Forget all the Doomsday Prepper fantasy B.S. when it comes to bug-out guns. Walking around like you're in the apocalyptic wasteland, adorned in a leather G-string and carrying a tricked-out AK-47, is as good as taping a "PLEASE LOOT ME" sign on your back.
Same goes for a lot of the other "tacti-cool" sh*t a lot of preppers are packing for an SHTF evacuation scenario. Besides, I don't know about you, but I for one don't feel like lugging around a metric buttload of brass if I can help it. You need something light, versatile, rugged, and concealable (even in your bugout bag) that will still help you pack the firepower you need to be protected when you're en route to your safe-zone... and I want to show you 5 of my most favorite firearms for a forced evacuation scenario.
If you have any firearms tips/recommendations for a SHTF situation, go ahead and leave us a question or a tip at: WarriorLifeTips.com and if we use it in an upcoming broadcast, we'll give you credit and send you a free "thank you gift" in the mail.

Great vid. I totally agree with you. I loaded my SHTF, long-term bug out bag with the intent of carrying 9mm (Glock 19 & 26) and .22 (pistol and 10/22). In the end my pack, with 300 rounds 9mm and 700 rounds .22 weighed in at 80 lbs without water and deemed it too heavy. I decided on just .22. I can carry more rounds and I'll have more room for other survival necessities. When it comes to defense, I'm certain I can protect myself with .22. But my plan is to stay low and live off of varmints and such. Shooting a deer isn't going to help much when I can't take it with me and I have no refrigeration. Most of the comments I see on here disregard the premise you start out with. The 3 C's. Yeah, I'd love to take my .308 Remington along too with a couple of hundreds of rounds of ammo. Too much weight. .22 is the best bang for the weight/number of rounds.

My ideal top 5 guns for an SHTF situation for bugging would be 1) Glock 17 2) Keltec Sub 2000 w/ G17 mags 3) BCM Recce 16 MCMR AR-15 rifle 4) Daniel Defense DD5 V4 .308 AR style rifle w/ 18 inch barrel 5) Mossberg 590A1 with 8-shot tube. Granted I couldn’t carry all of these at once, but they would be my choices for what to take with me.

As far as semi-autos go, the good thing about the Glock is the interchangeable magazines. My 30-round mag will fit my Glock 26 as well as my Glock 19 so it adds versatility and higher capacity mag options across the same platform. Thanks for adding George!

the 12 gauge gives me more confidence than the 22 anything. I like the variety of shotgun ammo. It has everything from flares to bird shot to buck and slugs. They are also fairly reliable and affordable. On the farm while the 22 is common the shotgun seems a bit more common. I think that the practical uses account for this. And modern semi auto pistols have proven their reliabilty enough that the auto vs revolver debate is over.

Try the shot loads made fo snakes, in your sub2k you can take small game and birds at extended ranges up to 20 yds, without destroying the animal! It does however require manual extraction due to the low power! Birds in flight are possible! Try that with a 22.

Taking into account your narrow parameters, I would do some narrow thinking. So, I would go minimalist and go for only 2 weapons! First, a handgun: the whole concealability thing is blown out of proportion. It's a matter of application, and one can conceal a Colt 1911 if you put your mind to it. I would go for an FN Five seveN, and 2 mags spare. That's 61 shots! Then secondly, I would go for an FN P90 (not PS90), and a spare mag (100 shots). US Secret Service agents routinely carry these under their outer clothing with few people even aware of it. If carried in a bag of some sort over the shoulder it will be very inconspicuous due to its very compact size (even smaller than that AR pistol!). Take note, this is my very narrow choice for a narrow set of parameters. The 161 rounds carried will be sufficient to take care of the immediate threat (hopefully), but for longer scenarios there is much more to consider. My emphasis was on concealability, compactness, ease of shooting, quantity of ammo and effectiveness of the fire. These two weapons together tick all those boxes better than any firearms I know of. What do you think?

Marlin 1895 CB = 45-70 ( 9 shot ) I Had to throw in a #6 because the 45-70 is my primary hunting rifle, the guns on my list has a reason to be there but none of those 5 are hunting rifles. My #3 was a toss up between the Ruger PC or a Glock 26. Glock mags are everywhere so I thought the 9mm carbine would be more useful.

