I'd look for the best condition Camry my budget would allow. They're a good benchmark for quality. They're generally very reliable, even if the styling and features are a bit dated, but if I only had $3000 to spend on a car that I needed to get me back and forth to work every day, I'd go look for a Camry or Civic. I love the fun, sporty cars, but not as my sole transportation. For that, I want something that's basically bulletproof mechanically.

If you're going used, go look for Scions- iM, xD, xB- reliable as hell due to Toyota brand. Scions were discontinued so you can probably buy a used one at a good price. If you want new, buy Toyota Corolla, Toyota iA or Toyota Yaris. If you need room, go for the Toyota RAV 4 or Highlander.

I come from a GM family and have owned 6 GM vehicles myself. What made me run from them was the Cruze. I purchased the 2016 Cruze LT brand new. From the very beginning, the vehicle would jerk forward constantly while at a red light as if I was on the gas. After 5 visits to the dealer with them finding nothing wrong, a mechanic came out from the shop who wasn’t even working on my car and told me that he has the same exact car with the same issue. He said that he has been trying to fix the issue in his own car and he couldn’t figure it out. When he would ask within the company about the issue, he basically got the feedback that GM decided that it would cost too much to look into the issue so they were just ignoring it. Seems like a pretty unsafe issue to just ignore! The actual solution I was given was that when the car would try to go forward when I was stopped at a light with my foot on the brake, I was told to put the car in neutral. After giving up on that issue, the next thing to happen was my water pump went out at 17,000 miles. Thankfully that was covered under warranty. At around 37,000 miles, i was driving right by the Chevy dealer when the engine went haywire and started throwing lights up on the dash. Since I was right by the dealer, I was able to coast right to their lot and park. The service department told me that the intake manifold separated from the motor and there was the potential for debris being in the motor. I was told that none of the repair would be covered under warranty. That seemed ridiculous to me so I contacted corporate which got me absolutely nowhere. I was thrown into a revolving door of transfers and no one returning my messages. Email didn’t do a thing either. I asked the service manager what the absolute least could be done to get the check engine light off and he quoted me $270 after continually telling me that there really was thousands of dollars of work that should be done to make sure the motor wasn’t compromised. I laughed at him and explained that I only needed the car to go as far as the Honda dealership down the street because I was done with GM. I ended up buying a used Honda Accord which has turned out to be a MUCH better car than any Chevy I’ve ever owned. I also took Scotty’s advice from the best used cars to buy video and got my wife a 2011 Toyota Camry. I am NEVER going back to American made vehicles.

If you buy a new car you need to ditch it before the warranty runs out.
@agentx2505 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I think the duration any given car lasts comes down to about 5% luck, 25% driving style, 45% maintenance routine, and 25% manufacturer quality. Literally everything is loaded to the intake with electronics these days, so that's not a good separator, and people tend to both drive their vehicles hard while also generally neglecting regular maintenance. I do agree that some tech is just bad, like the CVTs in newer Nissans or Hyundais rusting out for no apparent reason. At the same time, however, Toyota and Honda don't really make large cars, so if that's what you're in the market for you're kind of stuck. That said, car sales are down across the board because people are buying more SUVs and trucks. Out of the 5 post 2000 model year cars my family members have had (1 Dodge, 1 Hyundai, 3 Nissans) only the Dodge went ~230,000 miles before it needed serious work (engine and later a tranny). The Hyundai started rusting out after 6 years, and all 3 Nissans had either transmission, engine, or suspension problems within 4 years of their release. If I was going to buy a pickup I'd probably go with a Toyota, but I don't expect to ever buy a Hyundai or Nissan and don't recommend them. I currently own a 2018 300 limited and @ ~38k miles I don't have any complaints yet, and short of getting hit I don't really expect that to change.

So? He was talking about quality, recalls are at the very least an attempt to make good of that which was done wrong. Even if people had to push them to do it. From what I gathered he was talking about stocks and general build quality. Both of which can only be measured through prolonged observation. It's not that recalls dont matter, but if they're not threatening a companies developement then it is irrelevant to what the rest of the video looked at when he was making his choices.

If only Mercedes used Toyota electronics I bet they’d be much more reliable. I’ve worked on a lot of Mercedes in the past and I agree their engines and transmissions are pretty well built but it’s mainly the electronics that kill these cars prematurely.

But their high ranking and low problem "rate" is undeniable, as to pecking order. Also, you will most certainly get a much, much higher "will-buy-again" vote ranking of Toyota owners than (say) Audi owners. As to unintended acceleraton.....here's one to chew on..... EVERY car made has brakes MORE POWERFUL than the installed engine, even for the infamous 80's unintended acceleration scandal for Audi. No way a car can get so out of control such that you can't stop it with the brakes. If brakes were listed as "horsepower" equivalent, they would be rated at 2000 HP so.

it's not insane, but the market's statement on the car's quality. be careful shopping for cars that lose value precipitously. also, on a side note, be very cautious buying a "recently owned" "one owner" bmw or mercedes. Subaru with a manual transmission I mean. The CVTs are junk!

Telling Fat to Fork Itself Toyota has some bad apples mixed in. Some of piston rings they used in 2010-2011 clog up and cause the cylinders to wear and they burn oil like crazy. The majority of the cars the sell are very reliable. It pays to do your research and never ever buy the first model year of car. Year 3-6 is ideal.
