When I was working a couple depts we found it beneficial to take our brush truck and go around to a bunch of different high vegetation and places that was a major hazard and do control burns to minimize the fire danger. We would work with the farmers and help conservation depts in our area.

Another great video of South Metro at work. That was a very busy time period with all the drought conditions. I hope more people watch these video because maybe people will become more aware of the many different kinds of fire hazards there are out there and will be more cautious in dealing with anything flammable. It sure doesn't take much to lose your home to fire and hopefully these will help decrease the number of tragedies.

Sadly fire spread is so rapid in the US because you build so much out of wood with little or no fire protection. Here in the UK (until the advent of cheap shoddy timber framed properties) everything is of brick or concrete construction. By limiting spread we achieve a quicker knockdown. Our first turn rescue pumps also utilise hose reels, not flaked hose, this allows a faster water on time.

You really need to get live hose reals put onto you’re trucks, it would have made a huge difference with initial attack on all those incidents. I am a volunteer Firefighter in Australia and all our fire fighting trucks have a live real(S) that is our go to at the start of a fire to start initial attach as soon a possible as that helps slow the fire, and just makes things much easer.
@JollyGreenGiant944 жыл бұрын
Sounds like what you're referring to is the equivalent of what we would call a pre-connect line here in the U.S. It is a hose that is already connected to the truck so the FFs can grab it, engage the pump and start attacking the fire. www.fireengineering.com/2016/07/21/235251/throw-back-to-basics-preconnect-hose-loads/
@michaell38674 жыл бұрын
@@SouthMetroFireRescuePIO Thank you are you're response. On our Pumpers the live reals are 90 metres of 38mm high pressure (850 lpm at 5500 kPa) pressure hose which works amazing. Our Tankers (wildland firefighting apparatus) also have live reals just not high pressure and work great for Grass and scrub fires.

so whats a safety unit like safety 35 and what's their role on a scene
@megagames36054 жыл бұрын
A safety unit is a safety officer who makes sure the operation is safe.
@QemeH4 жыл бұрын
To expand on this a bit more: The [Incident] Safety Officer (often called ISO) is a member of the command team, usually qualified as battalion chief or higher, who's main focus is risk management. While all other battalion chiefs on scene have a number of units to direct, they are without a directly subordinate unit, free to roam the scene, looking out for additional dangers. You can see examples of those in this Vlog, when the ISO shuts off the power line or when he directs an engine to cut off the gas inside (and then tell incident command about it). They are also responsible for roadside safety, so they'd be implementing lane closures and a step-by-step re-opening plan after the incident, etc. I think the best way to think about it is "a battalion chief without a battalion"...