I liked your choices but your premise is that this is to be a long term survival situation. 1300 rounds of 22 lr relative to 370 rounds of 9mm presumes that you plan to do a lot of shooting. To escape a danger zone i'd prefer a more decisive caliber like 9mm. There are several concealable choices that allow pcc and handgun interoperability. @Warrior
@Warrior 2 жыл бұрын
You would hope so, right Seth? For everyday carry, I only use the revolver as my "get off me" gun. From the data, under stress, only 1 out of every 4 shots is likely to hit your target. Even one shot can stop an attacker because people simply don't like to get shot. :-) But a handgun isn't a very powerful weapon against a human target and attackers can continue to do harm even after being fatally shot. And if only 1 out of every 4 rounds hits meat, a 6-shot revolver means you may only get 1 or 2 rounds into him. Unless that's in the brain box, he won't be instantly killed and still a danger. They certainly have their use - and I use them. Thanks for commenting! Much appreciated! :-)

@Warrior
@Warrior 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Danillo! Yes, there are other options in both .22 and 5.56. This is just my own personal "top 5" bugout bag guns. 9mm is another good option because it's a NATO round and there may be more availability when production is down. It's definitely a caliber I have when not in "evacuation mode". But for all the reasons first stated at the beginning of the video, I've personally chosen more reliance on the .22. 38 special - while an ok round - doesn't necessarily meet the criteria I talk about in the beginning of the video. But I'm always open to other reasoning so please feel free to dig deeper into your explanation here. Thanks for commenting.

I feel like I just sat through a .22lr commercial. Also find it rather comical he mentions the guns being easy to get to, then picks an AR-7. "Hey, just give me like 2 mins to set this up then I can start shooting at you! Oh wait I'm under stress and fumbling, so make that 5... you know what just give me 10 mins, alright?" Yeah, that'll work well. Here are my picks, and rather than 5 I have only 3. 1) A 9mm semi-auto handgun, preferably something akin to a Glock. Simple design, semi-automatic, and holds a lot of ammo. Also fairly compact, making it the gun you're most likely to have on you when you need it. If you can only have one, take a handgun. *Alternative 1:* A .45 ACP handgun for those who live in areas with magazine restrictions. If you're not going to be able to take advantage of the 9mm being capable of carrying a lot more rounds, might as well take advantage of the .45 ACP making a bigger hole. The difference is minimal, but there is still a size difference between the two. *Alternative 2:* A .357 Magnum or .45 "Long" Colt revolver for those who live somewhere with large dangerous game. Only a small percentage of the country really lives somewhere where you'd have to worry about bears or giant boars or the like, but if you're one of them a .22lr ain't gonna cut it. *Alternative 3:* A 5.7 or similar "long range" pistol caliber handgun. An odd choice to be sure, but I don't subscribe to the idea of being able to barter/scavenge ammo. That in mind if you're comfortable shooting one of these and keep a decent cache of ammo for them, they're not a terrible choice. There are certainly much worse options, like say a .22lr revolver. At least this gives you a bit more range and less recoil over a standard pistol round, and possibly a bit more ammo capacity than even a 9mm. 2) A semi-auto rifle in an intermediate caliber (5.56, 7.62x39, 6.8, etc). I'm not going to list off any specific guns because there are a number out there that are perfectly fine, I would recommend staying away from AK/Galil style just because of the weight though. Also if you're going the "SBR/pistol" route I'd suggest a .30cal (whether 7.62x39 or .300BLK), simply because they tend to lose less energy when you start cutting down the barrel compared to smaller/faster rounds. Good for hunting (though you really should trap/fish rather than hunt), and plenty of firepower to defend yourself whether facing two or four legged critters (despite what the Emu War might have you believe). *Alternative:* A pistol caliber carbine. If you're somewhere where the most dangerous game is a possum, this is about all you need. These can be smaller and lighter than their rifle counterparts, and have less recoil. With the right combination you could not only share ammo with your handguns but also magazines, cutting down on the logistics which is always beneficial. Alternatively a rifle in .357 Mag or .45 Colt is another option for those who went with the revolver for a handgun. 3) A long range rifle in either .308, 6.5 CM, 7mm, etc. Honestly unless you live somewhere where you can see all the way to the horizon (exaggerating a bit), you probably don't need this over the #2 pick. So you could consider this an alternative rather than a third choice (though if you do live somewhere like that I guess you're about as "bugged out" as you can get). Because of the range factor this would mostly be a hunting or "pest control" rifle for some place after you've settled, so a bolt action or the like is fine over a semi-auto. I'd only really consider this in combination with #2 if you planned on traveling through different regions or the like, possibly something you keep stored away until after you've settled. *WHY NOT....???* Why no .22lr? The .22lr is a squirrel gun, while you might be able to use it to flavor a stew your likelihood of taking game suitable to feed yourself and/or others is minimal. "But poachers take deer all the time with .22lrs!" No, they BRAG about taking deer all the time with a .22lr. It's like fishing stories, they occasionally get one but if they got as many as they bragged about the deer population would be non-existent. Similarly while the .22lr has killed plenty of people it's not a great defensive round, and even with quality ammo you're more likely to get jams than with centerfire ammo. If you can "bug in" it's a great option to have, if you have to bugout save the weight for something more useful, like food and water. Why no shotgun? Shotguns are versatile platforms, but once you put a barrel on them and a choke in the barrel and load them up, they're only useful for one or two things (maybe could push it to 3 if you have a SxS/OU with two different chokes). At the same time they're also heavy, the ammo is heavy and bulky, and the parts necessary to make them versatile add a lot of weight. Like the .22lr it's a great "bug in" option, bugout not so much.

