@@ad356 Well, held in the context of my statement which is reliable transportation, built LS blocks are hardly the poster child of that. How much power do you want vs how long do you want it to last? It's a big trade-off. Of course I've heard of the LS. It's the most boring swap imaginable because it's been done to death. Your counterpoints are valid though.

So, leasing one will cost you approximately half the cost of a comparable USED one, and you'll pay nothing for repairs. That must explain how and why they're so common here. Yeah, I think the duration any given car lasts comes down to about 5% luck, 25% driving style, 45% maintenance routine, and 25% manufacturer quality. Literally everything is loaded to the intake with electronics these days, so that's not a good separator, and people tend to both drive their vehicles hard while also generally neglecting regular maintenance. I do agree that some tech is just bad, like the CVTs in newer Nissans or Hyundais rusting out for no apparent reason. At the same time, however, Toyota and Honda don't really make large cars, so if that's what you're in the market for you're kind of stuck. That said, car sales are down across the board because people are buying more SUVs and trucks. Out of the 5 post 2000 model year cars my family members have had (1 Dodge, 1 Hyundai, 3 Nissans) only the Dodge went ~230,000 miles before it needed serious work (engine and later a tranny). The Hyundai started rusting out after 6 years, and all 3 Nissans had either transmission, engine, or suspension problems within 4 years of their release. If I was going to buy a pickup I'd probably go with a Toyota, but I don't expect to ever buy a Hyundai or Nissan and don't recommend them. I currently own a 2018 300 limited and @ ~38k miles I don't have any complaints yet, and short of getting hit I don't really expect that to change.

That’s hilarious! I’ve got a 2005 and since it was paid off in 2015 it seems everything went sideways. Feels like I’m paying for the car twice with all the pesky stuff that keeps happening. In the last five months I’ve already spent $3000 if not more on work. Replaced thermostat after light kept coming on, then when I got AC fixed light came back on and I was told by dealership that I need $6300 in repairs including a new radiator. Got radiator replaced two weeks ago and then find that, after my oil change, the antifreeze reservoir is bone dry unbeknownst to me. Now I’m trying to figure out where leak is coming from. In the meantime in order to pass inspection last week I had to replace tire rods, rotors and pads😩😩😩😳😳😳. I feel cheated because all the money put into it could have gone towards another used car purchase. It’s my sole transportation but if it does, what would I even be able to sell or for in order to find a way to recoup some of my losses??🤔

But their high ranking and low problem "rate" is undeniable, as to pecking order. Also, you will most certainly get a much, much higher "will-buy-again" vote ranking of Toyota owners than (say) Audi owners. As to unintended acceleraton.....here's one to chew on..... EVERY car made has brakes MORE POWERFUL than the installed engine, even for the infamous 80's unintended acceleration scandal for Audi. No way a car can get so out of control such that you can't stop it with the brakes. If brakes were listed as "horsepower" equivalent, they would be rated at 2000 HP so.

True! I sold Toyota from 2003-2004. And we used to get Camrys coming in with transmission failures about once a week. And other models of their cars came in a lot more for warranty work that I thought possible for legendary Toyota. Honestly the best modern car I ever sold was Subaru. Subaru with a manual transmission I mean. The CVTs are junk!

Telling Fat to Fork Itself Toyota has some bad apples mixed in. Some of piston rings they used in 2010-2011 clog up and cause the cylinders to wear and they burn oil like crazy. The majority of the cars the sell are very reliable. It pays to do your research and never ever buy the first model year of car. Year 3-6 is ideal.

These companies know EXACTLY what they're doing. Watch their advertisements. They're selling an image, a lifestyle, not a car. Most folks sell/trade after 3yrs (avg 41K miles, just past most warranties). As long as they last through the warranty period, they're good (both the owner and seller). Car companies could care less about the second owner. "Ranked (blah, blah) for INITIAL quality, by JD Powers and Associates."

Honda F20C highest hp per liter naturally aspirated piston engine for over a decade until the Ferrari 458 came out, even then it was only just barely broken, also the K20 engine continues to win Pikes Peak every other year. I think it even won this year. Toyota is basically almost the same way, 2JZGTE still has the fastest 1/4 mile import time. The MK4 Supra had the shortest braking distance out of any production car for 12 years until the Porsche carrera GT came out, it was also one of the highest for slalom and skidpad. Hell even newer Toyotas who tf competes against the Mark X GRMN? Hmmm? Toyota and Honda throughout history have always been the best all around.
