time keeping for a watch at $2,000 and $1,400 Au... I like these watches for case quality finish, and the b/w dial are so legible and clear to read. If only Seiko could improve their time keeping to be more accurate, as adjusting them each day is annoying 😧 Au

I often ask myself why would anyone buy a Seiko with all the QC issues, yet I own 2 of them lol. I also have the spb101 and found out that you can align the date by using the quick set. I have a Pressage and the minute hand is about 5 minutes ahead of the hour hand. I was going to sell it, but dang it, I like it too much. That being said, I don't think I will be buying any more Seikos. The QC issue is unacceptable.

Check the time by putting the hour hand at 9 o'clock. The minute hand should be at 12 o'clock on the dial. Good idea to do when you buy a watch and perhaps especially Seiko.

I still love Seiko but my personal experiences have all been good. Some of these misalignment issues are blow way out of proportion (and a few are obvious and valid too). And same as Omega I’ve never seen choice as a bad thing.

Agree with you other than to point out that they have upped the price across-the-board for the same or lesser quality… They have taken the value out of many other models… And not given any updates to specifications...Even worse they’ve taken away specs on some models and still increase the price considerably. I’m out… I’ve replaced a couple of older models that I regretted selling in my collection…There are too many responsive sellers and brands out there with a better bang for the buck!Here’s

Must say I own a orient kano and it's great value for under 200pounds. Sure it would cost 3 to 4 hundred if it was a seiko.im sticking with orient from now on.hacking and in house automatic movement as well.

Can't say the price hike bothers me tbh, they're just moving away from the entry level market- we accept paying a premium for well known Swiss brands but expect the equally well respected Seiko to be dirt cheap... Agree with you on bracelets not being great and wish they were regulated better. Alignment issues I've been lucky, but probably wouldn't notice coz I'm over 50 and eyes aren't that great! Wouldn't say I'm a Seiko fan boy, I own a 6r35 Sumo and a Alpinist currently,but don't think I'd spend over £1000 on a Seiko. Good video, nice sub-collection, Cheers 👍🏻👍🏻

To be fair the entry level swiss brands say 500-1000 absolutely kill seiko's of the same price bracket for qc, finishing, movement and overall feel. So I disagree that seikos were underpriced. Even a sarb033 /035 is no match for the feel of a hamilton khaki, certina ds1/ds2 or similar mido/Tissot options. This is coming from someone who dislikes the khaki king, owns a sarb035 and who's had 23 other seikos come through the collection. I'm now down to just the sarb and flightmaster from seiko in my collection and thats good enough. These days I prefer certina, bulova, glycine etc. Though I do regret selling my sarb017 which I'll probably rebuy someday.

That’s the problem with poor quality control. You never know that you’re going to get. If you are buying Seiko Ild recommend buying from a trusted source knowing there is that probability of Sending it back.

Don't mind bracelet strap quality much, as I change them out anyways and at the price point I prefer the money going into the watch itself, over into the bracelet, all the rest reasons why I don't buy Seiko online, nor any mechanical seiko anymore

Ive grown tired of seiko aswel lately , i bought a brand new SSC701 recently. Came with a misaligned dial , chapter dial and bezel. The whole watch was basically 1 or 1.5mm to the left.

I own a King Turtle, Samurai PADI, four SRPD's, including a Naruto x Boruto version and one that I modded. And I also ordered a King Samurai and the new limited Alpinist 'Mountain Sunset'. No QC issues, except for the candy bar cyclops on my Turtle, which is slightly crooked. But other than that I have zero complaints! Great video, mate! Much love from Germany

Well, for me some of it isn't actually Seiko's fault, but other watch enthusiasts fault - same reason I fell out of love with the Royal Oak and pretty much everything Rolex: It's everywhere, and people praise it beyond it's worth. It's funny that a person can bash on a chinese watch only to turn around and praise a Seiko with the same or even more issues. I actually never got around to owning a Seiko, but I tried the white cocktail time, back when I was actually interested in the brown with date dial and powerreserve. Was impressed at the time but as time went by, I came to the conclusion it's too big for it's style. But yeah, the price hike as you call it, the QC issues (especially combined with the praise), and the watch community made me sigh every time I see a Seiko. I might go for a vintage Lasale and/or a SRPE41J1 (happy to see they finally made a smaller watch). Men indtil videre er min samling Seiko-fri.