Thanks for taking the time for a detailed response. Much appreciated. As I start out with, people certainly do get their tighty whities in a wad when we start talking about "best guns", etc. I certainly expect (and want) pushback. Mission accomplished. Let me give you my $.02 response as quickly as I can... I don't remember saying that the AR-7 was a "fast action peacemaker" under stress. I'd have to go back through the video, but that's of course not the advantage of a rifle you have to put together. I mean, I can do it in under a minute, but it's not a fast-action gun. That being said, I talked about my criteria of "Conceal-ability, Caliber, and Comfort" - all 3 of which the AR-7 gets a thumb's up by me (And by the way .22LR, I'm still waiting for my sponsor check in the mail! Grrrr.) For the rest of your recommendations, I talk about these factors in the video so I'm not sure if you've watched it all or not. Quickly, in harsh environments, the less movable parts the better - which is why I mention the revolver and the lever-action over a semi-auto. You do also mention a revolver, but my choice wouldn't be the .357. Ultimately, the range of weapons you've mentioned aren't all "bugout guns" - or at least I don't see them that way unless you're talking about using only your vehicle. But I'm really only talking about your bugout bag - in which case you're not going to be bringing a long-range rifle with you and I highly recommend NOT carrying your full-size AR or other semi-auto rifle. You do mention some other good options... but overall I think you're talking more about "survival guns" in general. I'm open to other feedback. Thanks for taking the time to chat it out.

@@Warrior *"I'd have to go back through the video, but that's of course not the advantage of a rifle you have to put together."* It's not no, but you did say this in regards to the criteria needed for the choice of firearms: 1:42 "So you need to make sure that you're using a firearm that you can conceal in someway either on your person or inside of your bug out bag *_that you can get to very quickly."_* Now you might be able to get to the AR7 quickly (debatably), but if it's not assembled it's not going to make much of a difference. Overall I find the idea of a "backpack gun" somewhat laughable since, having seen some people's bags, there's no way in hell they're getting anything out of there in a hurry. That's going to be worse when, at least one would hope, you stuff it to the brim with food, water, TP, and whatever else you might actually need to survive in the event you're forced to leave you home. And on that note... By pointing out my choice are "survival guns," yet yours are "bugout guns," you show you consider bugout to be something other than a survival scenario, it's not. If you have to bugout, especially on foot, you're most likely in some kind of survival scenario. To that end you need the weapon(s) to be effective and versatile, just being light and being able to carry a lot of ammo for it won't cut it if you find yourself up against something the .22lr is woefully unsuited for. If someone up in say grizzly country took your advice and only went with a .22lr revolver, and came up against a momma grizzly with their cubs, they're going to end up as the next meal for those bears. Yes a .22 long has taken bear before, in a very specific incident and under rather perfect conditions. If you rely on a .22lr to defend yourself against a bear, you pretty much deserve to get mauled. That's naturally is an extreme scenario, only a few people live in such a part of the country where that's even a potential concern, though it does show the importance of an individual's situation and why I provided alternatives for my picks (like that .357 magnum you wouldn't take). The question ultimately is "why do I need the gun?" and the main answer is going to be protection. A 9mm may be significantly heavier than a .22lr, but it also does more damage to the body with more reliable ammo and, outside of something like a Kel-Tec CP33 (which I would in no way trust my life to), holds more ammo in the magazine. For this reason not only does it offer better protection against others who might want your stuff, but also other dangers that might be about (coyotes, mountain lions, stray dogs, etc). If hunting is a secondary purpose a .223 or similar cartridge allows you to hunt larger game that can actually keep you fed, while also being extremely effective defensively. If you're walking all day a squirrel here or there isn't going to make up for the calories you burn, especially if you have others with you (spouse, children, parents, etc). In contrast what purpose do you have all these .22lr guns and ammo for? Because it really just seems like you're wanting to walk around with a gun without adding any weight. Also begs the question why would you be walking down main street in a bugout scenario? Somewhere that's bound to be crowded and chaotic I'd avoid like the plague.

