My biggest obstacle is always my perfectionism. Even after falling in love with the humble ballpoint pen years ago, I always get caught up in details and getting everything right the first time even though I'm trying to draw for myself. I've learned a lot watching your vids and Stephen Travers' channel! I'm learning to relax a bit and enjoy sketching again and I know I still have a long way to go. A better mindset makes a big difference for me. I'm hopeful that by enjoying pen and ink sketching, it can help my mind and my heart finally listen to each other instead of constant clashing lol. Thank you for sharing your wisdom and experience!

Thanks for sharing Tyler! That is such a good point🙌🏼. Our mindset/perfectionism is one of the biggest problems. I think all artists can fall into that trap of having an idealised version of your art and then getting frustrated when it doesn't work out. (Happens to me constantly! 😊). Thanks for watching and all the best👍🏼

Thanks Scottie great tutorial. I mostly struggle with sitting figures as well as hands and feet.

I struggle with proportions a lot, and sometimes I can't get my characters to fit on the page. Either they have no feet, or their arms spread off the page. I'll pay special attention to my proportions before I delve into fleshing out the body. I should also slow down. I get quite impatient with my sketches sometimes!

Thanks for sharing PNC! Sometimes I count out 8 heads down on the page to see if my figure will fit. I'm always surprised how small the head has to be!😂

Great video, my challenge is always with getting the head size correct and facial features so that the figure is in proportion for the rest of the sketch

Great tutorial..proportion is the ultimate thing in any kind of drawing I believe..When you know the proportion, only you can dare to break it, and only it will still look rhythmic and balanced.. I would like to request you to give a tutorial on drawing from life, especially for people who are moving continuously in a train station, bus stoppage, marketplace etc. how to draw fast without much thinking about beauty and exactness of life, but to catch the essence of gestures, emotions..

I feel like I struggle a lot with the line work (scribbly, insecure lines) and with my arch enemy which is drawing faces. Your tutorials have helped a lot, I hope I get better with enough practice 😊

You will Debs! 🙌🏼 Definitely took me a lot of practice to get those proportions into my mind as I sketch. Same with line work too. All the best and keep up the great work🤗

Faces and proportions are deffo something I struggle with. I’m at home with landscapes and buildings but really have a hard time with people. I’m spending this year practicing to hopefully get better at sketching people

Thanks for sharing Wendy. I have an older video on sketching people sitting if you'd like to check it out: kzbin.info/www/bejne/a6TPg5uKicyWr5o It is really challenging when the knee to coming toward the viewer though so it needs a bit of educational guessing I find!

One issue I encounter is matching the eye direction of a figure that I am sketching. I can do an otherwise pleasing sketch, but on my sketch the person is looking in a different place!
