Whenever I shoot color, it's on Kodak's Vision 3. To my amazement, my local lab both stocks and develops it at a comparable if not cheaper price to C41. The colors are very reminiscent of my results - the airiness, those slightly washed out dream-like colours... Mine still has the RemJet layer, though - so no halations. I love how they show up so prominently in your photos - I think the snow both gets them to appear and makes for a setting that matches the stock's *vibe* perfectly! Great video, I'll binge watch your stuff in the near future. I have to say that cyberpunk film piqued my interest, too!

@teocrawford
@teocrawford 4 ай бұрын
Thank you David! Ohh I’ve just always been lucky😅 The new CT scanners will probably wreck your films but the old scanners (for us probably still the “normal” ones that don’t look like a huge round airplane turbine) are fine up to ISO 1600 I think. My Lomo 800 went through just fine. And so now I always try to find out whether the airports I’m going to already have the new scanners. Until now, they didn’t, but once they do… well I guess I’ll have to buy my film in the country then🤷🏻‍♂️

Funny - it’s the exact opposite for me :) On artificial lights, I don’t mind the artificial glow. Also, it’s usually only around a few details that catch your attention anyway. With these photos, I found the halation a little overpowering and distracting.

Hey Theo, sick video! Which dehancer filmstock are you using to grade the video here? Thanks!
@teocrawford
@teocrawford 4 ай бұрын
In this video I only used Dehancer to a minimal extent. When I use it I don't always apply a film look and only use the effects Bloom, Halation and Grain. It really depends on how happy I am with the look I get with the grading I do before hand in Lumetri. When I use filmstock, it's usually FujiPro 400H. I've also used one of the Kodak Vision films. But I always change the look a bit further than that using the colour head settings :)

Hi Teo! Really like your content. Can you please advise if you have some tips for shooting in winter? I heard that if you shoot outside in cold temperatures and then come indoors - you can get condensation inside the camera and it can lead to some damage (?). Is there any advise on how to prevent this? (if it's even true, because I'm not sure)
@teocrawford
@teocrawford 4 ай бұрын
Yes, condensation is not cool, your camera will not like it. Basically all you need to do is not openly expose your camera from one condition (cold and dry air outside) the other (warm and humid air) at once. If you simply pack your camera into your bag before heading inside and then let it warm up inside the bag without opening it the camera should be fine. By keeping it in the bag the temperature and air conditions change slower and more gradually, so it shouldn't damage the camera. I usually pack my camera into my camera bag, then head inside and at home I'll not take my camera out for at least an hour, but I usually just go about the rest of my day and take it out many hours later or even on the next day.

Great video Teo. Just a question, are this photos edited? thanks
@teocrawford
@teocrawford 4 ай бұрын
Hard to say, because what part of the conversion process do you count as editing? I scan the negative and then convert them with Negative Lab Pro (NLP). However NLP only gives me its interpretation of the negative which is often clearly wrong in which case I edit things such as the white balance, tint and some hues in the colour head settings. I do also help out with balancing the brightness and contrast. All this could be seen editing, but in my opinion colour correction is the better term for this. I don't then save the file as a .tiff and further edit it in Lightroom, because I'm mostly happy with what I can achieve with NLP :)

Awesome video! What are some shops in Tokyo that you recommend for affordable 35mm film? I'll be stopping by Tokyo for several days later this month.
@teocrawford
@teocrawford 4 ай бұрын
ughhh affordable film in Japan.. hmm, well the easiest tip is to not buy in central Tokyo haha. I found my best prices in little local shops in small towns when I was travelling through Nagano. Also just don't buy Kodak if possible, because Kodak is quite expensive in Japan, whereas if you manage to find a place that still sells some Fuji you can usually get those for a better price. So I can't really give you specific recommendations - I just know that central Tokyo has a couple cool shops, but they're certainly not cheap - e.g. Lemoncamera. Sometimes I've found film in unexpected random places, where the price was also quite acceptable for example in LOFT.

I reckon the red light halo of this film looks slightly similar to Harom phoenix200 :D

Any way you could post the name of the film shop in Japan if you still remember it? Going there in a few months!

Great pictures and avery interesting vid. But for my taste there is way too much halation. Makes me shiver more than the cold weather

you need to just take your camera with you places. go for a walk, bring the camera. go for a vacation, bring the camera. go walk around the busiest area in your city, bring your camera. Think of it like working out; nobody WANTS to get up and go to the gym, but once you're there, it's much easier to finish the routine, and you probably feel great afterwards, and are glad you did it. Once you have a routine, and it's just what you do, it's easier. You're a photographer, you take photos, it's just what you do. Now get out there, and just do.

Isn't the film stock just re-spooled Vision 3 without the anti halation layer? Not "Sora 200". Great photos!

it probaby is, like lots of brands do nowadays... Kodak vision 3 has been the easy cash grab for like 5 years now, new brands popping every week respooling it, I'm kind of sick of this tbh.
