My older two sons are in prison. My oldest for 34 months and my middle for 54 months. I have 3 sons and my youngest is so far good and has not been in trouble. It's hard for a Mother to see her children in prison but I do support them and try to keep positive. When I talk to them I tell them the positive things they will have when they get out. This is the first time for both of them to be in prison. I have to say to Jose you gave yourself that chance. Tell yourself thank you because you are the one who made that step for the better. Thank you so much for positive vibes, smiles, and hope. You are what society needs to see. So I will pray for you and I can't wait to share your story with my boys. God bless you!

Jose Flores is the perfect example of don’t judge a book by its cover. He might have tattoos that make him look scary but he’s beautiful on the inside. I’ve never been in jail and I don’t have a single tattoo but I feel connected to him and his struggle. We all need to be better people and learn from each other’s flaws, struggles and mistakes. We are all brothers and sisters, we need to have love for one another. Gob bless the prisoners that are changing their ways and becoming better people. Much love! Ps. Jose your smile lights up the room, keep shining!

I just watched this and it was inspiring to see people turn their lives around. I know some people will feel the way they feel about felons, but knowing some myself, everyone has a situation, and a story we don't know about. I commend these men for turning their lives around. We don't know how much we're truly capable of until we try and believe in ourselves. Life is also precious, we need to be more grateful, and make every moment count.

This is the best short film, that I have seen in a while. I hope more prisons start doing programs like 5 block, to help the inmates that disserve the chase to be in programs like this one. and for Jose, my respects! he's and example, that only you can limit your self. he was very encouraging to other people. Put God first and he would do amazing things in your life. I hope he gets parole soon, so he can continue with his dreams. Congratulation to all the inmates that are changing their lives and showing positive things. God bless you all.

I did ten years in CDC 94-04. Fortunately I made it out. A year after working a minimum wage job I started my own business. That was 19 years ago. I now employ 33 and have generated well over 50 million dollars. I’m beyond blessed for the opportunity I got when that door opened. But when that door opens, it’s on you to kick it down and work your ass off to scale that opportunity and succeed. Trials will come but it’s the way you navigate your way out of them. I dropped out of school in 7th grade. I gang banged my whole life and the only thing I learned in prison was how to deal with different personalities and patience. Those two traits have got me a long way in business. Seek and you will find that door. Don’t give up be patient you deserve what you put out.

I’m a CO. And this made me smile a lot. The dog program is an amazing program. I’d love to see that for my clients I’m going to talk to higher ups about it. This video is the closest to “real” jail Life. The guys in this Made me feel so proud of them. I love my job making them see not everyone is angry and mean. My purpose is to help change lives positively and look forward to work every day. There’s so much more talent in art being wasted. The paintings is a great program too. I’ve been given some amazing drawings or art from my inmates. Great video. Good job Jose. Keep up the excellent work. You rock buddy.

Hearing him speak is inspiring and yet so professionally communicated. I would NEVER guess his face by just hearing him speak and his voice alone. As an educated Hispanic, seeing him and ALL of the others resilience is astonishing... Amazing actually. Why can't this be organized and introduced into more facilities beyond this place? Jose definitely needs to connect and join forces with groups/correctional officials to integrate this type of rehabilitation throughout the US systems!!!!!!!!! My goodness, get this guy a freaking titled position and private office so he can start planning, paving and leading the way beyond just that one facility. ASAP. Whoa. Literally speechless. Sensational documentary. This needs to be shown in schools everywhere, better still, get positive minded guys like these who have lived the life, taken responsibility for their actions, recognised the errors of their ways and who are intent on bettering themselves and moving forward, go into schools and impart their wisdom to young people. I'm from Australia & spent over 30 years working with disaffected youth and got so sick and tired of young University educated social & youth justice workers talking to young people about staying out of trouble when their target audience could plainly see that the closest they had ever come to crime and violence was when they logged on to the crime stoppers website.

We reunited after 26 yrs thanks to our daughter finally reaching out to him. 10 yrs ago my husband went into the Seminary program and became a field minister. These programs which turn into jobs really do wonders for our inmates. So many want to change, want to do better but the opportunity isn't there. So I'm so happy more states are introducing these programs.

Amen- I did 100% of 2 years in CDC, 2014-2016. Got out and have kept my head down! I learned a lot from the experience, what I wanted to do with my life, what I didn’t want to do with my life. It’s not like this on most main line California yards. Mad props to you fellas for making something out of nothing! I think it took me 3 years to get out of the ptsd from the experience and not be alarmed with people getting close to me or drivers being jerks. It took the same amount of time to take deep breaths again. I’ve been drug free since, and I don’t drink alcohol. I take no medication and I work full time. I provide for my children and I don’t harm myself or anyone else. I found the Lord in prison and I’m never walking away from him. God bless these men. Keep up the good fight!