Exactly! They were my favorite brand for a decade… I have a fairly large collection and purchase 10-12 a year...Are used to buy three or four Seiko’s a year. In the last two years I’ve purchased one… A replacement Of the flightmaster that I regretted selling…I have no plan to buy another and Other big brands, and micro brands are now my focus for all the reasons that you listed in your video… Thanks for the great piece as always!

Great video and Seiko collection! Did you get your SKX009 used? Your bezel insert looks aftermarket, and I'm guessing the Jubilee it came with is aftermarket too. Perhaps that's why you thought it was horrible - the original Seiko jubilee is super comfortable.

I've got 3 skx007s, srp777, seiko urchin (my very first seiko) and 3rd generation green Sumo, love them all, the straps are crap but you can go to strapcode and get a good quality bracelet. I purchased all mine for very reasonable prices, the Sumo for £555, but yeah seikos are getting very expensive now and are flooding the market. For what I paid for mine I'm very pleased, plus I'm a bit of a seiko fan 😀

Today I recieved my fifth Seiko, the "King Samurai" Save The Ocean SRPE33K1 for a really good deal - It is my second Samurai. It is a stunning watch, the chapter lines are perfectly lined up and it's even better on a OMEGA black/grey Bond NATO strap. Yes, Seiko has it flaws, but I still love the brand. Rigtig god video som altid! ;)

MY SPB143 has aligned bezel 12 and 3, date is perfectly centered. I don’t agree with date feature thing. When ordering from seiko I asked them to check alignments an other QC issues.

I hate that Seiko discontinued the SKX instead of upgrading it to specs the customers wanted from the very beginning. They could have upgraded it to the Prospex line instead of ending it altogether. 😢

I bought a spb143. Bracelet jangles, bezel isn't even close to being aligned and after wearing it for a few months it now runs +2 MINUTES per day. My friend bought it for me in another country so seiko won't honor the warranty. I won't buy another.

Seiko is still dominate the watch world because their deisign are still relevant its affordable but not cheap lots a variant to choose from do not forget what powers their time piece that alone is money well spent there is no more cheap labor today people. I dont know why expect to much it is a good watch more reason to collect u expect to much but not willing to pay more 🤣

I have a few Seiko 5's non hacking or manual wind and the and the quality control is at best variable. I almost expect hand alignment issues with these watches where the hour hand is lagging the minute hand when the minute hand is on the 12. Fortunately on my examples it's only a little out and I can just about put up with it at the price that I paid some years ago. With increased prices it is not acceptable. However, I have yet to own a Casio or a Citizen analog watch with any alignment problems at all and I have a few of each brand. The Seiko watch bracelets are also very variable to the point where if I recall correctly I purchased a replacement band at the point of sale on one occasion as it was so bad. It's not just Seiko who have decreasing quality control at this price range though. If people keep making a purchase for a watch as an accessory instead as a precision time piece standards will not improve anytime soon.

I cant get into the newer Seiko's because it's so expensive and the sizes are too big. I tried on various Seiko Presage line of watches while in Osaka and none of them felt right on my 6.25" wrist. I'll stick to the old Seiko 5's that are less than $100 and vintage Seiko's.

