As someone who loves many kinds of creative expression, I'd highly recommend attending your local gallery's shows and exhibits. I am on a grant review committee for my local arts association, one of a group responsible for granting money to artists brave enough to write about their work and apply for money. I myself had a one person show of stereographic photography some time ago which is where I learned about grant writing. To paraphrase Lucy, "put yourself out there and go for the gold." You never know what you might achieve.

Just yesterday my wife and I were talking about social media in general and how we really need to spend less time on it. That's one of my new year's resolutions. But wait, it's still 2022...
@LucyLumen2 жыл бұрын
Hey Ricardo! Yes absolutely it’s a good resolution to have. Although I think social media can be a very useful and creative thing if you use it correctly and don’t get sucked into comparison or doom scrolling. Hope you guys have a great weekend!

I have been showing drawings, paintings and photos for decades in various galleries for the last 30 years and I learned early that you need to put your stuff out there if you want to be seen ... editing in your basement will never get you anywhere!!! Oddly enough i have many people who know me as only a photographer and an equal amount of people who know me as a guy who draws!!! I just dig that people know me!!!

Question: I looked at Darkroom and did not see a way to look at other or any artist website or artwork. How can I look at other works?

I thought starting a KZbin channel was going to be the most difficult thing on the planet, but then my main channel hit 1K within its first week and it honestly gave me the push I need to finally start my photography channel. It's still going to be hard, but it's nowhere near as hard as I was telling myself it would be

AWESOME! And thanks for the shout out :D There is so much beyond Instagram, while it still is pretty much where a lot of people are, there are so many others outside it as well and often its easy to get stuck or trapped in the metasphere. Really great examples of where else folks can showcase their photography and be seen and definitely you have to shout about yourself tho this is the hardest thing for me lol but its so true :)
@LucyLumen2 жыл бұрын
Thanks miss molly! You are killing it across so many platforms right now. I’m excited to see what else you do in 2023. I was so happy to shout you out and use you as an example, thank you 🙏🏻 🎞️📷

Thanks for a fun and informative video. So far, my photography has been mostly for me, and a bit for family/friends. Your presentation reminds me I have the potential to develop it further. Also, congratulations on your growing audience. Obviously, your hard work was bound to pay off.

Very informative! I just go back into photography (again) and I've been frustrated with the small size of pics on IG. I've been meaning to look into other platforms and then your vid came up in my feed. Nice vid as well. Subbed...
@orestes1984 Жыл бұрын
Yep, I've been thinking about expanding my reach (because I can and have enough knowledge how to). I followed Jason and Caleb's KZbin podcast recently though, and I'm feeling it. I'm starting to think I really should not care about being "popular." They talked about a thing I like to call Vampire content eaters... It can feel like that sometimes, with so much content out there, on average, about any topic you want to follow, there is really an unhealthy relationship with content, where people basically suck the blood out of you... Every time I ramp up enough to think about posting content more regularly, I get a build up, and some likes and maybe follows, but yeah, I dunno, if I think about it, and then look at the Metrics, as soon as you stop posting regularly, your metrics fall through the floor and when you start think about it being metrics it can really drain the fuck out of your life.... Sometimes I just stop doing anything photography related because I hate it... I get in a funk... and I think to myself about why I bother with it... Because while I enjoy it, I hate putting so much content out there for maybe 30 likes on something only for the next fickle person to move onto the next fad... I think maybe I should be one of those people who takes a whole bunch of photos then puts them in a shoe box only for them to be found by someone after I'm dead? I don't really know.... I've been having some of those moments lately with everything I shoot. There's also that other thing, I like what I like but my audience may not necessarily like the same type of content as the content I like to shoot... There seems to be very little synchronicity in this game at times.

I really need to populate that darkroom store... I made an account forever but never got around to it. The biggest issue is that most of my scans are low res 😅
@LucyLumen2 жыл бұрын
You totally should get onto that Phil! I know what you mean though I had low res scans when I started but now I always get high res ones in case of bangers I want to sell on there or submit to competitions etc. thanks for watching lovely.

Starting a YT for photography can be a double-edged sword though. Especially for Landscape photography. Any photo taken at a national forest or state park without a permit can land you in prison and paying hefty fines if you upload any video onto KZbin. And not every KZbinr who is starting out can afford to pay a non-refundable 200-400 dollar application fee without the guarantee that you get the permit.

Submitting to vanity exhibitions for a fee is detrimental to your career. The pseudo gallery model of business is out of control.

I sort of swerved into the digicam theme via one month two cameras and the fact that already had several. Not exactly sure where I’m going yet but I’ve been involved with photography for a long time. Never been a pro photographer but for some reason I keep at it. Perhaps because I’ve been making images on paper over half my life.