I was a LEO for three years and I hated how the system was just a revolving door for reoffenders. It is a disservice to our humanity. As a Marine, I could not be part of the problem. But this has brought tears to my eyes and it was about time we rehabilitate our community instead of condemning them for life. I am glad to see a positive change in the legal system. When I first saw Flores, I couldn’t help but to see the ink. Before getting halfway through the documentary, I could see into him. Keep the good work and be good. I spent five years on A-Yard. Sep of 2001 to May 2006. Back then it was called the “Honor Yard,” which was created by a couple of “old school” reformed convicts in the year 2000. There was talk way back then about opening up 5 Block to a dog program. It was a great honor and privilege to be on that yard and away from all of the madness that was going on at that prison and around the system. I was in CDC from 1997 to 2020. It was a long journey, and I learned so much from so many people. And watching this video and seeing Jose, I could see the transformation in him. He definitely deserves another chance. All of those men deserve another chance because they’re giving themselves a chance to be the change that they want to see. “ It’s never too late to start to become the person that you were always meant to be.”

@@ahuramazda980 While he himself is a God of second chances, he would expect you to pay for your crimes and serve your sentences. Paul was in prison twice. One time he stayed around to show the guard that he wasn't going to run away. He was a changed man - when he was called Saul, he was persecuting and even killing Christians. God changed his heart. Most serial killers have something wrong in their heads and don't get the help they need. It would never be safe to let them out on the street again. Too many prisoners say "I've found Jesus in here and I'm a changed man now." Jesus would probably say "then finish your time and stop using me as an excuse to try and get out early. I know your heart." If you are remorseful, prove it. Like this man has.

I’ve done 23 years of my life locked up. It’s great to see that they now have good programs like this in prison even though I haven’t been back in over 10 years I’m glad to see that people in there still have a chance even after getting Life without parole and you can tell by the environment and the attitudes that these people are truly happy even though they’re behind bars, I hope to see more of this program in all the prisons across California and not just a limited few where it’s going to be hard for some people to get into them, everybody should share this video and it should get a lot more views because at the moment of me watching it it has a little bit less than 20,000 views and that’s sad, people out There should know that there are programs like this going on and that there are changes being made inside of Prison, God bless all these people. God bless their families and God bless everybody who is watching this video and reading these comments. 🙏🏽✌🏽👍🏽🤟🏽

I' so glad I watched this because this is the complete opposite of most of the prison videos/documentaries that we usually watch. These people genuinely care about rehabilitation for these guys and it's so awesome and positive. We are always watching crime shows and prison videos lol because for some reason a couple like us with no criminal records likes to watch these, but this is the best one that I have seen because guys actually have hope and have a path back to their families. This is what society wants to see happen in prisons across this country. I am not deluded enough to believe that this works on everyone but when they finally have enough of prison and gang life this should be an opportunity for all inmates. There has got to be hope for them. They need something to work towards. Most are thrown in prison to rot. Some do deserve that but it’s not even the majority. Most can be healed and strive for better. This program is a treasure and should be emulated everywhere. These men are able to give a hug to one another and care about and encourage one another. They even shed some tears with one another. That is the ultimate sign for me of an environment where they can grow and change. Amazing job Jose.

Jose Flores, you are an inspiration. I have to admit, I probably would have been afraid to have the guy you were before you found your purpose move into my neighbourhood, but the man you are now? I wouldn’t just be proud to call you my neighbour, I would help you move in next door! When we treated damaged people like they’re monsters, is it any surprise when they come out of prison angrier and more violent? We need to remember, most prisoners don’t stay in prison forever. If we want our communities to be safer and happier then we need to treat every member of our community with respect and kindness, even those who have made mistakes. Especially those who have made mistakes and done their time already. Life on the outside shouldn’t be harder than it is on the inside and prisoners should be treated like people who can learn from their mistakes and do better with their second chances. ❤

This is the reformation that more former felons need to discuss. Too many KZbinrs out here who have done a year in prison, acting like they've done 20 years hard time, crying for reform but not changing a thing about themselves. THIS man is such an inspiration.

Damn Hozer is not only a solid homie but an amazing Individual. In all reality he applies the self discipline lifestyle the homies require from us but targets it in a positive Direction and you see exactly what you get just watching him. I hope the best for Jose and the rest of the fellas there. Amazing video im glad I was able to watch it in full.

He can really give back to the community if given a chance too. Prime example of someone that changed a negative into a positive

These prisons should get more attention and exposure than the "infamous" prisons the public tends to marvel over.

My brother in law is going through this program and it is simply AMAZING this has transformed him! I LOVE his passion for life and education. He called is to watch this and it truly brought tears to me because Jose’s story resembled my brother in law, and this gives them the best opportunity to change. Thank you to the creator of this video.

I love that not once did you hear poor me. Every single person took accountability and responsibility for what they've done and are truly working to be what they never believed they could be. Definitely need more programs like this....help develop more people like this instead of counting them out because of their past❤ #keepgoing

As a prior inmate of DOC, I can relate of being locked up. I've been back on the streets now for over 14 years now. What an inspirational film! I applaud those guys and felt inside of cheering for each and every inmate that they talked to. I had tears in my eyes by the end of the video. Thank you so much for making this!!!!

brother you are a beacon of hope and carisma. We all make mistakes, and some are redeemable. Our system is less than perfect but is workable is you have the right set-mind. Don't let the past define who you really are. We all deserve a second chance in life. Jose, you're making a positive impact on so many people, and many will follow your steps for a better life and knowledge. Cuídate y sigue adelante.

Really inspiring, most people have a negative mindset towards incarcerated people. I believe with the right person who dedicates their time in helping inmates there can actually be a better future for them if they are released
