I always tried to envision the bag was a person moving, so as it's engaging I'm basically countering its momentum which has helped with my timing and confidence in sparring (being newer to Muay Thai). What Tony said is basically what I figured out works for me, I'm sure most people it's the same thing. It makes your bag work so much more useful.

My uncle- a golden gloves boxer- taught me to make the heavybag HOP with minimal sway. You’re digging into the bag 3 inches with your knuckles and slightly throwing the punch in a tight circular motion. This is called “Throwing Anchors”. Created in the shipyards of Michigan this is one of the oldest boxing secrets.

Just the video I needed to see as I started heavy bag training in my boxing gym
@kevinotoole8852 жыл бұрын
I’ve practised martial arts for around 15 years. To us this is the ‘kick bag’ as well as heavy back. We control it obviously different to a boxer but similarly with a short sharp stun punch to bring it back under control. Fair play for doing this video, it’s a common site somebody whaling a bag with it swinging everywhere and I remember when I started, you just think you just fly into the bag as hard as you can........but as I can attest to and Tony brilliantly explains that’s not the case. If ye new to it, listen to what he says, the man knows what he’s on about.
