Photo upload user here. I loved it even if it wasn’t the best. Because it was easy. I just wanted it as a backup in case my phone got messed up. I checked to make sure it was synced every couple weeks and 90% of the time it was. I loved that feature.

Photo upload is one of the reasons I went with Plex. It was always buggy and they never really fully supported it but they sure advertised it as a feature.

I miss photo upload, specialty now that Google Photos is no longer letting users have unlimited storage at limited resolution. Which is why I am now looking into other self host solutions.

I use nextcloud, it has really good stuff going on. And tons of extra stuff you can put in it. I mean tons. Like an obscene amount of plug-ins lol.

Second the NextCloud recommendation! Our family (extended, as well) uses an app called PhotoSync (iOS/Android) to track and automatically upload to NextCloud through WebDAV from our phones. Then, point a Plex photo library to that NextCloud location. Works like a charm, and allows access to all of our photos from either Plex or NextCloud

My family all used the camera upload. It would change the name and made it easy for distant family to just login to plex and see all the photos we have taken of the kids. I really miss this feature!

For me, I have a playlist called "To Watch" that has about a dozen movies that I want to watch, and I generally to to only watch from this playlist, to help minimize movies getting forgotten about for months or years. I also keep this playlist synced to my phone in case I wanna watch while away from home. Using a USB-C hub with HDMI output, it pretty much vital when at a hotel. You get to watch high quality 1080p movies without needing to worry about bandwidth. Headphones that intercept the audio through HDMI as it goes to the TV are also amazing.

One feature that was taken away that I thought was awesome was Lyric integration for songs. This also ties into Plug-Ins with a Karaoke feature for parties etc... Plug-Ins were awesome, I'd love to see that return.

Not sure if this made a return or became a plex pass only feature. I had seen it before but didn't use it much because I didn't keep my music in Plex until 2022. I had always been ripping my music and keeping it in OneDrive back in the day when Xbox Muxic (Microsoft's Groove Music as it was known a little over a decade ago) would stream from OneDrive. When they killed OneDrive streaming and gave limited access to your music purchases through thr app I got the music I bought from them into one drive but started using traditional music streaming finally settling on Spotify. In 2021 I realized I had been listening to the same musicians more and more and some of my favorite all time albums weren't always there so I got those from OneDrive to play locally. Then I tried them in plex and noticed the lyric feature but didn't use it much. I eventually decided to cancel Spotify and get all my music from OneDrive (seeing PlexAmp was enough) and get a plex pass. I see the feature all the time now although not all songs have the lyrics synced with the audio.

@@mrwright1221 I'd say discoverability might be the issue here. I use Plexamp on my phone, Plex desktop app, occasionally the web app, and Plex for Xbox on my Series X. On the full Plex app it's easy to discover when playing music because a button with a musical note is present close to the playlist button. In Plexamp, click the 3 dots menu; this will show you various options with the second being "Show lyrics". This isn't available for every song, and when it is, not all songs are auto timed. I've noticed songs that say "Chorus x3" aren't timed but those that don't include that meta information have the lyrics highlighted as they are needed. It is very much available just not easy to discover.

We use the heck out of the Photo display feature - we start music using PLEX and then we start a random slide show using the Photo app - we have over 24,000 photos and growing every day as I scan photos from my mother-in-law and from our own photo albums. We spend hours with music playing mesmerized by the random display of photos on our TV. To lose this capability would be a huge impact to us.

@@robertt9342 the thing is that Plex has more and more started to focusing on their own media and etc, rather than focusing in the core. DVR, while being free, is just a joke. Reliability is not that good and no search based recording is just stupid.

@@FinlandApollo . “Focusing more and more on…” is not an argument. While imperfect there has been significant updates since it’s introduction. You are speaking on a fear of deprecation or downright removal. I too share this concern, but I would not go so far as to say the sky is falling. Either your fear has made you deluded or you are expressing a wilful ignorance of reality. Also, What do you mean no search based recording? I almost only setup my recordings through searches. This could definitely be improved.

Yep like having the default remote set to a low 720p so my server has to over work to down convert my good media for no reason when everyone has 4k tvs and broadband internet

Audiobook support, yes. I currently have my audiobooks as a music library and plex has been able to pick up on it, but i would like a dedicated library type and agent for audiobooks

Wish there was a “Favorite Scene” bookmark feature where you can bookmark your favorite scene in movies and quickly go back to that scene whenever you want.

I already manage my Audiobook library with plex. It is a little manual as there is no great metadata scraper, but if you create a Music Library, rename it to Audiobooks, and then add the audiobook files to the directory. The music scraper will identify many of the audiobooks... That said, it would be great to have improved functionality...

I used Camera Upload, but it was broken for a LONG time, like years. It's fine that they killed it, but it took them way too long with little to no communication.

@6:34 exactly I used plugins briefly and would have loved to have support for them again. Specifically when trying to use an M3U to tap into online media streams for music and video streams.

