I was a forest fire fighter in Northern British Columbia and for me fire season started in May when often where I was stationed there would still be 90 to 120cm of snow on the ground. Often flying to a fire we would encounter snow, sun, wind and rain and get to the fire no snow anywhere but the next valley over would be a metre deep in snow. Fun times.

Hey, it would be cool if there were little text overlays / explanations like what a type one engine is or a strike team is. I would also be happy to see a video about air ambulances. But as always, a great video. Greetings from Germany and always a safe service!

A strike team is a group of 5 engines types 1-7 and a strike team leader and a type 1 engine is a fire engine with a minimum of 1000 GPM water transfer and atleast a 400 gallon tank

Not sure they could do much with air ambulance due to most being contracted out by companies

Type 1 is the standard fire engine, Type 3 is a brush engine and in the case of South Metro, is based off a commercial chassis such as an International Workstar. A Type 6 is a brush truck which is based on a pickup truck chassis. The various types are national and are used so that different departments know what resources they are getting since apparatus names can vary by department/region (Think engine, squad, pumper, etc.). All strike team means is a group of apparatus responding on behalf of the department to another jurisdiction to provide extra resources. As far as what resources are in the strike team, that depends on what the incident calls for. I'm in Florida so our strike teams are usually comprised of a chief, a few engines and a few ambulances for hurricanes.

@QemeH

Most of us will be as respectful as we can with the siren - the fun part of driving code 3 wears off rather quickly for any engineer and after that the only thing that matters is keeping the public, your crew and yourself safe. We try to be silent in the night, around care homes or kindergardens, with animals in sight (especially those that are flight animals like horses or deer) and in similar situation - which is why it is especially frustrating when we get complaints about "being so noisy all the time". 99 times out of 100 it's a safety issue.

I had a question that you might be able to answer. We had record level of snow in Ohio this year. In some areas, the fire hydrants are close enough to the road that, when plowed would burry them in snow and ice. In a fire when time is a factor, would a crew spend time to dig out that hydrant or seek an alternative water source

I can't help but laugh at the use of garden hoses fighting the woodland fire, but I suppose any port in a storm.
@mlo527
@mlo527 3 жыл бұрын
It works. Not trying to put it out with the garden hose but slow/stop it. You soak land around your house to keep the fire back and soak the roof to keep wind blown sparks igniting.

One course is most likely not enough to get an official paid position, but you can of course always start as a volunteer for a non-profit organization to get started. Take some other related courses to amend your competencies especially in the realm of communication (writing and presentation) and interviews..

I used to work at a school. We had the fire alarms go off over some burnt pop corn. The students are so used to having drills every month they all stayed where they were continuing to read and do their work thinking it was another drill. I had to run around and tell them it wasn't a drill. Monthly fire drills are a danger.

Aaaaand a "vehicle v strutcture" accident again... You should really get your council to make your roads safer...
@EricWhiteTheGamer
@EricWhiteTheGamer 3 жыл бұрын
Every vlog is an MVA vs structure which has to out take medical, and I agree they do, or if you watched the Q and A video when they talked about it... they need to just set up guard rails even in residential zones that you hit it you don’t damage the car and it roles you back into the street, they make them just cost a lot of money, plus they cover a ton of different areas, the city of Littleton, Unincorporated Douglas County, Greenwood Village, and a few other areas. So it’s multiple councils they need to talk to about it.
