When a law is passed that "assault weapons" are illegal, will you quit the force? What if they ask you to drive a police tank through neighborhoods searching for someone who protested the government 3 years ago? Will you condemn your fellow officers if they do these things?

EVERY ‘professional’ gunfighter/GUN guy that works on their firearms..would ABSOLUTELY recommend running a LUBED rifle/carbine. I wouldn’t even consider running a ‘dry’ rifle..not with the heat that’s produced..even from just ONE mag. NO way. I run my more along the lines of “wet”..the BCG is glistening, not dripping. Friction is a KILLER and then combined with the heat produced..? Geez. Ask “Patrick Sweeney”. ASK pretty much ANYBODY. It’s been proven there’s no ‘onboard drip tube’ on those fancy BCG’s..for the ‘self-lubricating’ gimmick. It’s just a slicker, polished metallurgy, IN an aluminum upper. They main benefit is it’s EASIER to clean, that’s it. EVERY carbine/rifle NEEDS irons. But to each his own. Stay safe man..

I agree for most folks an AR-15 is a great GP rifle for use. I would have opted for the 1 1/2 inch longer barrel especially in 5.56 NATO. A shorter barrel is great if I am kicking in doors, clearing rooms or fighting from a vehicle, but I dont intend to do any of that! The 5.56 depends upon speed to do its magic and the shorter that barrel the less effective it becomes as ranges increase. This was especially true when shooting "sticks" in Somalia beyond 200 yards.

Afternoon Michael. My go to rifle is my M4 carbine, 16", nitride coated barrel, with a 1 in 7" twist rate. But i can see where sometimes we may need a little bit more hitting and distance power. That is where my .308 lever action comes into play. My favorite (so far) is the Remington 700 sps tactical AAC-SD. Just my opinion, but it doesn't matter what a person uses, as long as he/she is proficient with it. Just know your rifle, practice with your rifle, keep it in a clean working order. ✔️

A well thought out video; logical, rational, sensible. I don’t entirely agree, however. My own perspective is not that of a prepper enthusiast, but rather, a 63-year-old peacetime US Army infantry vet from the 1980s who’s been shooting since the age of seven. If you are talking about the best choice for a SHTF rifle for the “average person”, my recommendation would be a good AK pattern rifle, standard 16” barrel length, in 7.62x39mm. I personally have both an AR and an AK, but if I have to participate in the defense of my subdivision, I’m reaching for the AK first, and I submit that for most people who want to have something to address that scenario, the AK is the best choice. Two main reasons for this: - Most people live in suburban or urban environments. Chances are pretty high that in those areas, no one is going to be engaging past 200 yards. Within that range, the 7.62x39mm is a better fighting cartridge in terms of penetration, knock down power, prompt lethality. Now, you go to significantly greater distances, 300 yards, 400 yards, the 5.56 NATO is more efficient and holds up better in terms of energy and trajectory, especially out of a 20” barrel, but the vast majority of people are never going to be shooting that far so it doesn’t matter in real world terms. For the engagement envelope most people would face, 7.62x39mm is a punchier, deadlier round. - Then there’s ease of maintenance. This is especially important for people who don’t have that much experience with firearms, who are new to the idea of having a defensive carbine. ARs are fun to shoot and easy to shoot accurately, which are obviously advantages, but they are more demanding of maintenance and don’t take kindly to neglect. Field stripping, cleaning, and putting back together an AK will be a lot less intimidating to a relatively new shooter, and if he or she goes a while without cleaning it, no big deal. I would add that even in the environment you are in, there in the hill country of Washington state, you might be better served by an AK. I can see you’ve got a lot of brush, twigs, etc. to deal with out there, which has been known to distract the flight path of light high velocity 5.56 projectiles on the way to their targets. 7.62x39mm just punches through that stuff. Both Paul Harrell - who is more of an AR guy - and that Rob Ski fellow at AKOU have done videos demonstrating this fact. I’m not saying the AK has it all over the AR; the AR definitely has advantages of its own. But for the average person in most places in the US, if they are new to military-style semiautomatic rifles and are getting their first one, I would say the AK is a better way to go.
@robertgoodrich8953
@robertgoodrich8953 4 ай бұрын
Fortunately most people with rifles are not newbies and can easily shoot and clean an AR. I would submit that a .308 is a better choice than an AK. More of the same advantages but doesn’t veer off course after 200 yards. You might be surprised how often a longer shot pops up, or the need to be within a few MOA at shorter distance. The Ukraine War has eliminated most of the cheap Russian ammo that made AK’s so desirable. And I just have a problem with using the weapons of my enemy. To each their own, though. All 3 of these weapons, in the right hands , with the right ammo, can be very effective.

Lube your weapon, running it dry even w/ magic coated BCG's is a bad idea, if you have to swap lubricants due to temp take the small amount of time to do so. Combat sucks, it sucks even worse when what's going to save your ass doesn't work because of improper maintenance of gear. There's allot of misconceptions out there about "self lubing" coatings, you keep them lubed, the benefit is in case you run out of lube you can fire your weapon longer. Understand that when it comes to a gun battle your objective is to save your or others ass, it's not to somehow be easy on equipment so it last for the next thousand years. Keep your stuff that needs to be lubed, lubed.

