There is so much information to process in Tony’s longer tutorials that some of the details are easy to miss. Short videos like this concentrating on just one aspect of boxing are gold.

I actually used to do the opposite of the second mistake and stand too low,'cause I wanted to "sit" on my punches better. Thankfully my coach noticed it and I generally corrected it by now. Still I need to work on my distance management,'cause I tend to go in too much instead of throwing longer punches,using my reach advantage as a taller guy. I still have SO much to learn when it comes to boxing,yet looking at all its nuance it's rather encouraging and inspiring than disheartening. Couldn't've chosen better when it comes to picking a martial art to train!

Hello Coach Tony, i need your help on this one Im an MMA fighter, and when I spar I always make the mistake of losing my guard (letting my hands down), I cut the range, throw my punches and then on my way back my hands are always down which leads to me eating all the counter punches. Any tips that could help me to keep my guard?

Almost every "correct way to do things" you called out in this video is exactly what boxers do "wrong" when moving over to Muay Thai XD. Muay Thai stance: Square, Tall, High elbows haha.
@vol94
@vol94 Жыл бұрын
Muay Thai is a different martial art. The advantages are that if someone's ducking under your punches and bobbing and weaving a lot, you can quickly catch them with a kick since you're legs are not fat apart. But even with the advantage of quick kicks you cannot denie that you'll get punched more if you stand tall and upright rather than in a bladed stance where your body is more compressed and depending on the stance a good part of your body is facing away from your opponent. Also in a square stance you cannot generate as much punch power with your main hand as you can in a bladed stance since you're gonna bring it out from the back and twist your hips and back leg so that they transfer the energy into your arms. However yes, in a sqaure stance both your hands will be at the front so you can punch more quickly.

I am so grossly overweight that I decided to join a boxing gym to drop some weight and pick up some self defense skills. Today was the first day and Its my very first striking experience. I was so exhausted by the end of the class, but I REALLY loved it and can’t wait to go back and do some more training. I learned fighter stance, moving forward and back, bobbing, jab, straight cross, left hook and right hook. I was overwhelmed at first because I don’t think I EVER threw a punch at anyone in my life 😂 but watching these videos helps a lot with my introduction and basics. I need to drop 60lbs and want to get proficient with my boxing. Who knows, maybe I’ll even do a amateur competition or two just for the fun of it. 😎 Thanks for posting, I’ll be sure to subscribe.

@@nominal9036 Keep working on it, bro! I’m already down 26lbs since I last posted this. I’m feeling much better and my clothes fit me less restricted. I still have 36 more lbs to meet my desired weight, don’t give up on yourself. Be sure to work with a nutritionist and physical trainers to get your desired weight. Believe in yourself, you got this. 💪🏻 I appreciate your support, I still have a long way to go but I am slowly getting there. I’ve made some really good changes to my diet and I couldn’t be happier.

Hey Tony just a question for you. Do you think boxers can lose punch resistance over time? I have been always very durable but my punch resistance doesn’t seem to be there anymore. I’m old now and have been fighting in masters boxing. Not going to fight again but just asking why I was pretty tough but now taken out much more easier. Thanks.
@drinfernodds

I think there's some merit to it. Many fighters who had success absorbing punishment to deal out their own often lose that ability and become more susceptible to knockouts. If they haven't taken a lot of punishment, then they seem to handle it well. Defense goes a long way in preserving your ability to take damage.
