The most important thing to do to improve is never said. I only heard Matt Edgar mention it. When you practice, practice with intent. No distractions and full mindfulness. It is harder that you think, but darts is 10% form and 90% mind. You will never grasp the mind without practicing with intent.

It is a good point and something I haven’t stressed In this particular video as technique is very important especially when creating fundamentals. I do agree this is important but darts is in my opinion very much about technique and fine tuning hence why Phil Taylor is no longer playing at his former level- practice and his technique. Confidence is another big factor which I could do a video on it’s own.

Hi mate! Long story short. I had a bad accident in the army, suffered from mental health issues and then also lost my company in covid. I’m 43 and just started university. I started to play darts and it’s really helped my mental health massively. Due to this, I’ve set a goal like yourself. I’m going to practise for 2-3hrs everyday. Your videos are a huge help. My averages are so inconsistent and after this video, I noticed I was pulling back to the right. I’ll work on that. Averages are 70 for a few legs, then 50! So frustrating.

Glad to hear your going in the right direction with your life mate , thanks for watch and glad they are a small help. It takes a lot of consistency and patience is the key and not getting frustrated. I am still working on elements of my game now but nothing helps more than solid practice sessions to give you confidence, keep at it and all the best 💪🙏

@@RR10000Hours that’s my biggest issue. I had played for 3 months. Then we lost our house and I had no practise area, got all set up again this week. Picked up the darts and it wasn’t big scores, but nice grouping and felt so good!! In the afternoon I was awful!! then I was fuming!! I’m really trying to practise in a positive way as you point out. Doing small 25-30 min sessions on different things. Such as scoring, then checkouts and so on. Just keeping cool when you’re miles away is hard.
@RR10000Hours Жыл бұрын
@@ChrisTankCrasher learning to deal with the mental ups and downs has been the hardest part for me, you have to accept sometimes your just not playing well and try trust your game and don’t change something every time it’s not going right. But see what is causing issues and work in the weakest parts of your game 💪
@ChrisTankCrasher Жыл бұрын
The last few days, when I’m playing actual matches, my averages have dipped. Did you find this at first? It’s like the more I practise the worse i get. However, this is my first week of practise and only month 4 of picking up a dart! I also realised, my higher averages 65-70 came when I play high level players. So I’m not hardly attempting checkouts, so that’s not helped with knowing where I am. But my averages was more consistent around 57-60 level, which I was told is ahead for the time I’ve done. That’s now gone to 50-52 each day. Maybe I’m over thinking
@RR10000Hours Жыл бұрын
Forget about averages and only assess them say once a month it’s hard to do but it’s important or you will get more frustrated. I saw a big drop when playing competitive matches in person, and if you play better players your average will be inflated. To get a true average , play a longer format game say first to 6 legs on a lower level or similar level opponent. But practice heavy then rest, your fatigue will massively affect performance due to microtears in the muscles of you are playing a lot

Great video. I used to be very good at darts in university. Played in the team. Hadn’t played darts for 30+ years and recently started playing again. I’ve started getting better but form is not anywhere close to where I was. I used to be very consistent at throwing straight. Hardly ever got 26. Trying to replicate it now

Great advice, especially the straight dart rule. On the mindset thing, do not fixate on averages. Always get the win even if it is ugly and the averages will eventually come.

hi! nice video! I am 15 years old and I started playing darts about 3 months ago. Ive already hit 5 180's and lots of 140+ scores. I just struggle to make the dart fly as you showed at the very start of the video. Your dart flies up and then falls point-down into the board. I see many pros do this technique and I just don't know how to achieve the flight - my darts fly dead straight and land flat. Thanks again! Greetings from Slovakia

What you are saying is so true, for me it is indeed keeping the dart straight, as I hold the dart with four fingers, my ringfinger is on the beginning of the point but sometimes its a bit further and thats what makes me throw off, in a perfect throw, Im holding the dart with 3 fingers and my ringfinger is just holding it very slightly at the beginning of the tip, I use to throw with 3 fingers but using another one is giving me more stabilty, at least that works for me

How do I make adjustments for being shorter? I’m not sort but I am 5’8” and I feel like that’s a disadvantage from playing taller people.
@RR10000Hours Жыл бұрын
Look at Phil Taylor. Don’t make any adjustments, it’s actually easier to throw up accurately (or into resistance) than down. Yes long arms and height is closer but it’s not a disadvantage. Just focus on aiming at a consistent height even if you have to aim higher up the board to compensate. 👍

As a beginner,are you saying i should concentrate more on hitting the top black part of the 20 rather than always trying to go for the treble? Great vid bud!
@RR10000Hours Жыл бұрын
Yes start higher to get consistency in practice and a better throw overall, if you feel confident in a match then start going lower, unless your darts lie particularly flat then would suggest just below the treble to give the best chance of hitting barrels and going into the treble etc . Hopefully this isn't too much of a silly question, but when throwing and you want that straight line, should I be throwing from my nose or maybe an inch or two below my eyes. I tried throwing from my mouth but the dart always dropped downward, thanks?
@RR10000Hours Жыл бұрын
I personally throw just below eyeline but whatever is comfortable will be better in the long run for you. Having a lower start point means you have a bigger arc in the throw making it more difficult to straight out the darts path to the board like a bullet travelling, hence why top players generally throw a dart faster that non pros etc.👍

What if your anatomy keeps you from gripping the dart so that the point is directly facing the board like your showing at 7:59? Mine is always facing way to the left. I can turn the wrist some but then everything tenses up. Tried different finger placements but the ones that set my point straight dont allow me to hold the dart well at all.
@RR10000Hours Жыл бұрын
Stand to the right of the board in this case until it has a natural path which is straight from your grip. It’s more important you are coming through straight than starting there. Most importantly find a position to allows your grip to relax or you will struggle with release and timing 👍