Great VLOG, as always. Always great insight with all your reviews. I have a queation off rhe Seiko topic. Im looking to purchase a watch, but stuck between 3. Omega Seamaster 300, Longines Hydroconquest and Tag Heuer Aquaracer. All three are comparable, with Omega having the best resale value. I've watched several reviews, with Longines somewhat on top. I’m a huge fan of Seiko, but at the same time frustrated with their QC issues and where they cut corners on their watches. Personally I haven’t had any alignment issues until I bought a used Dawn Grey Samauri two weeks ago. You would think a limited edition watch would have better QC. I also agree that Orient is killing it with the value proposition. My Borealis Sea Storm has the quality and regulation that should be expected by Seiko. Let’s keep shouting, Seiko is listening believe it or not, but they are slow to act.

Most of their market wouldn’t know they being taken advance of in Seiko’s QC problems. They don’t know the time keeping abilities of a good movement or the alignment of the dial/bezel. Their attitude towards the consumer keeps me from buying Seiko. Stay well Anders.

I’ll probably never buy a Seiko ever again. All three of mine failed just out of warranty. Seiko offered no help. I replaced the movement myself in each and sold them immediately. That’s too many failures one after the other when I have other brands for 30 to 40 years and they still work flawlessly, having survived decades before a regular service. The Seikos on the other hand have all had proper manufacturing defects and poor workmanship, failing due to broken hair spring, balance breaking off and fouling the movement, a dirty movement due to missing crown/stem o-ring. These were all new watches. No thank you. I don’t care how popular they are, they are trashy overpriced pieces of junk in my experience.

Seiko quality has gone to the dogs. I bought one, and the case was so badly chamfered with sharp edges all over the place -- I couldn't stand to wear it. They really need to up their game if they wish to retain their customers.

I really dislike the way they discontinued the popular models and bring the 'updated' models with almost twice the old price tag like the Sumo and Alpinist. Not to mention their standard model like the SKX007 is like their number 1 bestseller and probably the one that bring them the most profit but they still discontinued that model. I also hate the fact that they stamped the Prospex logo all over the place. Even the new Alpinist has that logo, WTF Seiko?

To start with Anders, I truly love my SEIKO SKX009 The Pepsi! ❤️💙 But if Seiko want to be taken for a serious Watchmaker, They have to start NOT to miss-aline The dial! It can’t be a big thing to correct! To make correct watch dials!! Another thing is to start to make better steel bracelets! When They have better quality controll, They can start to raise The price! For to get payed more, Seiko must leave The massproduced watches, like The Seiko 5 and 5KX or to start to make them under another umbrella name! The Presage line is midtier watches, there must The quality control be very tough, when They get that recognition from The market, They can start to raise The prices, not before!! Maybe is The name King Seiko a great name for The new mid-tier watches, a collective name for all watches King Seiko models, directly under GS Grand Seiko. Seiko manages to have a coolness not all other brands have. But Christopher Ward and Formex offer much much better quality at the mid price range whilst Glycine’s combat sub now offers a much better alternative to cheaper seikos at the lower point. Having said that… I just got a SPB143 and overall I’m happy with it. The movement is average, the clasp is average and the lume is not great (for a Seiko). But the case, bracelet, bezel, hands and especially dial are great. Plus it’s cool.

You are talking about the straps and bracelets. Pl. remember Seiko is not a micro brand. Micro brands do some good bracelets and perfect bezel alignment because they have to remain in the market. Seiko is a market leader. Watch regulation can be done by a good watch maker. Seiko produces watches for the masses and normally they don't mind some seconds + or - per day as they are not going to catch a space shuttle on a precise time.😄 Your review or whatever it is looks like a paid review of some damn micro brand.

Two things are making me mad when encountering a seiko. Firstly is the over-over-hyped "speech" fans are reciting about the "legendary" (haha) SKX.. It makes me sick hearing it again and again. The second complain is about seiko going upmarket (higher prices) when the overall offerings and quality remains the same. I am not a hypocrite. Two Seikos (SRPB27 compressor and SNKP21 with Arabic-hindi numerals) are in my collection since times when the brand was not that drunk with its own success. But other than those two, no other seiko will enter. Yeah, this is my way of showing them the middle finger. Orient or reputable Microbrands. And that's it for me. Goodbye seiko. Hope you'll break your neck on the way up to success.