@khadenallast4495
@khadenallast4495 2 жыл бұрын
@@pounceonyou1958 If only one gun, a 9mm handgun (in my case a Glock 17). I don't intend to use the gun to obtain food, and I don't have anything in my area that a 9mm won't kill up close (which I'm not about to take pop-shots at something that's not an immediate threat, so it works). Small and lightweight, easy to conceal, can carry a decent amount of ammo, and is an effective defensive weapon. Also I wouldn't intend on being nomadic for that whole time. I have a few ideas as to where I'd go if I had to bug out. Being nomadic is dangerous, especially when winter rolls around.

The peep sight works well out to 50 yards for me. Not a marksman rifle, but that's not the intent. There is a rail on the receiver that will accept rings for a red dot or scope.

9mm isn't necessarily "tacticool." It's capable ammunition. And there are probably more people out there with 9mm ammunition than .22 emmo.
@Warrior
@Warrior 2 жыл бұрын
Hi pjamese3! No, 9mm isn't "tacticool" at all. I hope I wasn't giving that impression. 9mm is a NATO round and absolutely an option for a bugout firearm caliber. For me though, and really for the purposes of this video's intent - the .22 is a better option in most cases. But I would never argue with opting for a 9mm. Thanks for sharing.
@ms.annthrope415
@ms.annthrope415 2 жыл бұрын
9mm is capable if you use the right loads. Load heavy and it is slow. 147 grain bullets go just about 920 feet per second. You have got yourself a 15 round .38 special. If you load them with 124 grain +P at 1,200-1,250 feet per second, it's crossing into .357 magnum territory so you have a 15 round .357 magnum. And a 125 grain at 1,200 is a NATO standard load for a 9mm.

Horrible Choice, really. Not one 12g Shotgun or a 357 Revolver or a 9mm/.45ACP (since you live in USA). Sure 22LR is something I wouldnt want to get hit by but how will you hunt if needed ? I as a European have access to a Mosin 1891/30 and a DoubleB 12g Shotgun (Baikal). Cant conceal them but people see Wood and say "Hah thats a friendly person with his Grandpa's guns out here helping people" Ammo for these is here everywhere since we have a strong Hunting Culture in Europe.
@Warrior
@Warrior 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for commenting Tobi! Of course if you're in Europe and you have more accessibility to certain ammunition, then this meets the criteria I outline from a different angle. I don't recommend a 12g shotgun because of the lower ammunition count, noise, etc. but ammo shouldn't be too hard to find and I have my eye on a Mossberg 590 for testing soon. The #1 caution I have though is with walking around with "Grandpa's guns" - really makes you a target. This video will help: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nKXPhJqkn5eIj7c. Thanks again for commenting. I've seen chickens with their entire HEADS cut completely off do the same thing Jim. :-) Doesn't mean the hatchet didn't do the job. I can't back it up with exact stats this second, but it's always been said that more people die from the .22 than any other round. But, like I said in the beginning... when it comes to "bugout guns", there's more to consider than stopping power and certainly the .22 is NOT a massive man-stopper compared with other bullets. Consider the other factors I talk about. In the end, to each their own and I don't judge what people use for their bugout guns or what caliber they're packing. Thanks for sharing.