Loved this video. I always enjoy seeing how others set up their rifles. For example if I can’t cowhitness through my dot I always run back up sights or have a QD scope mount. I run 2 set ups. Either a dot with magnifier or a LPVO with a dot on top or on a 45 degree mount. But those 2 set ups do different jobs. But being in an urban setting and even rural a good all round 16” with LPVO , and 45 degree dot with flip up irons is a one rifle fits all well rifle

I have a few suggestions, with a AR you can swap out calibers and barrel lengths. Not legally unless you use a pistol and what looks like an end to the pistol brace rule. Buy a striped lower receiver, it is like less attention getting than the registration for a full rifle. It's not that hard to assemble. Your end game is to buy piecemeal and on sale as well as maximizing your options. Theoretically, you could go from a close in rifle to a realistically long range rifle with a single lower. There are a number of recent innovations in calibers, like 6mm ARC or 22 ARC that fit in an AR lower, with a upper, bcg, and magazine change. The ammunition is slightly higher and you will have to buy it online but available. And that's the beauty of it you save so much on just having to buy the upper. The scope could remain in the upper. For your lower, you can get a drop in trigger, and the adjustable stock that locks up, or go the fixed stock which you could get the adjustable cheek pad and length adjusters. As of this date, a 6mm ARC upper with correct BCG can be ordered for slightly more than $300.

5.56 is a great round for beginners and small, lightweight people(most, but not all, women). A real rifle is a .308. Need to carry less ammo and fewer mags. One hit, one stop. Several lightweight .308 variants out there. Both SCAR 17 and POF Revolution/ Rogue have both lightweight and low recoil. .308 is relatively cheap, especially since lower round counts to be purchased. Can do anything from cqb to 800 yard shots. Not so much for rabbits! That is what the backup .22 or .38 pistol in your pocket is for!

I like most of what you said, but I disagree with running your rifle dry, and the Fail Zero BCG. The dry part because I've spent time in austere conditions in the infantry and seen dry rifles fail far more often than wet ones. The Fail Zero thing for 2 reasons: The coating tends to mess with tolerances, making a very inefficient gas system and I saw a Fail Zero BCG fail miserably on a SOTAR autopsy (if I remember correctly the tolerances were horribly off on headspace and the lugs sheared off the bolt).
@RedEarthRider

Agreed the only time I have ever seen rifle do better dry is in desert conditions. The dust and loose sand will get into the gun no matter what you do. If wet the dust will stick very badly. I would not trust the Fail Zero Bolt and carrier with my life just run a reputable one like BCM.

that taped up tourniquet is virtually useless. you have about 40 seconds to get that off and in place. No way you are going to be hurt to the point of needing it and still be able to get rid of the duct tape and apply it, in that amount of time. you should really think about securing it in a different way or on your person, easily extracted and applied. I live in Ukraine (17 years) i take aid to our guys 2 to 3 times a week and see all kinds of wounds and problems. The main takeaway from a real life SHTF situation, is that, bleed stop is the #1 thing. Timing is everything. anyway, like the video, but that just stood out to me as a big no go.

My favorite isn't even mine. It rides up front in my assigned patrol car. It's DD Mk. 18 with a Gemtech. The light is a Surefire over the top of the rail, it's one for a pistol. It has an Aimpoint, no magnifier because that wouldn't fit right in that locking rack. If rules don't matter anymore It's going to become my rifle.

I just use regular gun oil, you ain't gotta change out your oil, thats BS. Don't hurt nothin and my Ruger AR-556 is gonna serve me just fine as a shit hit the fans gun. I'm getting a cryptic coatings dlc bcg for it which is far superior to any nickel boron bcg and has even more lubricity. You also still need to not run your gun dry, ARs especially of the ruger variety like running wet. It'll be less so once i get the dlc bcg. I also plan to geta chrome lined barrel as it will add to the longevity of the rifle as a primary weapon. I can also change over to any caliber I want just about and that includes .300 HAM'R which is ballistically superior to 5.56 and 7.62x39. It's what the military should be using, but I digress. I definitely think I wanna get that bolt release thing for inside the trigger guard. That'll make reloads faster to a point, but you would have to get used to the new battery of arms for something like that. You have to redo your muscle memory in order to adapt to it. I can reload my ruger with a blindfold on and I've trained myself to do so in the event of being blinded by something or having water in my eyes or whatever. It also helps your muscle memory if you do it this way because it works if it's pitch black outside too.

The AR platform is the most versatile rifle system in the world. With so many in the hands of private citizens, there is a practically universal commonality of components. You can run any chambering by just changing the magazines, the complete upper, recoil buffer and spring.

I don’t know why everybody pushes these 14.5- 16 inch recce wannabe rifles like you guys are hunting dudes in the woods at 300 meters plus. M193 is barley going fast enough to fragment at 300 meters out of a 14.5 rifle, besides the fact how are you going to prove self defense past 25 yards lol, even if there’s a break down of rule of law at some point your going to have to answer for the people you put down. People would be much better off with a defensive ar with a 10.5 or 11.5 setup. You guys need to stop day dreaming of fighting in the woods like you’re in the revolutionary war, you’re supposed to be a prepared person and focus on defense of your property and family. not trying to be an insurgent in the woods.
