I'm assistant coaching my son's baseball team this year. I find it hard to identify and correct batting mechanics issues with the kids on my team (9 to 11 year olds). I've watched this video a couple of times, and it will be very helpful this season. Thank you.

I will paint you a picture of my swing. My swing is not technically this good. But a few cheat moves I've been using my whole life is I swing with my big muscles. Gleutes , abs, shoulders. Quick hands. Good balance. I explode on the ball with loose arms but strong middle. I've never had a real coach so I tried to copy ken Griffeys swing. I always try to feel my weight into the earth and make sure that my weight transfers from back to front at impact. I'm 6'2 220 which helps. I am the most consistent homerun hitter in my league. Not to be arrogant. My misses are hard hit balls for the most part. The ultimate cheat code I have found to power was once everything is in place is exaggerating the hip turn without flailing like an idiot of course. Watch bryce Harpers swing he does a loading hip movement , then he explodes with the hips. Just 30 years of hitting put into writing. You are great at explaining and teaching . Ty! I can't wait for summer.

And I never work at everything all at once. I work at one thing at a time. And then once game time hits I turn off my brain and my body does it automatically. I just wish I had been coached at a young age. It would ofshortened the learning years. My 2 cents

That was an awesome video. I think launch position is so important and what you said about knob facing the catcher (CRUCIAL). I would add that focusing on your elbow power falls in the same boat... remember MLB players always push w/ extension from their elbows in most cases. I'm going to share with my 10U group! Thanks

Really good, especially from 9:30 onward. Can relate to that, “swatting” motion rather than extension in that last one. My son tries too hard to make contact by flattening out the bat and checking himself at the point of contact which leads to, “pop ups” all the time.

This is great advice! Love the explanation on each mistake as well. Can you tell me a little more about where you want to make contact within the swing? Meaning do you want to contact before, middle, or out in front of plate? My thinking is that your swing is fastest early on (so before the front of plate), and it gradually slows down as you follow through the swing completely. If there was a way to measure swing speed from a bird's eye view for example, would you see the swing gradually get slower as the bat passes the right shoulder? Thanks again, great stuff here. Sharing with my team now
@dolfln29323 жыл бұрын
You should be making contact at about your front foot. Don’t base it off the plate, because everyone stands in different places when they get to. The plate

As far as bat angle I was always taught it should essentially split your helmet in half at that point in your stride which is another way to think about it. You essentially make this point with the knob being pointed towards the catcher.

For any ball player from 10 to 14 years old take this guys advice like gold. I was always a tad undersized buy was always a good hitter. Hit around .400 to .450 throughout highschool with 10 plus homers my junior and senior year and im a whopping 5 7 170. Ai loved hitting though. My fav players were artists at the plates like Manny Ramirez..miguel cabrera pujols.etc. so i studied hitting and studied and studied more. I teach hitting and get most of the dialogue from this channel because im a visual teacher. And this guy explains things very well. At 5 foot 7 and 170 lbs i had to utlize every ounce of weight and torque to hit like i wanted but also had to stay within myself to be able to minimize swings anf misses and go the other way with pop er way with pop. Essentially without realizing it i developed a swing where i created a rubber band effect with my stride. Load and swing. I taught myself how to hit my looking at my favite hitters and coping them. I would literally do 1000 reps simple things like a stride. No swing. Just a stride. Until it became muscle memory. I wish there was a channel like this when i was 14. Knowing me. I wouldnt have watched it because i was dead set on learning everything about hitting from slow mo manny swings. But it would have been my loss. U can develop a beautiful cut following this dudes advice.. So long as u r willing to do the reps and are atleast a little athletic. U domt have to be the biggest guy on ur team or lift the most weight to hit lasers. The ball coming in and Ur body can supply plenty of power to all fields if u use it correctly.

I bought a repetitive motion program as a hobby job/business. In watching many, many clips of kids batting (at traveling level) I found it interesting that the kids were hitting the ball out in front of them or not at all. Balls that got even or behind their feet were either fouled off or missed (in the game). Kids did not turn their head and follow the ball to the bat (particularly when they did not swing) to It would seem that addressing this issue is important.

Usually when I come up to bat, I stay out of the box for like ten seconds, take a couple of swings, get back into the box, dig in with my back foot then wave my bat back and forth in front of me like 3 times, then step, stride towards the ball, and go through the ball. Thanks Coach Justin your videos are really helpful. Also, do you think those are good steps?

what should i do, i cant get my swing around fast enough and my stance is stiff
@noahrobbins69183 жыл бұрын
I was in a stump very recently and me and you have the exact same problem. So this is what I did. The main problems why you can’t get around fast enough is for many reasons 1 to big of a stride. Try sound a barely lift up your door and then unload. The best reason is that your hands are dropping. My dad helped me by keeping my bar on the back of my bat right until the pitch is to me. If you want so more advise or more depth call me 8157188891. I can also help with pitching. My dad went D1 in baseball as a pitcher but he was also batting 3rd the whole time there. Just call me but respond to me first so I know it’s you!