Windows media center, was FAR superior. I could play Blu-Ray and DVD iso. Record with multiple, tv capture cards, it had netflix, and too much stuff to list, and it was FREE!

One thing that was worse was the organization of media and interface. It also not as supported on other devices. Just PCs and Xbox. Still pretty cool. The DVR was pretty solid though.

I was very disappointed when they removed photo upload. Even with its faults and quirks, I still found it extremely useful for me and the family. Also, please Plex, sort out the DVR functionality; some smart TVs even provide a better offering now.

Back in 2015, there was a Chrome browser extension called Plex It! which was retired a few years ago. I installed it, but never really used it. It may have actually been a companion or integral part of the Watch Later feature that spoke of.

I definitely used the photo backup/photo sync. It was great and straight forward for my wife to figure out and it was quicker than some of the photo syncing tools I've used.

I really wanted photo upload to work. I didn't care about fringe features. For me it was a way to (hopefully) easily have a local backup of all my photos, safe from Google policy changes regarding "free" upload of images @ reduced quality. Jason. Could you do a video on alternative to Plex Camera Upload?

RIP Plex Arcade. I use LaunchBox which isn't available on Apple TV but Plex Arcade came along and finally gave me the ability to play all my ROMs on any device. I would love to see Plex and Launchbox partner up since they both have such beautiful user interfaces

I used to use the Hue plugin. When I started a movie the lights switched off automatically. They would come up to half brightness if I paused so I could see what I was doing.

Watch later was great. When they first introduced it, most folks didn’t have streaming boxes with KZbin apps. It was also a nice way for parents to share videos to the family TV without giving their kids access to KZbin etc. you just hit the button extension on your browser or email the link and it shows up as a standalone video in the watch later playlist.

I use the watch list feature that currently exists right now though and I love thst. Even signed up for the beta Discover Together feature for my server.

I use TV Mode every time I'm at my couch, it is the default mode for my Plex. I only use the Plex Desktop interface for managing content.

The last Plex update discontinued the recognition of my Hauppauge for live tv. The Plex Nvidia Shield TV update produced errors where my content wouldn't play. I kept getting errors. I uninstalled updates on that and it worked. I wish I can go back before the update on the PC update.

Didn't use any of those features. However, I was still using Plex Home Theater (PHT) on my Win7 media computer until one of the recent Plex server updates killed it completely. Now I'm forced to use the smart-tv Plex app. Since I'm now cuttings cable TV it matters even less.

The biggest road block now is that new comers are now not able to rip their blue rays to create a plex library. The formerly "friendly" drives now have updated firmware and flashing them back to the old firmware doesn't seem to do the trick. If there isn't a work around then its back to netflix :(

what i want, is external audio sources! kodi is able to take external audio from movies and play it back in sync with the movie. this is great for other languages or commentaries without having to mux or have duplicate video files just for 1 audio track.

Yeah I really miss them too :( Plex are never going to implement some features because it just doesn't get enough demand for them, but plugins gave us users a way of creating them ourselves. They could have used it to see what was really popular and add official integration themselves too.

Thanks for this feature update. I found PLEX forums useless for feedback. Current issue is recent CLIENT update to live TV channel guide. ISSUES! If you have a cable provider and use a cable card you have 400+ channels, and they removed channel numbers from the guide. Can you remember the ICONS FOR 400+ channels???

Photo upload, was one of the reasons I used Plex. It was amazing because the family took Their own photos on their phones and it ultimately ended up accessible by everyone in the family. Avoided sending your photo to a cloud service and allows me to insure photo preservation on my own raid. Now I’m sitting with a lifetime Plex pass and I barely use the app any more.

Plex photos freaked me out when I set up my Western Digital NAS and all my photos on my phone appeared in the Plex. UGH I am glad it is gone but the photos are still there.

i only use the PLEX DVR record features for my local antenna channels. I use a browser so dont need apps, i never use the cloud for anything - I want my own control of my video data, I too never used Watch Later, and I didnt use that photo feature. Not sure what player I use since I am viewing my programs through the browser.

I can’t say how awesome Plex is. The graphic interface is phenomenal. I can share all my movies and music anywhere I am in any place.I have a laptop under my bed with a 4 TB External Dr., Velcro to the lid. It works perfect and I can get to it from anywhere. Thank you Plex

I'd like integration with a live TV service, like Sling, that allows local recording of the programs. I'd like to be able to record shows and keep as many and for as long as I have local available storage space to do so. Also, if at some point in the future I decide I don't want the service any more, I'd still have access to my recordings. And, if they'd partner up with Sling, then maybe the Plex content would be able to show up in the Sling app.

Camera upload would be great specially after google photos doesn't provide unlimited storage. Also I didn't know there was a watch later bookmark since I haven't been using Plex for very long but some of my users have asked if there is such feature so it seems that people are kind of interested.

Plex plug in user from 2013ish till they stopped in 2018. Was extremely sad for me but I’ve managed
